The Search for Trip Weed

Hey Bushweed,

Thanks for posting your awesome pictures and insights here. I'm glad to hear this line is turning out so well.

Besides what a beautiful plant is in the picture, I like the rope. It looks long enough to be a zip line! There are two reasons to make me think it looks like a wild ride.

Bob Green - Sorry to hear the sad news about Chimera losses. Vision Thai lost, Highland Mex. cut lost. It is the same story over and over again. Hoarded cuts always disappear, eventually. We have to work many times harder when we don't share and cooperate. That is why I'm voting for legalization in Oregon this fall. Collapse the market and give no reason for greed.

Please forgive the political digression,

Look what I found:

This is a picture of Chimera's Highland Mex. x Blueberry from page 53 of "The Highland Oaxaca Gold Thread".

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=1219820&postcount=793

Here is a picture of the Highland Oaxacan that I'm growing:

picture.php

I just posted that these buds have started foxtailing in earnest in the last day or two.

"An observation of the indoor flowering cabinet: The GN x NHz x MM started out airy and wispy and is getting more dense clusters, while the Oaxacan started out relatively compact and dense but is now getting airier and wispy from the fox-tailing that has started in earnest in the last day or two. Funny... huh?"

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=6457245&postcount=373

Based on the amount of fox-tailing I have seen in these buds in the last couple of days, I think they will have extreme fox-tailing by the time they are ripe. They are just getting started with it now.

Here is a picture from today after a fresh flush of new pistils that are starting the foundation of what I think will be very long fox-tails:
picture.php

I have also stated that this Oaxacan does not seem to look like the Oaxacan Gold that some people have. It does not have gold (light yellow green) colored leaves while fresh. It is a dark green color strain while growing. It also is spicy as apposed to the orange citrus fresh aromas of other Oaxacan Gold varieties. It will be interesting to see if it cures to a golden brown as reported by growers of Chimera Highland Mex. x Blueberry.

I'm going to read more of the Chimera threads to see if I can find a picture of the pure Highland Mex. Guerrero leaf morphology. I'm sure that strains do not follow the borders of the Mexican states. Just like anywhere else, one strain can be grown in many widely distributed areas, though I believe Guerrero and Oaxaca are bordering states.

On the other hand, this kind of fox-tailing is fairly common in various Mexican strains. I know this, so you don't have to spoil my fun.

Just stopping in to say thanks for all the work on finding some exceptional cannabis lines. Those foxtails look stunning.

pure Highland Mex. Guerrero leaf morphology.

I haven't grow enough Highland Mexican / Blueberry (HMBB)to isolate a pure Highland Guerrero phenotype, but I will. My guess is the male shown is Guerrero leaning and the female represents the hybrid 50 -50. I stress and mutilate marijuana in micro grows, and grow HMBB like a vine bending the growing tip- so all FWIW.

For a short trip, I vaporize the HMBB dry sift, either that or, I'll have to learn how to grow wacky sativa indoors. IMO, Highland Mexico is a good place to look for a psychoactive, clear, and fun effect.

I'd love to look in my cabinet an see Highland Mexican foxtails like your picture. The first page of the Revival of the Ultimate Sativa Thread discusses a Highland Mexican called "Christmas Tree" with pictures that look exactly like the wispy cured Highland Mexican / Blueberry flowers from the better indoor growers on ICMag - with a smoke report that is similar to the HMBB effect. My flowers are not much to look at, but the high is old school connoisseur Mexican.

Thanks for posting. Those Thai Sticks are just a whole different animal aren't they? I like the two HG x BB in that last picture also.

There is just something about springtime in the grow room... something about all that potential.

Please keep us updated.

Satva - Thanks for the pictures.

I had some Flo at one time, from Dutch Passion I think. I grew a couple, and gave the rest of the seed away. It was good, but not very strong, and had some hermie issues. I think I had something else really good that made my choice easy. I regret not looking more carefully through those seeds since I see that all the lines from that original Oregon Purple Thai have such a dedicated following.

