The Postman's Overgrown Closet Grows #2

I was doing a little thinking on the whole trashcan grow. Maybe a reasonable solution to stealth+access would be to simply make a tray/shelf to set down inside the trashcan with handles/rope/chain/whatever used to pull it out? Lift the tray out and use that as the growing shelf. Could set up a built in scrog frame, or whatever you felt like with that. It'd still be awkward to work with, but it should be doable.

Didn't destroy too many vases, mom was more one for having potted flowers than vases of them.

Mind you, when I got ahold of the flasks and tubing from the chem lab, or made a trip to the hardware store... them were fun times. The 10gal gravity bong was a sure hit at any party.

And damn but I'd love to puff on one of those purple beauties. Still struggling to get my first run with bagseed to harvest (Just starting flowering now, we'll see what happens) . I don't have a camera so I can't really show off any pics yet... not that I have anything to show but some mistreated and somehow still living plants. Plus some local schwag that I'm smoking on and hoping to soon no longer need to buy.

Haha a 10gal gravity bong is a blast from the past for sure.. I wonder if my old lungs can still hang with a gravity bong...

Thanks for the suggestions, and hope your grows come along better for you in the future. A small harvest, is better then no harvest at all... Good luck!!

I finished up some things on the garbage can, so here it is..

As of right now I have 2-26 6500k, and 2-26w 2700k. For flowering I'll swap them all out for 4 - 42watt 2700k, and add more if I feel it's needed when the time comes.

250 cfm exhaust.. The light comes through on the side, and a hook keeps them in the center of the can. I put a plant in to see if the exhaust, and passive intake would be enough, and I was happy to see those leaves waving in the breeze :woohoo:

Very impressive, nice and clean. I think I've pretty much got a handle on my current little grow. These plants I don't have too high hopes for, but they should turn out fairly good. Getting the hang of getting the soil right, watering problems, heat issues and other little learning curve jolts, keeps me on my toes.

Are you planning to just set the plants down in the bottom there, in their respective pot/pots? Come to a decision on SCROG? I think setting up a removable tray/caddy with built in SCROG screen to put the plants in would be handy, but could be more trouble to set up than it's worth.

I don't think I could hang with that old gravity anymore... damned thing used a road cone and had a bowl made from a tin can (As in the kind you get beans in) I know at one party we actually packed a full 1/4oz in there for some dumbass reason. These days I stick mostly to a simple bong or glass pipe. Expecting to get a vape soon though, if my friend comes through with it. Always wanted to play with one of them.

I hope to see this new toy of yours in action soon. That and don't forget to keep the bud porn coming. I can never get enough of that purple bud, I'm really hoping to lay hands on a strain or two showing that sort of coloration. love the eye candy.

This strain is really nice. Not to much stretching in veg, and the inner node growth is really tight, and packed.. Awesome compact bushy plants so far..

I gave their first feeding of organic tea, and they seemed to really like it.. The yellowing ceased for the most part, and growth is really starting to take off.. I topped 2 of the 9 for clones already, and will be taking a cutting from each before flowering them out.. If this ends up being primo pot I want my mother plant, so I can grow, and smoke it for a long long time:smoking:

At any rate I really like the looks of these plants. I just wish I had the space to really grow them large, but I'm sure that's to come once I smoke, and find out which plant I like best.. Then on concentrate on it, and grow it any way you could possibly imagine;) . In vegg I'm already getting a pugnent skunky aroma, so I have feeling good things are to come for these beauties.

Pic of all 9 wonder deez

closer up of 8
11783post_24_pic_2.jpg

11783post_24_pic_3.jpg

Also 2 of the 9 spit out 3 shoots/leaves from the node every so often.. They didn't start out as tri's, but every so often I get an extra branch, or leaf set.. Hopefully at least 1 of these are female... In the first two pics if you look closely you can se the extra 3rd leaf
11783post_24_pic_4.jpg

11783post_24_pic_5.jpg

This pic shows a tri node.. Basically where there should only be 1 branch it splits (unlike a top) and makes two. So there are 2 inner node branches on one side, and 1 on the other, making three branches at the node.
11783post_24_pic_6.jpg

Here are a few pics of the plants:

