just a little food for thought here . it seems many people are confused by skunky smelling strains . many of these in my opinion are within the genetic family tree of garlic bud as it was known back in the day ....the fragrance is indeed "skunky" it is not as foul as the so called RKS ,they are both of afghanica origin however the afghan that RKS is from is not this garlic bud type such as sensi's afghani #1 and offspring such as sk#1 etc. it is another less common type . much of this type of afghan has been lost during the occupation of afghanistan by soviet army IMO . i have passed some of the RKs type afghan to people who grew it outdoors ......... they said they loved the christmas tree type structure and claimed it was some of the best ganja EVER . they have smoked many of the modern hybrids such as NYCD , Jack Herer , and many other kushes etc. ....the currrent clone that we kept is 50% pure afghan and 50% NL#1 . it is foul smelling yet in a good way . it smmacks you in the mouth with its flavor where at first you're not sure if you like it or not then it settles in and grows on you . i wouldn't however say it tastes good though .... now did i forget any thing? oh yeah photos ..... soon perhaps ...... many blessings ,hidingtree

heres what i did with pretty good results, but even in a glass of water is better than paper towel i think...

Take a large wide mouth mason jar and fill with water.

add

1 teaspoon 3% Hydrogen peroxide
1 teaspoon mollasses(organic unsulphered)
1 teaspoon B vitamin/seaweed solution
Drop in the seeds

set up a small bubbler system and aerate the solution with a 1 inch stone.Cover the jar top with saran wrap and an elastic band

I like to sit the aerated jar on top of the flouros of the cloning shelf so that the temp hits 75-80F

As soon as you see the seed crack take it out and plant it in a STERILE medium, feeding it with B vitamin solution at the rate of 5ml/gal

hashmasta are these measurements for a 1 quart wide mouth mason jar?
I went to the store for 1 and it seems they have a wide selection of sizes. Id hate to get the wrong size and add 1 teaspoon of the goodies and fry my seeds. thanks for the advise. cracking seeds and cloning is the weakest part of my game, I could use all the help I can get thanks

Paper towel is the only method I've ever tried. Care to elaborate on any other better method? I'm always game to try other ways to propagate the ganj.

Replace the paper with cotton wads or a towel. Thin paper sheets have a tendency to dry out, especially if you use a heat source.

The seeds need water to germ, but they need oxygen as well. Therefore, the germination medium should be moist rather than wet, and aerated. Paper's crap in that sense, cotton is better because it retains water better and areates better.

I do soften up the seed pods in a glass of water first, especially if the seeds are old. The hydrogen peroxide Hashmasta-Kut mentioned will oxygenate the water, which will increase the water's capacity to penetrate the seed pod.

only skunk reeks like skunk.

Not sure I agree with you a 100% there. The roadkill skunk smell seems to be a reocurring theme in different type of genetics, kind of like pine/fruity/berry/vanilla/spice/rotten meat scents can appear in different strains, with different intensity.

The Skunk is simply the most known for it, in terms of intensity, and has become representative of it.

I've heard that D39 comes pretty close, I don't know how true that is.

its not a recurring theme. you dont know the smell of the 80's roadkill if you believe that. i have been searching for something like it since 01 with 0 success.

Im getting more and more sure of the thing that what we had here was actually Skunk x Afghan, closest to the original smell are some affies and hybrids that are very afghan dom that I have now seen and had the pleasure to smoke...:chin: dont get me wrong theres a lot of variation in afghans also but this one smell I think everyone knows pops very often from those lines.

I wonder if thats where the skunky smell from my plant is coming from. The skunk is used in Jack Herer and the Afghani is used in White Rhino. I believe some how I got some Afghani genes in this plant. Heres a pic from around 1 week veg.

i'd say 1 out of 10 people people really know what the roadkill really is....i got tons of strains that stink fierce...and plenty that are "skunky"....but to compare them to rks is funny...i have a handful or two of strains that you can smell in your pocket or when you open a jar it stinks up the house....i have a cupboard i keep my sealed jars in and when u walk by you can still smell buds...but none of them smell like a skunk just sprayed....don't be confused....stinky weed doesn't equal rks.

Perhaps reeferman should send out a bunch of testers for objective grow reports, instead of swearing that his is the one. I'll believe 100 over 1 any day.
