Acido Humico is excelent indeed my friend, its spcieal like anabolic steriod for roots sorta say ejjeje gets em going great, but should read recomended dose per container as all thats good can be over done some times. (Humus in a more broken down form I beleave is Acido Humico)

I make our family tortillas all the time, corn, some cheese I get fresh from the milk man (milk, cheese, with great bread freshly made, we get goat cheese and milk too now and then too...cow trafic and shit all over my car too) well these tortillas I learned how to make from my Nicaraguan mother and are very good indeed, jeje but hey man can't joan on some arepas now and then with some coffee in the after noon can imagine myself dunk'n it now... or as "pancakes" with fresh diced fruit and some maple syurp jeje damn i'm getting hungry.

Have a good one !

muddy, chaman, thanks for the humus info, fed them some liquid humus made in mexico called carbo-vit :D looks yummy :biglaugh:

what kind of arepas where you eating muddy? the ones prepared in caracas are really fat, too much dough imho... the ones in the andes are a lot thinner and can be made of corn or wheat :D
ok, i'll make arepas for you two sometime soon and post pics of them hehehe...

one love!

ok, here's some pictures of the various problems with the ladies:

strange bug that leaves white residous on leaves and tiny red dots of poop or eggs? plus leaves looking weird:

here's one of the cuttings i took from the last grow, doing well, exactly as the plant as i took it from, although facing the same problems

here's a view of all plants

there's some leaves burnt or dried, specially the tips. the smaller plants may be suffering from transplanting shock? sprouted them in pure vermiculite and then placed them in an organic soil mix without them having been rootbound yet.
um... i dunno what else... over-water? any help always appreciated.
much peace and love.

Spots like that have happend too me in rain seasons when dew condensates on the inside of my greenhouse, then the wind blows and the drops fall on my plants in a very light rian sorta way as the sun comes out the walls dry out then the plants last...but the lite drizel might have stained the leafs in hot spots if thats what they are called.

Adhids have been a problem but more of a mater of me not like'n them, the plants even in worst over infested states seemd to not care too much, but there are insects that can due harm indeed need to pin point if they attack only old leafs, or new, then if its from the bottom up or top down....realy observe the ambient they are in, how they act during the day and how and when these stains apear, then give us the info more properly to see if we can see about deficiency, watering, or palagas.

hey paz you are correct i was referring to the arepas in caracas. way too fat. i like the sound of a more pancake-like texture... chaman, if you learned to make tortillas in nicaragua then they're probably fatter than what i'm used to; i've never been to nicaragua but i know in guatemala they are thicker, quite good still, but i'm born and raised in los angeles, little mexico, so a nice thin wheat flour tortilla wrapped around beans and cheese is what i grew up eating, my first love you might say...

about your plants, paz: first, see if you can get a shot of the culprit, say maybe against a background of dark paper, so we can see it well. second, from your photos it's hard to tell, but it looks a lot like the fungus i've been dealing with down here in the south--take a look at the underside of the leaves and judge for yourself, if it's fungus it should be visible on both sides of the leaf, and also take notice of any bug larvae, like whitefly eggs, mites, aphids, as they seem to inhabit the leaves that have fungal infections, from what i've noticed. third, try to judge whether this is inhibiting growth or if it's just cosmetic: the fungus i've been dealing with (several diff species actually i think) do not do great harm to the plant--in fact i don't think they've affected my yield hardly at all. if that is the case, then i would stick to eliminating whatever symbiotic pests are hanging around the fungus, and then breed your shit over the next couple harvests and see if certain plants are more immune than others. make sure it's not environmental, ie what chaman said, maybe water is dripping on plants in a certain place, or maybe airflow is reduced closer to the walls, that sorta thing, but once you've taken that into account, start breeding with the plants that show the greatest resistance to the fungus. i had good luck down here with shiva shanti ii from sensi, which is mainly derived from a couple different afghanis. since the santa marta gold was already bred with afghani back in the past, perhaps you should try it out and see if the pests show up. also one final idea: since you're growing in pots, try sterilizing your soil. these pathogens may be coming into contact with the plants via the soil, and you can prevent that by cooking your soil in the oven at 200 or so for 5-10 minutes. that should kill everything, including good bacteria, but you can always repopulte them via compost tea.

hope that helps

Chaman, Muddy, thank you for taking the time to help out.
ok, i inspected the plants real well... i don't think it is fungus related, doesn't look like fungus really. plus, i really hope it ain't fungus!
the insects must be Aphids; i was not sure but then read some info on them and they come in different sizes, colours, shapes and flavours! yummy :biglaugh:
they act just like aphids for sure, they're in low populations now.

another thing i have not considered is the temperature variations around here... take today for example, in the early morning it was around 17 celsius, at midday it was 30! now it is 24... humidity varies a lot too... what Chaman says about burns may be possible, but not sure either... could it be some kind of nutrient deficiency? um... argh! i need to be more patient or i am gonna go nuts over this lol...
sorry about the quality of the pictures, my camera is cheap and goes out of focus with minimal movement, it is a pain to get a focused picture of insects and plants. but the insects are aphids. i used some type of organic white oil (or at least the dude who sold it to me told it was ok for organic grows). it is simply called 'horticultural white oil', a mild pesticide. used it once already, lets see what happens. 20cc per 1 liter of water. used it a bit less strong.

