I see a lot of older people commenting in this thread, I'm assuming age based on all the critique's they are throwing around, condoning violence and hitting children or young adults as a means of letting them know about the old days.
Guess what. The old days are exactly that, gone, the past.
Did I grow up in Generation Grand Theft Auto? Nope, I'm 30, just barely missed it, but my generation as well was bombared with new technologies and ever more present marketing techniques by savvy companies promoting instant gratification through food, sex, and drugs.
Does that mean I get to sit on my high horse and watch the poor kids these days go through a type of mental cluster fuck I couldn't imagine?
You have the desensitization that's caused by not having personal social contact between peers, so places like facebook become breeding grounds for anynomous attacks and vicious rumors.
Remember the mother in the south that created a fake profile, befriended her daughters 12 year old neighbor, then drove that poor girl to suicide?
How about the kid in Rutgers that was having sex when his homophobic roomate filmed him and live streamed it across the internet?
You didn't have to deal with today's technologies and all the bullshit that has caught up with it.
What have we been fighting about since Roe Vs Wade in this country? Yes, its a woman's rights issue, but I see things a bit deeper than that.
Technology is moving faster than society can handle it, and our morals and values are still very much unclear, like the abortion debate.
How about stem cells?
Cloning people?
Shit, how about just vaccines, don't a large group of people believe it causes autism?
I rest my case. Stop judging these kids, you didn't have to grow up in this crazy society they do now, where the price for a college education means you have to sacrifice your financial security for ten years with no guarantee of a future.
The generation that was essentially ass raped for it's wealth.
The generation that needs understanding and guidance more than ever.
That being said, I'm glad I'm not part of it. whew!