When that Oaxacan I have is looking ripe, I'm going to try and pull it out of my cabinet and take a picture outside with it. It is really tall and lanky, but it has nice buds all the way up and down and from the tips of the branches to the main stem of the plant. You just can't see it from the pictures because it is all bent over multiple times and twisted up with the Thai dominant sister in there. It reminds me of a daughter of the SAGE that I have. It occurs to me that marrying those might be a good idea. So many want to cross unrelated lines, while I think it may be good to bring together related lines, even if somewhat distantly related. We'll see how the Oaxacan turns out.

Hi Koondense,

What a beautiful plant! It looks very healthy with it's strong stems and beautiful glowing leaves. Nice job. Is that your Muay Thai?

Hello TB,
yes it's her:)

Still stretching like hell, around 2.5m high and wider than expected. I might give her even more space next time.
She has company, Copacabana superauto cousin.

Here they are, photo was taken last week:biggrin:

Peace

I had some Flo

I'm planning to cross Highland Mexican with Flo and F13. I have a Mango Haze/Highland Mexican that's looking cute like her Highland Guerrero father. Showing skinny light green 3 -finger leaves, they're very sensitive to nutrients.

Destroyer (Meao Thai pheno) high is like LSD-25 - clean, clear, electric, and cerebral. Highland Mexican is like mushrooms, clear, energetic, fun and active. Highland Mexican is softer and more relaxed. Flo and F13 are my idea to continue the softening and relaxing effect. Dubi has some nice notes on Tikal ~ Guatemalean / Northern Lights/Haze.

Guerrero to Oaxaca to Guatemala Yucatan region is a wonderful Mayan culture. I like the light green skinny leaf plants with the citrus and floral terpenes.

Combining Highland Guerrero citrus terpenes with the mango terpenes of Mango haze (HMBB-MH-B), or my favorite the citrus terpenes of Mango haze (MH-A/HMBB) and the floral terpenes of DJ Shorts Blueberry genetics (HMBB) f2 is what I'm doing + Highland Thai x Highland Mexican (Destoyer/HMBB) untested.

PS> I really enjoyed the discussions about ~ Looks like an indica - smokes like a sativa. Better or worse, I select for skinny leaves and branchy structure.

PPS> I don't remember anything relaxing about the 1975 Highland Oaxacan Gold,- 18" gold, yellow, orange, and light green flower tops. My brothers best friend grew a patch of Oaxacan for many years. Putting names aside if you can isolate Highland Mexican phenotypes - you won't be disappointed!

TB- exicted about the Oaxacan you have. That strain is said to have properties similar to the original diesel. Some believe this is the origin of the genetics. A part anyway.
Looks very nice. Strains that have gone gold on me did it around week 9. Yellow and gold leaves and the buds have a pink hue to them.

Guerrero supposedly had seed stock that came from leb hash plant. Rumored to have given rise to onion and garlic strains from years ago. Look for any of those phenotypes as possible keepers.

Have a wifi X tahoe that turned out pretty trippy. The closest thing to trip weed I've had. A friend and I took 2 hits and sometime later we looked at each other wondering how much time had just passed. It could have been 2 minutes or 10. All we knew was we were higher then normal from just 2 hits. Effect is very spacey and long lasting. She smells great too.

I'm very lucky to have acquired it from a very generous soul, and I'm anxious to see what it is like.

I've heard this a few times now. So far, I've only smelled an onion smell was when I grew a Bangi Haze indoors. I have not smelled that in my outdoor ones. I did not keep a cutting of the indoor test, and I hope I did not miss the boat on that, because I loved the quality of the high. It is what caused me to want to grow outside again, after a few years of sabbatical. Onion was one of many aromas it had, and the outdoor ones are expressing the others, lemon; pepper; skunk; hash; perfume; anise.

