what killer vertical skills...thanks for sharing..dj

Thanks for comin thru DJXX

I've never been a "vert" guy ..... but your room has me thinking
the only thing that would worry me would be the heat from bare bulbs .

one thing i noticed too .... is no catch trays for runoff , are you just feeding enough to saturate the soil with NO runoff ??? i'm a coco guy , so i'm of the mind you need runoff . but i guess that ain't so in soils .

The vert thing isn't for everybody. But it works well for my room. I have a couple of Adjust a wing reflectors that I use when I'm veg'n with my 400. The canopy is about the same temps with 2 bare bulb 400's as it is with the 1 400 under the reflector. Mainly cuz the air gets trapped in my small space. The reflector is only a few inches smaller than the width of my room so it acts like a ceiling. I use a fan to blow the air away from the bulb, but it just shoots the hot air around the room.
With the bare bulbs and the fans lightly blowing up from underneath, the warm air rises up and eventually out the exhaust.

Also, the light mover prevents the plants from getting burnt even tho they get closer to the bulbs than recommended for 600's. They are only stationary for about :10 seconds before they are on the move again. Also the dimmable ballasts help when the warm weather rolls in.

As far as the beds go...there is a shower liner on the floor of the room to catch any spills, runoff, etc... The beds are raised up 1/2" off the floor so they don't sit in any water that may accumulate. So far, I have not seen any runoff, even after pouring 10 gallons of water in there...which is fine with me. No runoff necessary. I'm planning on frequent light watering rather than soak, dry, soak dry....seems to work for blumats.

Nice soil beds Marlo. I also grow organically but am using large rectangular fabric pots. they are marketed for growing potatoes. I'm guessing your burlap breathes a bit better though.

Thanks Buddle. The burlap is working fine so far. Its thinner than I expected, but no soil has peeked thru. Guess its also better for air exchange. I have heard the burlap degrades over time, so it will probably get replaced next grow. No biggie. It came in a roll of about 36' for $13.

You played a big part in my inspiration to go vert and its nice to see you back in action. Great looking setup, love the beds idea.

GG4 looks very nice indeed. Id love to try some one day but I have not seen or heard of her or cookies etc on this side of the border as of yet. Maybe I will get to try some at one of the cups this year. I hope to make the trip down for one.

Best of luck and I look forward to seeing that space overflowing with GG buds before long.

a few blumats in there would be perfect dude !!! especially if your only running water through them . a patio kit would be more than enough for both beds .

Your a mad man Marlo. I love it. I'm pulling up a chair & a bong.

Having shut down my little grow some time back for security issue. I'm living vicariously through you guys. Having to buy weed sucks. Lol, I even quit entirely for a while. Turns out I miss growing more than smoking. So I'm counting on you to get me through these tough times until I can enjoy the hobby again.

Btw, I'm convinced. Some of the brightest, most innovative people in the world are growing weed these days.

Any recommended reading about the soil amendment mix being used? I'd like to try it, but not certain where or how. I've done hydro & soil/soiless. The "water only" concept has much appeal. Is well water with 240ppm tds acceptable, or RO only? Looking at the options.

Hope your grow goes well Marlo!

Tuning back into this one. Glad to see you up and back at it, man! Love watching the guys that inspired me to go vert rock it again. Marlo bout to blow the glue up

Hey Bmac. Thanks for the kind words. I've been hangin out in ya thread lately too. Hopefully you are blessed with a room full of buds soon too!

I have about 20 blumats sittin in a drawer somewhere. I think about using them, but there's something about the quality time with the plants that comes with hand watering that I really like. I know they work really well, but it takes some of the fun out of growing for me. Not to mention, I hate having to set em up and get them dialed in..... Maybe I'll think about using em again before flower starts

Hey One2Lurk. I've been buying bud for the past few months too...and it fuckin sucks! I hate to sound like a pot snob, but damn, people are selling some shitty ass weed nowadays. I've been forced to roll 1gram blunts, which is unheard of! Most of it is low potency flavorless weed. I'll be happier when I have jars full of glue to stick my nose into.

