Is that perlite mulch?
I do use perlite in my soil mix, but the sun is reflecting on the soil in a way that makes it look like there is much more in it. It's only about 20% perlite, at most. Sometimes watering makes the perlite float to the top from first inch of soil. But in person, I think the red clay kinda has a sheen that is adding to the look in the photo.

Growing long flowering sativas indoors in the mid atlantic region of the US I found that temps made a huge difference in my setup.

Much better results if started to flower them in November/December. The grow room temps would drop down to the low 60's at night. Compared to 80 - 85 with the lights on.

I had 2 keepers, one went 14 weeks and the other 16 weeks to finish. The difference between harvesting in March vs August was very noticeable.

I played around with light cycles, MH, HPS, combined MH and HPS, supplemental/limited UVA and UVC.

The first run of Nevil's Haze purchased from Heaven's Stairway in 1999 was harvested in mid summer. I wasn't impressed. The clones harvested in mid winter much closer to what I expected.

LED lights help a lot, smaller containers help too. 10/14 light schedule to finish

Thanks friend, those things have been tried with varying degrees of success.

10/14 Light cycles usually left me with lower yields and quality. I would be able to go 12/12 for couple weeks then down to 11/13 to finish. However I would increment 15 minutes more dark over the next 4 weeks until I got to 11/13 and they would always finish at 14 and 16 weeks respectively.

For me it was temp differential. Keeping in mind I was indoor soil grower with no climate control in my room. So it's not a one size fits all solution.

I've also heard that from many cannabis aficionados I respect. Do you have any thoughts as to why the longest flowering plants would have the best high?

I'm in the far North and have been working on the opposite side of the cannabis spectrum with autoflowers. My dream is to bring the best of NLD to Autoflowers. The question is, can the high from an extremely long-flowing plant be brought down to a plant that finishes in 120 days from sprouting?
Your doing a similiar project to my friend rajas, looking for semi-auto long flowering sativa, hes building a hybrid tailored to this, the reason people say the longer flowering sativas are more complex is because they are, they have longer life cycles and put more energy into longer lasting terpenes, less volatile generally, and have more time for the existing terpenes to cook like a soup and transform into more complex ones, even some chemicals like caretenoidss responsible for color, when they break down contribute to certain terpenes producion Ionene for example. in order to find the plants your looking for fast onset to flowering with extended period you need a specific hormonal profile. High florigen, Low Auxins, Low Gibberalins, High cytokinins. The way to measure florigen without devices i came up with is to compare leaf measurements, use ratio from width and length, the faster the change from one fan leaf to next skinnier wise means the plant has higher florigen. for example a plant with 3:1 ratio first leaves that goes to 4:1 then 5:1 will have more florigen than a plant that goes from first leaf 3:1 then 3.5:1 then 4:1.

That's what I was getting at with my question. If certain cannabinoids/terpenes take longer to develop and therefore cannot be made in a shorter flowering plant.
I just made an Ace Malawi x Panama into an autoflower. Maybe next year, I will grow out the Malawi/Panama autos and some full-season plants and get them tested for terpenes to compare.
Thanks for your input :tiphat:
I think it takes skill that most people don't have to breed for the high alone, and put other traits a distant second in priority.
I hear you there. It's not just skill, but it's also hard to test lots of plants to decide which is "Best," and of course, what I find "Best" might not be the same as the next guy's "Best."

Once again, I call out VISC Burmese and ACE Bangi Haze.
I've heard good things about the Burmese. And one of my next projects is to make Aces
Bangi Haze x Congo into an autoflower.

Peace GG

For note: everything in this post is based on my feelings, and the feelings I experienced with said plant, not as proof as this was the best of the best; this is not a landrace, or "pure" plant, but a hybrid.. but this thread is about trip weed, and I would like to share my "trippiest" plant... it was a Haze19 x Skunk.. from Nirvana... yes, the Nirvana seedbank.. Dutch genetics (the hybrid)... out of everything I've ever smoked, grown, what have you... never had a high like her majesty... cartoon 2-d world, euphoric, bright, spider-inducing, aura producing antidepressant bordering on mild visuals, headrushes, damn near room spinning if imbibed a hit or two too much... very easy to go from euphoria to terrifying endless falling if you close your eyes, 2-d stuck on stupid feel. She literally helped me be an "adjusted" individual for the decade I had her..
since then, been managing. I lost her in '22, been in mourning since... actually lost a couple loved mothers then.. ditto. Anytime I grow a Haze, or haze hybrid, I compare it/them to her... nothing yet. Keep your loved ones close, cause everything goes away, and all your left with is memories... this applies to anything you love... anyways, had a few, thought about her, thought I'd rant about her here... hopefully, it won't be the last time I post in this thread... want euphoria.. want "trip" weed... made hybrids of her, but never found another even close... she's so far away from me.. so far I just can't see..