If Bangi Haze ripens early enough, and turns out as good as the first indoor test did, then I'm going to start from scratch with Bangi Haze, and toss out my 32 year old continuously preserved and bred outdoor line. Some great genetics went into this line, but some couch-lock Indicas are in it also. I can't seem to rid the line of that effect, and I've had it up to my eyeballs. Couch-lock effects got introduced because of secondary considerations, like early ripening, bud size, taste, etc., etc..

My other 32+ year indoor line, is free from it. Just stalled, a decade, for lack of new genetics good enough, hence "The Search..."

What strain is in the picture you posted?

Sounds great. I remember looking at Tahoe somewhere along the line, but I never pulled the trigger on getting it. Perhaps it was not offered anywhere, it was just a report and pictures. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll have to do some research on the Wifi.

All the Best,

ThaiBliss

hey Thai Bliss,

I think you are going the right direction towards finding a true trip weed.....
despite what some may think, for you to acomplish your task, I wouldn´t eaven start searching the Kush / skunk / berry lines .... I think you should go full on those crude sativas!
colombian, thai, african strains..... maybe eaven some haze, or other 100% sativa hybrids
awsome thread man!

The onion smell is also found in Jack Herer and Cindy 99 from what I have tried. The Oaxacan from old reports said it had a trippy feel to it. Hope you find one of them.

What strain is in the picture you posted?
It is Goblin Queen.
in the gold. Just a lucky pheno. The others are the wifi X tahoe #2.

For trip weed I'd explore Malawai, African strains like real durban (purple)(not the euro skunk hybrid), ATF, Lambsbread, Columbian, acapulco gold, Nevel's haze. Some of the smokers in the sativa thread have heavy hitters like mullumbimby madness X haze 21 that will really ring the bell. Kali mist would be another quality worth exploring for the effect. (Girls are supposed to love the effect for some reason) You only want to tell a few otherwise they all would want to come over.

African black magic is the last one I'll mention. A friend who smoked it back during the one time it made it to the east coast said it was like shake with seeds and black. Who knows if it was real or had other things in it but someone on here said something about purple durban years ago having similar effects in oz. Might not be a bad place to look for trippy genetics. THCV is said to enhance the effect and malawi strains seem to have higher percentages in it's genetics.
Hope that helps.

interesting the convo turned to onion

i just took down a chem sis pheno of chacos chem sis x nevilles haze.

2 haze pheno females had lovely fruit smells, too much stretch tho

1 chem sis dominate pheno had a onion smell, grilled onions specifically, exactly like you smell outside of In N Out, giving her a second round in a week. I think ill call it 'Animal Style pheno'

I got two ethiopian x haze that smell just like that, onion. One also have some incense tones in the background. Just smoked this one, tasted right like the smell.
Potent stuff even after a too early harvest.
Sounds promising for the next time! :)

It's insultingly obvious, but I want to throw it out there anyway: if you want a trippy experience from pot, you better not have a big tolerance built up. I recently abstained from smoking for 6 weeks while travelling and then went to town on Zamaldelica BHO. It was mindblowing, similar to mushrooms in many ways (just not as hallucinogenic). Even the next day, I already could not replicate the experience with the same BHO.

I think with a fairly big tolerance you can determine what weed would probably be capable of giving trippy effects, but for the full experience you need to abstain for a couple of weeks.

Somewhat related question to the oldtimers remembering the great pot of their youth: are you sure the pot was special, or could it have been your low tolerance at the time? In my memory, I had more profound smoking experiences when I was young, and no modern stuff seems to be able to do that. I always assumed my receptor structure had been permanently altered, which no period of abstention can repair.

I don’t know, there were certain types that put you in a different dimension regardless of how little or much you smoked. I don’t think it was a tolerance thing although tolerance can be a factor. I think it may have been more of a “purity” issue, the pot of old was not bred as much or had fewer components in its composition that may have affected the high (meaning less diluted).
