We are on a well and its as hard as water can be and still flow.
Kills a mechanical dishwasher within a year........every single one
Had to go back to the one I got when we first were married..........wife LOVES that joke btw.
😆
We both hate salt water softened water so we use a electrostatic softener that doesn't seem to do shit.
Plants and animals seem to thrive on it and its in 100% of what I drink daily.

I just use sunshine mix #4.
I use a 50:50 mix of Sunshine Mix #4 Advanced Organic with BX Pro-Mix as a base and got mostly away from perlite due to the aluminum content (and the rate at which it breaks down), using mostly volcanic pumice now, with some vermiculite. And wouldn't you know it; a couple years into the volcanic pumice and most places I know of have quit handling it, except for Jeff Bezos' cluster fk.

My wife just shared the science/trivia facts of the morning.

Elephants are apparently afraid of bees, and they can communicate via stomping on the ground and the seismic vibrations that result.

Maybe the original 'jungle drums'?
I was part of an effort to save the Elephants world wide and researched the bee thing. Elephants do avoid bees because they sting them on their snout.

The native protect their fields by hanging hives from ropes surrounding the field. Interestingly, the elephants quickly figure out if the bee hive buzzing that they are hearing is a recording and can't be fooled with just buzzing sounds.

My wife says (in all seriousness) that the use of bee hives to keep the elephants out of the crops, has led to a significant/thriving honey production industry now.

Another 'lemons into lemonade' scenario, I guess.

Almond flour and whole wheat pastry flour pancakes w/ micro-drizzle of organic maple syrup, 1 egg over-easy, and 2 strips of uncured no-sugar, maple syrup bacon for breakfast, with 16-oz. of French roast coffee with a splash of 40% heavy whipping cream.

Makes the -50 f. nonsense seem a ways away.

I add one tsp as top dressing and drench it in....used it for years.... I am a big fan of perlite though.
A soil person in the forums here, years ago, informed me of the 11% to 14% aluminum punch in the perlite, and the fact that it breaks down in a crop in relatively short time had me transition initially to rice hulls (got unsteamed by mistake, in a 50-lb. bail and as a side crop found myself weeding out a lot of rice in my containers), then eventually the volcanic pumice.

Still use a fair bit of vermiculite, whether in mushrooms or in cannabis, due to its moisture retention and CEC qualities.