As far as organics go, the best place to start is the Organics for beginners thread. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=53792
That whole forum is packed with info. I also used info from other threads...such as this one from Dank Frank.. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=258168

I can't say much about the tap water issue. My tap water sucks, so I use strickly R/O.

Wsup SmokinErb, havent seen you around in a while. I hope all is well with you bro. I'm happy as hell to have my room running again!

Ahoy Marlo! Sorry to hear about buying bud - haven't had to in a long time and I can only imagine the perils.

Out of curiosity how much do your two 600s yield you - or say GPW?

I also run 2 600s but horizontal and want to see whats up with the vert and you have very similar equipment so I was curious.

I haven't calculated my GPW from the last few grows but this next one i'll be back with it to compare and learn!

thx

Heres to hoping for a hardy stretch and a heavy harvest. Your room is so clean...Definately a model for the rest of us. I'll be on top of my bucket, on top of Jnugg, on top of his bucket.

Hey Marlo, just came back to see what was up with your GG4 grow. another really cool idea to use the beds to maximize root growth in your space.

I asked on one of these threads if the NSPB soil amendment was currently available. i've lost track of the message but i'm pretty sure it was nspb or maybe it was dank.frank, but one of them suggested a similar product by a company in Washington. i was just starting out with a small grow so just i ordered one bag of the mix and some myco. wasn't expecting it to weight that much!!

i edited this to take out the company's name. Dank.Frank has offered a lot of help along these lines in this and other threads and may be developing a product, so i don't want to deter from that.

at any rate, something to think of if you're running low on NSPB and don't want to buy all the different ingredients and end up with the partially used containers sitting in your cupboard for a year or so.

thx for sharing all these great innovations in your grow journal.

I needed to restock some bulk supplies and figured I'd support a community member via the purchase - which lead to about a 2 hour phone call and some discussion about what I was working on and I shared some details and information - and about three weeks later the KIS mix was "born".

So yeah, I have suggested it to a few people who were asking me about the availability of the NSPB...seeing as they decided to sort of beat me to the punch line having more resources at their disposal.

I can't complain - it was a great idea, after all. ;)

I can't even really say to be honest. I haven't weighed a crop in a long time. Mainly bcus I wasn't expecting anything crazy.
This is my 1st monocrop and also my 1st time using beds, so I'll be interested in seeing what the outcome will be.

Wsup Y4P. Been a while.
I'm hoping she does stretch. It's only the 1st week of flower, but I'm having doubts that she'll make it to the top of the screen. I just raised my lights up again today to try and help her up there. I'm loving the thick branches she's putting out tho. There's so many of them, I want the extra stretch so I can spread em out and give em some space.

Dabs! Pull up a chair, stay a while.
Your room is nuts bro. I'd want something like that if I had the space. Glad its working for you too bro.
And yea, its a beautiful sight when they start creepin up the wall!

Hey Marlo, just came back to see what was up with your GG4 grow. another really cool idea to use the beds to maximize root growth in your space.

Its chuggin along... probably could use an update.

My glues are looking happy as hell. They are all officially little bushes now, but that's pretty much inevitable with this strain.
GG4 grows sideways quite a bit which is something I'm keeping an eye on. there's gonna be a good amount of overlap on a few plants...so I'm probably gonna do some heavy pruning in these areas.
She is making some very thick healthy branches all over the place, so I'm gonna make sure to remove most if not all of the thinner branches on the inside and in the overlapping areas. Gotta give the big branches all the space they need to perform.

I haven't removed many fans yet. Just a few here and there...

Gonna take some pics soon.

I have to echo what a lot of other people have already said. Good to see this thread going again! I've never grown this particular way of vertical but this thread was definitely one of the prominent ones that encouraged me to ditch the hoods originally. Do it up proper!