btw, here's some arepa pics i took today :D the two smaller ones are wheat ones and the yellow one is pure corn. plus a 'lil girlled cheese and yerba mate :D

one love.

man, i am trying to get rid of the aphids and the worste is whiteflies! i had not noticed them, at first i had assumed that they were baby aphids... i am kind of blind lol... anyway, these fucking whiteflies and aphids are gone wild... yesterday i did a good trim work and sprayed some straight up h2o2 (had been spraying insectiside oils, applied twice in two weeks), but it is not enough, today they're as if nothing had happened... so later today when the sun comes down i will wash the plants with a garden hose and soap. going to have to wait until monday to be able to buy a good misters to spray the plants properly too... been using a real shitty one which i think has not helped a lot.
peace!

glock, for sure, i will keep that present if this new treatment i am giving them does not seem to work. thank you. going to give it a few more days, the whiteflies have been reduced considerably by now, but the aphids keep on going.
now i am germinating 5 skunk no.1, two already came through the soil, but looking a bit sickly, one hasn´t been able to shed the seed's shell and the other has very thin cotyledons, lets see what happens with the rest of those beans :D
peace.

the over use of lime will raise the soil pH too high causing problems nutrient lock out problems/slow yellow growth/small leaves and weak plants that find it hard to resist and often are the first to become overrun with insect infestations.....to counteract this add some mild liquidfied organic ferts (homemade organic teas) adjust your water to high 5's ~ low 6's on the pH scale with an acid like vinegar ( I use a little 0-15-15 I have that is very acidic with high pH organic ferts teas), then water this in when the pot/plants requires it and they will green up and starting growing big leaves - guaranteed!

as advised above - use a fine spray of a liter or two of water with a couple of cigarette that have been soaked in there (soak the cigs in a cloth)..add a little soap too....fine spray the top and bottom of leaves when the sun has gone down,,,,,or better still, ask the local gardeners for help and they'll know what to spray!..you can't beat local knowledge and methods!

one thing is for sure, a tropical greenhouse can become overrun with insect infestations really quick....with experience you'll know at about the same time each year when to spray with what to prevent mites, aphids, etc from becoming established ...it is ten times harder to fight an established infestation than to prevent it..I grow in the tropics and suffer badly from spider mites,,,,,,but timing is everything,,,the very first sign of mites in early Summer are sprayed with a miticide and I won't see them for 12 months! if I let them get established, it becomes a horror movie

and you can grow indoor Dutchies in the tropics ..just rig a few 100 watt incandecent lights in the Temple and run them for 4 or 5 hours after dark each night from germination until they are a foot or two tall...switch off the lights and let them trigger into flowering with th enatural tropical photoperiod and you'll harvest a decent amount...these l;ittle Dutchies are also excellent for breeding with the local sats too..my little tropical garden is full of crosses of Dutch/landrace/hazes/sativas

gypsum is often used to break up clay soils and is acidic too

while you are starting your seedlings in pots I'd suggest you prepare the ground in the Temple..dig it up and add natural organic ferts ( just like the locals so it - so ask around!) ..in a month or two when the seedlings are ready to transplant into the ground the soil will be rich, full of worms and ideal for excellent healthly growth,.,,,start now by making organic teas which are as simple as adding several types of manures, composts, guanos ( whatever is available) chicken shit etc in an old stocking and soak in a bucket of water, give it a stir everytime you go near it...dilute x 10 or 20 x's, pH adjust to 6.4-ish and use ...use stronger if the plants need it!..start making a compost heap too....nothing beats homemade compost with occasional use of organic teas!

keep us informed .....and remember less is more!

hello ladies and gentlemen,

Thank you OGDread and Chamba for stopping by and for the help.

The bug problem is kind of under control; although still causing some troubles to the plants' leaves...
but the plants are growing though; they haven't begun to flowering yet though. germinated the last 6 seeds of a strain a friend sent me which he labelled as 'cali purple'. germed 2 skunk no.1. And in the soil of a couple bigger plants 5 new seedlings came to life out of no-where! it is going to be a bit difficult getting them out of there, they'll be damaged a bit but they may make it into cool plants, i hope so...
anyway, here's a few pics, excuse the quality but my camera is real crappy.

here's two pics of the general situation in there:

here's the 5 new seedlings that came out of nowhere :D

one of the clones i took in late march:

and the 6 'cali purple' and 2 skunk no.1 seedlings

that's about it for now, any questions, comments or criticism are all welcomed. thanks again everyone.
overgrow!
peace and light.

Hello 2buds, greetings and good health :)

September 1st:

things are doing ok in the temple, although the weather and time of year makes caring for the plants a busier job than at other times. many bugs to control, humidity issues etc..., but all is going well, all under control, the ladies all growing nicely.

one of the skunkno.1 already showed sex and it was male, so i got rid of it :D plus it was very small and young... so bye bye...

the bag seeds are growing nice, the biggest 4 plants, all cuttings of colombian bagseed, have started to flower, i am going to count sept. 1st as their first day of flowering, they have been rooted since april 1st. do your math, these ladies will be finished, dried and cured by around december!!! these take a while to flower.... phew... got some cali purples going too, these will finish sooner i think, as well as the remaining skunk no.1
yesterday i started to germinate 3 afropip red swazi beans, lets see what happens.

here are some general pics of today. doing the best i can with the camera and technical knowledge, excuse the mediocre quality pictures.

peace :joint:
