I noticed a big difference in the plants in the past 2 days, mostly good :).

The first thing I noticed is the increased odor. Big time increase. I was several feet away from the growroom (door closed) and there was an obvious stench in the air. I was iffy on getting a new scrubber before.......DEFINITELY getting a new scrubber.

2nd thing I noticed was the increased size on my DSD's. They are absolutely loving life right now. Really excited to see how they turn out. The most I've gotten off of her was 3 zips in front of a 4oo.

Now not everything can be good news....The last thing I noticed changing in the past few days is the color of some of the fan leaves in the room. They are a shade or 2 lighter than I'd like em to be. It's not anything excessive, but its noticeable. Much too early imo. Looks like I need to make this mix a bit hotter for the next run. Grow and learn, right?

I'm trying to find some solutions to get this under control soon. I don't want these girls going yellow on me just yet. Thinkin about a top dressing, or maybe a tea....both of which I've never done.

you'll be fine either way mar. i always used teas, bud some bros topdress and both works for us. topcoat may be a little easier depending on what your useing but may take a little longer than a tea (maybe do both, water with tea, then topcoat?). i use make out teas with womens stockings full of guano and a little maxicrop mixed in. we just follow the recomendations on the guano box/bag and never had issues. im sure one of the pure organic guys can give you a great mix/method, but if not try the tea and you'll be good.

Thanks Headie.

So you put some guano in a hose and boil it? Or bubble it?
How much..and for how long?

I generally go about 1 TBSP/gal Indonesian guano in a tea, .. Toss in with some EWC, MaxiCrop, and molasses, brew for 20-24 hrs, ..

I also top-dress with with the Indonesian guano every couple weeks in flower.. Just my :2cents:

Beautiful work here [and everywhere prior] Marlo :tiphat:

yep, i would boil (no need to actually boil, warm/hot water is what i used) the water and let it cool for a bit then put the stocking in (always went by directions of the brand)and mix it around a bit then let it sit. i've read about people putting right into the water and bubbling over night, but i have no experience with that method so i cant give advice, though i think that way may better that the hot water method. if it's to hot, it will kill any microbes in the brew, but i never thought of that when i was running pure organics. the tea always had a nice rich smell to it after it sat over night and it always did what it was suppose to do.

Thanks for the input Silver. I'm reading some stickies in the Organic soil forum and its obvious to me this isn't some simple shit.

Is that considered an ACT? Or is there more to it?

It's funny - I've found it to be quite the opposite. To me, it IS [fairly] simple! :)

I'm no enthusiast, but I do reckon that's an ACT. I've seen some folks build fancy contraptions to bubble their tea (heady blunts has a thread about a nice DIY one he did), but my stoner-simple technique has yet to fail me! 5 gallon bucket, no more'n 2 gallons of tea at a time (gets frothy!), big fat airstone in the bottom, hooked up to a big fat pump, .. Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!

Let me clarify my first statement - With my lay-person's understanding of organic gardening, and that lay-person's application, I've had fantastic success. (I'm no Phillthy, Verdant, etc..) My understanding is that in an organic grow, the plants take up nutes as/when they're available/needed. In my brain, that's opposed to the sort of "forced feeding" that comes to mind when I think "hydro."

Very simply put, I tend to think of my EWC as N, Indonesian guano as P, and MaxiCrop (kelp) as K. Throw in a little sugar (molasses), ..

I've found that even with my rudimentary understanding of the organic deal, I've not yet overfed, nor do I seem to have [drastically] UNDERfed. Actually, it's stoner-simple for me. :)

I see....

A bucket, some bubbles, and the right ingredients. EWC, Guano, and molasses.

I don't want to overdo it, bcus the girls look very happy. Just a lil pale early in the game. I'm thinking thats a nitrogen issue, which I dont need a whole lot of at this point. I don't want to turn this into a regular thing, because I wanted this grow to be as water only as possible.