First pic is actually of that one that had the yellowing early on.. As you can see I topped this plant to try and get those inner node branches to branch out a bit.. They are so compact, and so close to the main stem it looks like a big ball of growth LOL..
11783post_24_pic7.jpg

This is the other plant topped to try and get those inner node branches to push out a bit
11783post_24_pic8.jpg

11783post_24_pic_9_2_.jpg

This is an awesome plant.. As you can see it's untopped, but still bushing out of control.. Really nice natural branching on these babies
11783post_24_pic_10_2_.jpg

Also I got my little garbage can fluorescent grow going.. I repotted 2 nice PPP clones into a container, and placed them into the garbage can.. I'll vegg for a bit like this, and then I'll transplant into their final flowering tub, set the screen and veg them a lil longer working them into the screen a bit before flipping to 12/12.. So far everyting looks good to go though :woohoo:

Amazing bud shots, those look beautiful. What are your night temps during flowering?

Night time temps dipped as low as 60-65 this round (average ambiant house temps).. This plant is naturally purple though. I've grown her for a while now, and even in 90 degree summer heat she's purple from beginning to end. I have a few more pics from a few other grows of her somewhere here on icmag..

Update pics of a few plants I have in flower...

Last week I harvested a PPP plant, and this week I have another PPP plant starting to flower strong, and take it's place in the closet. Gotta love the efficiency of a perpetual grow..
11783post_28_pic_1.jpg

This profile shot shows the nice branching
11783post_28_pic_2.jpg

purple caylx coloring are apparant right from the onset of flowering
11783post_28_pic_3.jpg

God I love the hasberry. such strong vigorous growth from this strain. Never any issues.. Look how those leaves reach for the light
11783post_28_pic_4.jpg

11783post_28_pic_5.jpg

Getting close for the grapefruit x NL.. Like clockwork last week I found 3 or 4 male flowers on her... So like previous rounds I picked them off, and began the flush... This will probably be the last run for her as I have a few others seeds to plant, and one of them may be a bit more stable as far as the herming goes... At any rate she's got trichomes stacked upon trichomes..... Really got her dialed in this run

11783post_28_pic_8.jpg

As for the wonder diesels go... They are vegging beautifully still.. I got 6 of them cloned, so some time this week I'll be transplanted a few of them, and placing them into flower

That was a fun ride...

Can't wait for more!!!
:lurk:

Oh don't you worry there will be more to come :) This journal was basically for the wonder diesel I have in veg... But before I can fit them into the flower closet I had to take down a few plants I've been flowering previously so that's some of what ur seeing now.. Basically what I'm doing now is cleaning out the flower closet, and getting it ready so I can fit most if not all of those wonder diesel I have veggin now when the time comes..

Dang Mr. P... that PPP of yours is damned pretty. Hopefuly I can end up with a similar strain eventually. Working with bagseed... so who knows what I've got? I have no clue, but it's growing and it'll be smokeable. Saving the good genes for when I have a better idea what I'm doing.

Are you planning to run mostly just the Wonder Diesel this time through? Any insight as to what, if anything will be sharing the flowering space?

From your original journal, I know you ran a NL and Ice in autopots. You mentioned basically using a large tray to water several plants at once with the smartvalve from the autopot. Difficulty in managing to keep nutes dialed in for various strains was (I think) one reason you didn't follow up on that to my knowledge. Any thoughts on revisiting that idea? Since you seem to be moving to a more robust organic medium and less use of fert feedings. I have plans in mind for something along those lines, seems like with a little planning it could be almost foolproof and very low maintenance.

Yes, mostly just the wonder desiels. I do have two others (PPP and Hashberry) that may share the closet depending on how I look with males/females with the wonder diesel.. Right now I'm taking cutting of all the wonder diesels, and the largest plants will be going into flower within the week. I'm probably going to put six in, and keep 6 in vegg to grow a little larger, and fill spots as the original show sex.. I'm really short on space here the importance of this run was to get them all cloned, and flowered so I can choose my favorite and move on with it...

