Damn homie we makin topcorn in here ?? You're gonna have to give the 600s a run, on the movers sounds promising... Left stationary, the bulbs might build up too much heat on your buds.

Stay peacin D.Don !!

Dual 600's would be BADASS Marlo!!

I noticed a small increase in heat from 400W to 600W, but never found the difference to be that much. Nothing like a 400W to 1000W. Always ran air-cooled, so that could be a large factor. Bud density & penetration depth is noticeably better w/600W though.

Have you considered using cool tubes to beat the heat? I'd bet two clear cool tubes and a 400+ cfm inline fan, exhausted, would solve your problems.

......... ya got em hung yet marlo? no way you put em on the shelf after you got em home.

Haha...they did sit for a cpl days, lol. It was like summer here for the past few days, so I didn't even want to try using the 6's. They're hung now, doin their thing. Its about 8 or 9 degrees warmer in there, which isn't much of a problem as the ambient temps will be dropping soon. But I'm definitely gonna have to freak the training in front of the bulbs to keep the plants pulled back.

These ballasts are also a few degrees warmer than my 400 mags. After being on for several hours, they're pretty warm. I can leave my hand on it for a few secs, but not too long. Much like the bottom of my laptop.

^^^^ my wife still laughs her ass off every time i bring anything new home from the grow store ....... she still does not really "get" why a grown man could be so excited about a new bulb or a light mover, but she at least understands when a kid gets a new toy it is gonna get played with ...... NOW!

does dimming the ballasts do much temperature wise? i don't own anything dimmable ....yet

Funny how isolated and specific our purchases can become. My one ex used to go shopping with me, chip in, and then....complain about expansion. It's funny now...used to drive me NUTS at the time. I mean, what was the point...to look at it and say how shiny??! Hehehe...one day one of these ladies will get it! LMAO!

Odd about the heat...should be cool to the touch, or at least every digi I have seen/used was... I've not seen/used that brand though. How's the warranty?

very nice Marlo :respect:
I've been running one of those same 600w phantoms (made by hydrofarm) in my mini-room for about six months, and now have another going on a light mover in a different room. They've been great to me so far, although I have not noticed them being quite as warm as you say. anyway, you can also run them at 75%, which should be around 450w of light, and will keep room temps down if the ambient temp is high. works for me. :dance013:

This is my 1st experience with any e-ballast. Warranty is 5 years, not worried about that part. Definitely gonna find out if this is normal...

Thats interesting. Are you running 240v or 120v? Maybe I'm just a punk and can't keep my hand on the ballast's as long as you guys :). I was kinda expecting them to be warmer than my 4oo's... But I have no experience with 6's or digi ballasts to compare it to. I'm gonna call the store today and ask if this is common. They both feel equally as warm.

I hear yall on using the dimmer, but that defeats the purpose of why I upgraded, right? The ballast's seem to be working fine, and the plants don't look like the wattage/heat increase is bothering them. I'm gonna get some new pics in a few....

mar, those 600 e ballast should be at least cool enough to touch and hold your hand on. checked mine last night after reading your thread. im running my 600 off an e balast and it is warm/semi hot, but nothing that will burn or even leave a mark on you. the 430 i'm running is an older mag balast and the 600 e ballast runs a litttle cooler then the mag. i finally have my fan dialed to speed to keep my temps 7-8 degrees above ambiant (took some adjusting with the fans and speeds, but all is gravy now). the ladies are responding well! was goning to flip last sat, but the cuts were a little behind because some issues to the mothers (that have since all rebounded). all cuts are back to full vigor with another batch in the ez just in case (all extras are given to friends anyway, so win for averyone).

Warm/semi hot is a good way to describe it. Not hot enough to burn and leave a mark, but definitely uncomfortable. I can get to a 6 count before I have to take my hand off. As I'm typing this, I can keep my hand under my mac for about 5 sec's before I can't take it anymore. Bout the same temperature.

My 4oo mags weren't this warm/hot, but not that much cooler either.

right on. the 400 mag i have is about 14-15 years old, so that could be why it runs a little warmer than newer mags. it was one of the first ballast i owned. looking back i always laugh at what we did with those 400 and 430's produced some really nice crops with the old school west coast genetics. can only imagine what we could of done with some 600's or 1000's.

Marlo - Awesome thread. I got one of my patients to switch to your WOW method and he loves it. Anyway i'm also running a phantom 600 and it doesn't get so warm I can't continuously hold my hand on it, but it is warm enough to be uncomfortable. However wired up for 220v it barely produces any heat at all. Not sure if you are able to use 220, but if heat becomes an issue that is a simple way to elminate some. Not sure if it is a concern, but all eballasts will last longer on 220v.

huh. you can only keep your hand on your mac for 5 seconds? hope you use a tray or a pillow or something lol. talk about fire crotch... anyway i could prob take a nap on my lumateks running at 600... if it was coffee i would prob nuke it for a few seconds... whatever that means.

ps ill take that pack if it dosent have a home now marlo lol