Hi guys,

The Panama Haze (Panama x Oldtimer's Haze) seems to get more psychoactive week after week with curing.

The quality of the effects with this one is premium. It may not be not be the strongest weed puff for fuff but the high ceiling allows to reach a next level psychedelic state. Its REALLY trippy ! Deep deep thoughts. It enhance your perceptions like real deal haze. Vision is sharp like you are watching a 3D movie. Music hits intense and multidimensional. Your perception of the surrounding is altered big time. I went for a walk yesterday at night after 3 bong hits and felt like I was visiting a new neighborhood. Everything seemed so different that I got lost for a couple minutes ... 3 streets away from home. Later I watched music videoclips on youtube and it was crazy ! Cinema like experience.

I feel you. Once that good stuff is at hand for a while, nothing compares. Here's to finding it again, just like FeelHaze has.

I smoked a sample of the wet season plant I grew. I had low expectations due to the weather, and they weren't even met. So far, out of three females only one had traits of the high that showed promise. That #2 plant from last year has some tickle of the upper cerebral parts of my brain. Maybe it would be good if it was stronger. I might have grown it poorly.

I'm starting to conclude that the Gypsy Nirvana Thai Stick x (Neville's Haze 21 x Mullumbimby Madness) seeds I have are similar to all the Haze seeds I have ever tried. It's poor quality unless you find the right one. The right one can be phenomenal. In all I have grown, maybe as many as sixty including these GNTS x (NH21 x MM), one was solidly good and one was the best weed ever. I have a few more to try.

This season I started healthy plants. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate. The wet season lingered late, and got VERY wet at the end. There has been major flooding, landslides, and almost total absence of sun for about six weeks. It finally broke a few days ago. My plants took a beating. On top of it all, I left town for about ten days. I left my male plant upwind due to not enough seeds on my late bloomer. Well, it was too much. Now all the plants are heavily seeded. Much more than I wanted. If it ain't one thing, it's three.

I have some pictures from today. The first is my northern early line. It is heavily seeded. This one I wanted that. Unfortunately, it hasn't thrown a fresh pistil for weeks before the floods arrive. This plant is proof that northern plants are no good here. It is beat up, moldy, and didn't get much sunshine. I need to find me a great tropical plant to breed this to.

The good news is that this plant stinks to high heaven of lemon, spice, and overripe tropical fruit funk. If I havested it today, I have no doubt I'd finally have some good weed to smoke. However, I'm going to give it a couple weeks more because I need those seeds fully ripe.

This next plant is a beauty. It's skinny leaves, open structure, and golden yellow color gave me so much hope. Unfortunately, it is very early. I haven't seen it throw a new pistil in a while. It smells good. It's very sweet. I'll leave it longer in hopes of a new flush of pistils, and let the seeds ripen, just in case I'm underestimating it.

Below is another early plant. It has buds that want to stack up like a good hash plant. It was easy to over-fertilize with nitrogen and got very dark green. Again, it doesn't even look like it will throw another pistil.

It is hilarious that I'm going from "when will these fresh pistils ever end" to "it doesn't look like it's got anything left in it." It's all about genetics and timing down here on the equator.

O.K., now for the great giant hope. Heavily seeded, but I can find new fresh pistils. It is a late bloomer for sure. Hopefully, it will get several more flushes of new pistils to fatten up the buds. An early Februrary finish would be ideal.

Greetings,

I havested my Northern line from Oregon today. The pungency started to diminish, and it wasn't dificult to find ripe seeds on it. My desire to have stash-worthy weed matched my need for good seed. If I get 100 seeds, I'll be very happy.

I've never pollinated my plants so heavily before. I never thought that a little seeds ever affected the quality of the smoke. Now I see that a heavy dose of pollen can arrest the flowering cycle. Up north, this line would take a little over three months to stop pushing out new pistils. This one has been flowering for three months and I haven't seen a fresh white pistil for a month. Perhaps the light cycle here also contributed to the abbreviated flowering period.

I feel a little sad that the flowering season is going away so quickly. The rains only stopped a little over a week ago. One plant is harvested, and two are not throwing any more pistils. I only have one plant that looks like it needs a couple of months more of flowering. I'm already looking forward to next season starting the Tiger Tail seeds from northeast Isan, Thailand.

Next season, I'll start the long flowering Asian genetics in August again. However, the plants from my northern line will be planted at least a month later, in case of a late ending wet season again. It will be another equatorial experiment given that the northern line will finish up in January, when the hours of daylight will have started increasing. I've been growing nearly all my life, and there is still so much to learn.

Best Wishes in Your Search