The auto pots worked great, but there were a few reasons I didn't run with them as I had planned.. One being the situation I'm in at this point with a small space, and lots of different strains. I liked the idea of flowering a variety of strains each run, so they are at all differnt places in flower naturally, so that pretty much stratched the tub idea right there.. Not enough space to keep all the different strains happy.. I'd need a few more resivoirs, and multiple growing bins/ or pots and I didn't have the space for it.. Plus it would have taken a lot more time to get the system down, and producing regularly with good results. So the soil/container was much more suitable for keeping all the strains seperate. I was able to place them into flower on rotation, and was able to have plants just starting to flower, amognst those in full bloom. Maybe someday when I have the space, or can ever devote a run to one strain I may revisit the idea of the auto pots. For now I fill free space with soil instead of resivoirs  :joint:

Pluss I can't lie.. I love soil.. I have a soil fetish of sorts.... Nothing feels quite like running my hands through and mixing up a good organic mix.. I thought I could do without it in my indoor grow, but I just couldnt... I just could not stop mixing it... :Bolt:

I got some pics of the wonder diesels, and figured I'd give a lil update... So far the wonder diesels are vegging wonderfully.. Some are bushy as all hell. Some of the most compact plants I've grown to date. I started pulling clones of each, topped a few, and started some slight lst on some others... I got two distinct phenos..1 extremely compact and bushy, and one more stretchy and not as bushy

Here are the two plants I put into flower yesterday.. 1 plant has been topped, and the other i just tied down the top shoot a bit to get the inner growth to catch up with the top... Putting these into flower a little earlier gave some room to repott, and vegg the others a little longer so it's all good

Oh I almost forgot to update about the plant I threw into the garbage can LOL.. Well it's growing, and it's growing beautifully.. So far I've only been feeding them worm casting tea with a side of liquid karma..... That's it.... And It's working great!!! I may grow all my plants like this.... And do away with bottled base fertilizers until it's time to flower them.. It keeps the soil clean, and I've been having much less problems as far as fertilizer burn, defficiencies (sp?), or ph problems.. For a short veg period like this nothing more is really needed other then a healthy organic nutrient rich soil, and a lil worm casting, and liquid karma for adding some nutrients, and beneficials to the soil.

The potting mix I used for these plants can be purchased at wal-mart. It's nothing more then walmarts Expert brand organic soil (similar to miracle grow organic), terracycle potting mix which is worm castings, compost, and coco coir, and of course perilite added until the mixture is nice and loose..

As far as the construction of the garbage can lol... I decided against the scrog screen for a few reasons.. 1 being I can get similar efficient tight growth with lst, and the main reason is once the plant was in th screen I couldn't remove it from the garbage can, or even turn the plant if I wanted too. Flushing would have been a bit more trouble etc... So Simply put in this small confined space it'd be more trouble then it was worth IMO. I did end up cutting a square hole in the side which I placed a vent register that can be opened or closed for air flow.. I can also pull the register out, and this allows me some room to fit my arms in and tend to the plant without pulling it out of the garbage can..

Hehe he's the vent I put in.. Oh and that blue thing... it's a hopeless attempt to kill odors LOL..
11783post_35_pic_8.jpg

And this is what I see looking down into the trash can:hello: Color is a bit off as th lights were on when I took the pic.. As you can see lots, and lots of bud sites
11783post_36_pic2.jpg

This is the side view of the plants.. As you see it's two plants in the same pot with some slight lst going on to even out the cannopy.. Within the next few days I'll be repotting them into a 5 gal tub, and starting the flowering cycle 12/12:D

WOw......dang nice show you got going on here man! I love the ppp!! Glad I stumbled across this thread. Give me some good insight into organic soil. I grow hydro so it's interesting to learn how you do it.

Two thumbs up! :smoke:

Another plant I recently lst'd. This plant was in the second batch I planted so a couple weeks younger then the ones I placed into flower. I tucked a few of the fan leaves out of the way to open up some spots for light

This is the plant that turned yellow early on.. I recently transplanted, and topped it, and it's coming along nicely now.. Really bushy indica leaves, and growth so I'm thinking this may be a lil willy wonder. I got another plant with similar bushy growth..

Yup, I'll pop in for sure. I've got my :lurk:

I see we do the same training somewhat with the tucking fan leaves. I can't help but do it through the whole grow.

I remember someone around here said once "I'm not growing leaves, I'm growing buds" Amen!
