Last time i was in the Dam, i dropped in on Grasshopper for a quickie on the way to the hotel. They wanted 20 Euros for a gram of Kali Mist, I got curious and bought a gram, the shit looked like it was cut early and it wasnt flushed properly at all.

Grasshopper, one of the first places you see when you exit the central station. Its a big place, they will rip you off!

anyone going to the grasshopper or bulldog coffeeshops needs their head examined

All though, you can have a great laugh at leidseplein with all the tourists, first time smokers (pukers) and the hot girls :)
But you'll have to bring your own weed :smoke:

if you did any research on the weed scene here in amsterdam you would know to stay away from those places and many more dealers of over priced tourist schwag.

You know, it was exactly for the purpose of warning people who are doing research before going to the Dam, that i mentioned my bad experience from the place.

I think you have missed the point of the thread if you mock the people who share their bad coffee shop experiences .. IN the crap coffeeshop thread..

.. see how that works?

Been visiting the Dam regularly since the 90's because of the atmosphere, not the weed. I grow my own.. My last trip was in April 2009, on that trip i really saw that the Dam had changed alot the last years. Its apparent that the commercial aspect has over shadowed the ideological force in the city. Where there before used to be small personalized shops with friendly staff, there is now bigger places with more unexperienced staff and coffeeshop chains thats operating more then one shop.

The next time I go to Holland, ill stay out of the Dam and rather go to one of the other cities in the country where they appreciate tourists.

Hi arcticsun,

spot on analysis.

as for staying out of the Dam, i'm not going to such an extreme but rather will focus on shops around Westerpark area (Rockers, Freedom, Capiteau, Republiek); Near South (Ibiza, Blue Sea, Warda 1, De Keeper); East(Happy People, Trefpunkt, N.Y., Eastwood); Deep South(DeKade, Goed Goed, Jabba, Topweazel, Happy Days); and Jordaan with oud West also.

yes, additionally, i too have two trips planned to other provinces and the usual Haarlem jaunt as well.

In trying to understand the situation from the shop's view or the budtender's: i imagine the job to be boring punctuated with terror of being ripped off.

another factor could be the pool of worker to choose from. i mean what employee, thinking of their career trajectory, would want "budtender" on their C.V.?

assuming that his flight was not related to the "seeds to States" issue do you have any hope of his "righting things" or did he just pretty much "burn bridges"?

Thanks for the good coffeeshop tips :)

none of these shops mentioned have i ever visited, therefore, please do not count my plan for an endorsement. i am planning a travelogue over at ACD and will comment fully on all my visited shops. over here i will stick to a summary probably and note the most outstanding and worst all IMVHO.

do yourself a favour and go for it ,,loads of nice towns to visit and beach resorts too ,zaandam and scheveningin(sp) both have fantastic beaches ,kijkduin is a great holiday park ,http://www.roompotparken.nl/vakantieparken/552430/kijkduinpark,,the hague is stunning ,rotterdam is awesome ,haarlem has a nice coffeshop scene and a great steak house ,get the train and just go for it :dance013:

Just remember that every other city than Amsterdam has a different tolerance to cannabis use. You use it at home or at the coffeeshop, not on the street, not in a park, not in a forest and not on the beach. In The Hague there is "zero-tolerance policy"... or in other words LifeTax.

Hey guys, ive been a little bit around Holland outside the dam. Ive been to zandvoort, haarlem and in Alkmaar actually. Im always discrete about my smoking, even in Amsterdam I try to not blow smoke in anyones faces.

Me and some friends took a random train out of Amsterdam once and ended up in Alkmaar, lovely town, looks much like the Dam with old stone buldings etc. There are fewer coffeeshops in Alkmaar then in the Dam, but we found a few, cant remember names anymore its been a while. We hung out at a camping place for some days because the weather was lovely, the camping place owner was cool with us smoking up copious amounts of weed aslong as we didnt stink up the place to the annoyance of other guests. We had a big grass field all to ourselves in the corner of the camping place, played football and had a great time in some great summer weather.

After some days we started missing some fantastic Chocolope we had bought at grey before we left, so we jetted back to the dam.

I remember it was harder to find coffeeshops outside of the Dam, it was smart of us to bring some with us from the Dam when we left there.

It was windy in zandvoort when we were there, they have a formula one track there, we found a spot on the beach from where we could watch some porche race going on for free by looking over the fence. There were loads of locals doing wind sports on the beach like kiting and wind buggying. I remember one of the local coffeeshops was called la paz, i think i remember having some widow for 6euros pr gram. The weed was ok, but not special. The beach promenade and the beach is beautiful on a good weather day, the water is very shallow far far out from shore. So you can walk like several hundred meters from shore and still just have water up to your waist. I imagine the swimming temperatures are great in the summer because its so shallow it heats up quickly. Ill definitively head out to the beach next time im in the Dam and its hot in the city, was just a 20 minute trainride if i recall through haarlem to zandvoort.

Nevil said he just won a court case with money and passports returned. he also plans to sue the government (false prosecution?). so maybe some light at the end of the tunnel.
