Zamalito, I have had some experience with the sativas in Mauritius and all I can say is WOW...NICE! the people I smoked with actually told me that La Reunion has much, much better bud than the stuff grown on Mauritius. The stuff I smoked on M.U was just like that bud I used to get as a teenager, stringy, shitty lookin and no odor really to speak of but wow... the high... it really took me back to the days of non stop laughter, borderline euphoria and a paranoia free buzz, just beautiful. A friend brought back seeds but unfortunately they were lost months ago during house moving however, in November another friend is returning from M.U with a promise to bring as many as possible so I'm lookin forward to that...
The pure zamal requires a few tricks like starting them in january/february rootbinding them and making sure they grow under full sun to get them to finish before the weather gets too cold and rainy. Also I've been inbreeding for a few generations to get the flowering to trigger earlier without shortening the actual time it takes to flower and they typically finish by the end of the first week of november.
The zamal x parvati finishes the end of september in the southeastern u.s. Many probably doubt it but I swear the buzz and flavor of the zamal x parvati is pretty damn close to the pure form. Unfortunately I've harvested all of the zamal x parvati except for one before I got the nice camera. The zamals and zamal x parvatis were grown in a field of thousands of wild passionflower vines. The flowers are gone for the most part however most of the delicious and fragrant fruit is still ripening. Anyway the day I went to photograph the one that hadn't been harvested yet we got hit by high winds and lots of rain which loosened the fibers of the stems making the plant limp and unsuitable for photography. However I did manage to take a few pictures of two very nice ones before harvesting (not close ups) with a very mediocre for a 3.1 mp camera. I also plan on having some pics of the dried and freshly harvested wet bud put up also. The nice thing about harvesting in the rain is the bud retains its shape for several hours after harvesting.
hi all, i have had the pleasure in trying out the zamal indoors. i originaly got turned on to these seeds after seeing uncle bens posts with his zamal crossed afghani that was posted on CW, my grow was done with the gn03 collection from gypsey. the plants as seedlings are quite slow to get going but when they do get going the growth is awesome, my girls took over 20 weeks and the flowers were huge and were made up of lots of miniature colas all spiking out from the main branches. the high from these ladies cannot be matched in my oppinion for its speedy high and beautiful floral taste, i only wish i had got a male to put over a few of my clones. regards
this is what I wrote in June "I haven't smoked any Zam for a few years now ..for one reason or another ..but this year is gonna be a Zamal year.
I've just started a few Zam x NH and few Zam x Zam......even a few Zam/C99 x Black Dom/C99 and others....some should finish in later this year and some will finish early next year.
well...I grew a few seedlings on my balcony again this year...small plants, mostly sativas that were 3 ~ 5 ft tall one stalkers or tipped, shorter and bushier ones
the Cindy crosses have been harvested, a couple of others too, I've got a few haze x's in various stages of flowering.
and also i've got a Zamal x Zamal and a Zamal x Nev Haze in pots, they were tipped a few times in veg and look identical, less than 3 ft tall with 4 or 5 fat 8 ~ 12 inch (25 ~ 35 cm) buds ....they should be ready in late Oct or early Nov (26th Lat Nth), it's been dry and sunny for the past few months, let's hope this keeps up!
jingles wrote the high from these ladies cannot be matched in my oppinion for its speedy high and beautiful floral taste,
I always get an earthy tasting bud with hints of vegetable...although the smell and taste are uniquely Zamal, it's quite drab in the areas of smell, taste and looks
and yeah, I'd rate the high as excellent and unique too..but not high potency..perhaps the Zamal x Nev Haze I have in late flowering now will show increased potency. I've grown a few of these crosses out and some have been good and some have just ok.
I found a broken off, half dry, small bud hanging off the Zam x NH today so zapped it in the vaporizer and got a nice little buzz first thing in the morning..very clear, decent potency!..I cant wait until I can smoke a cured bud!
potancy is differnt in sativas and indicas in my opinion
if you get a sativa bud from an indica then u could say it isnt potant i guess.
alot of people just dont notice sativa highs, or undersand that there differnt, some have a buzz that makes you forget your high... or your so hight hat you dont realise you are and cant remember lol
ive had some of those.. smoked em and thought they were shit, couldsnt remember the high in particular, but those around me told me i was very very high acting stupid, which i dnt remember
gotta love the sativa bagseed
I am keeping a cut of some nice saiva bagseed i grew this year. Id love to keep it as a mother since its such a nice high, and easier cloner, might even cross it to other sativas to cut down on the flower time/ racy high, since its a mellow happy buzz and finishes fast
id like to try zamal to see what everyone means, havent talked to a soul that hates zamal, but most everyone says its great but only medium potancy, not one hitter
hey Zam, what do you say gives ZDP its kick, that specialness. Its a great plant imo very unique maybe it takes after a certain strain in it background to backcross to?
be careful when drying sativa landraces and other sativas.
.......because they tend to have buds that are less dense than today's most common hybrids they will over-dry very quickly, so you have to be careful when initially drying the plants after harvest.
A two foot long indica branch with heavy solid buds may take 10 days ~ 2 weeks of slow drying before being dry enough for the bottle, the same size sativa branch might be snap dry in 4 or 5 days - be careful not to over-dry your airy buds as this will affect the taste, the drying and curing process is best done without letting the buds get crispy in the first week after harvesting . ....and due to being loose and airy, landrace sativas like Zamal and Thai, are best bottled with a little more dampness than denser buds as long as you monitor this airing/sweating/airing process carefully.
basically, if after drying the branch, you put that sativa bud in a jar and it doesn't rehydrate then you have screwed up by letting it get too dried out.......you then can put a few fresh leaves in the jar and re-seal it to help the buds rehydrate, but this doesnt seem to give as good of a result by not allowing the buds dry out too quickly or too much just after harvesting in the first place.
there are about 200 different zamal strains, or phenos.
the best ones stay in the hills and never get sold to tourists.True the reunionnais dont give a shit about skunk and hybrids, just because theirs is the very best. That island is the heaven of smokers, I tell ya.
shit i think we gotta bust out a bottle of vin to commemorate the opening of the zamalito bluebeard victory garden... those are some beautiful plants, the first one is like POW! it looks like afghani on stilts.
