that and Bois d’arc , which is some very hard wood

i made a wood float out of bodark and i swear it was as hard as my magnesium float

Bois d’arc wood is rated 2620 on the Jonka Hardness Scale…which puts Bois d’arc at number 9…
Lignum Vitae is apparently 4500 on that hardness scale. Worked with a guy who liked to carve wood. He wanted to try LV. He gave up because his knives would only stay sharp for a couple of cuts.

When I was living on Palawan in the Philippines 🇵🇭 over 10 years back - the hardest and most expensive hardwood you could buy was called EPIL - it was very similar to Indonesian Ironwood - and people liked it because the termites didn't eat thru it - like just about every other wood out that way -

Cyprus wood naturally repels termites

Don’t forget Redwood. Redwood is the most rot in termite resistant wood of all. The part of Florida that I live in his covered with Cypress trees in the mills sell it quite cheap. I built a gigantic arbor back in the late 70s at my first home, and that Cypress rotted apart in no time. The home I live in now is clad clear all heart vertical grain redwood that I bought in Dallas in 1999… I don’t believe you can find it anywhere for sale and if you do the prices are sky high…