Holla at me Dank.Frank, lemme know what you think bro

this thread has finaly convinced me to try vertical growing when i set up my next growroom, i realy like the idea of using the walls as screens, and the ligtmover thing is just pure genius, its so damn simple, i love it!

about the leafs getting a bit pale, i always have a bottle of BioBizz fish mix incase i think the girls are getting paler than i want, its a good way to give the plants a fast acting boost of N without too much trouble, and its great for seedlings and young plants too (at a lower dose ofcourse)

EDIT:

You could top dress with some EWC for that yellowing - and I suppose that'd still be within the WoW guidelines, .. I mean, it's not LIQUID foods..

i guess that rulles out fish fertilizer, but also rules out teas :p

what was the rate of the NSPB if your thinking you need to make it a bit hotter next time MO?

1 bag of FFOF + 1.5 cu ft of pure COCO and 1 bag of NSPB.

I'm glad you've seen the light roach! Hopefully this style of growing is good to you...works great for me!

I actually looked at the Bio Bizz today, and EJ, and General Organics. But I really didn't want to go the bottled nute route. I don't want to add anything at all to be honest. I'd love to see the NSPB go the full way by itself. But my girls are talking to me and I have to give em what they're asking for :)
I feel better giving them some guano's in a tea as a quick booster.
I only need to keep the yellowing away for another 30 days or so. That way I can always keep em on a shelf and use em later. I've already started throwing away all my bottled nutes....not tryna start collecting em again, lol.

I was thinking that it is very possible that this mix is hot enough, but lacking in N, right? I have always fed extra N in flowering for the first 2-3 weeks because diesels tend to like it this way. ECSD is notorious for hoggin the nitrogen and Ca/Mg...so this could just be a byproduct of that. Every plant in the room has some ECSD in her.

I thought about that too. But from what I'm reading, the ACT is a faster acting method of feeding....and just better for the plants all the way around.

you dont think just making the mix a bit hotter in the first place will resolve this or do you think it may cause a prob as in it may burn them in the early stages.... do you use NSPB?

Any news on if this is ever going to hit europe?

I don't use NSPB. I grow in homemade soil with LOTS of compost and lightly amended with a cheap organic blend found almost everywhere, and in all reality it's all the same. Not knocking the product by any means...it's definitely a quality mix with some serious thought put into it. Great ingredients. Great stuff.

I'm a huge advocate for water-only organic mixes. IMO it's the best, most natural way to grow anything. When you're not bottle-feeding your plants from start to finish though, you need to be sure that they're not going to fill out the pot so early that they run out of nutrients. What we need to remember is that this is a living, breathing soil, complete with all sorts of archaea, bacteria, fungi, nematodes, etc, all maintaining pH, breaking down nutrients, living, dying, eating each other, and responding directly to plant needs. The larger their habitat, the better they will be able to perform these functions.

A properly mixed soil should be comfortable for plant roots from start to finish. This usually requires the soil to sit and "cook" so to speak for several weeks, while our microorganism friends establish themselves and begin breaking down the amendments. A mix that is amended too heavily, or not allowed to sit long enough will result in problems. Larger pots solve issues much better than trying to create a hotter mix will in my experience, while contributing to healthier, happier plants and bigger buds. Give a side-by-side a shot and I can guarantee the larger pots will outperform the hotter mix.

there lookin good marlo, impressed with the soil mix, really dident think it would last as long as it has, what is your feeling on the air pots ? worth the money ? are they that much better than reg pots ?

This is my 1st all water adventure, and 1st organic adventure, so I'm learning on the job. I am really happy with it so far as well, I just have to adjust things to fit my needs a bit better.
FYI... I did skip the cooking stage, which certainly didn't help. I won't make that mistake next run.

As far as the airpots go, I can't say enough good things about em. They are the shit! I like em much better than the 1 smart pot I ran last grow. Much better for my situation.
