Sheep tallow does not sound good just sayin’ I use vegetable oil and olive oil but do use lard and bacon dripping too and butter also but none of those “like butter” things.

Cloudy with rain here, starting at 41F and predicted to rise to 49F.

Unable to sleep so am up early this morning. My battle plan kept going through my head on dealing with Area Heating and Cooling quoting me $150 to show up and $200/hr plus repairs to fix the furnace at one of the rentals but billed me $900 for 30 minutes work and $120 worth of parts on my Visa.

Their service manager stands by the billing, so pursuing my next option with the general manager and preparing for a legal battle after I cancel the Visa charge as fraud.

My electric boiler broke down well over a year ago - and I have since refused to have it fixed - due to the astronomical cost quoted to me - in some ridiculous 'estimate' - and I must say that it has worked out quite well financially for us here - since we do have an electric kettle that costs very little to heat up - so we still do technically have hot water -
Neither do we have any heating on in the apartment - but we do have electric blankets - and lots of very warm clothing -

Our apartment doesn't have a gas connection - so we only have electricity which costs around 30 pence (around 40 USA cents) per kilowatt hour - and for the past whole year we only spent £999 on electricity - which works out at around £2.70 per day -

When we did have 24/7 hot water and heating our annual bill was around £4000 per year - so we are very happy to have saved £3000 this past year - and if we need a proper scrub-up (in a very hot power shower) - clean towels/soap and moisturiser - a jacuzzi and/or a dry or wet sauna - then we all March a mile to the 🏋️‍♀️ gym for it - plus we get a good workout - makes good financial sense to all of us -

I used to put bacon grease on brand new sponges ( dishes ) and cut the sponge up into 1/2 inch squares and then put them about a 1/3 mile back into the wooded forest behind our place to dismiss the coyotes to their next world .. something about gastric juices and sponges
Now that is one method I never heard of. I sat here thinking about how that would work, and I came up with this:

1. The little greasy squares are small enough to be swallowed without difficulty by yotes.

2. Once inside said pore ole yote, the grease is digested, leaving a fargin sponge.

3. Leaving a whole lot of fargin sponges. Blocked guts, and game over.

My hats off to your practical solution brother! We used our fireplace one winter waiting for our dead oil furnace to be replaced with a gas one. I had the gas run and the gas company did it up to our house and installed a meter without charge to get us as a customer.

Where are you located now? I wish our climate would permit the option of not replacing the furnace here, but without heat not only would the loudly protesting tenants freeze, but so would the water pipes.

I'm also guessing that either the term apartment or the tenant/landlord rules are different there, as locally the word apartment suggest a landlord, who would be responsible for maintaining the boiler.

We replaced all the furnaces, including ours before I retired and I keep a half dozen radiant heaters on hand to loan to tenants when necessary, for their comfort and to protect the building.

Worse when we lose power due to winter storms and nothing works, including the gas furnace blowers, so I keep one backup generator on hand. Fortunately none of the power outages have ever lasted long enough to be a serious issue.

We live near the Thames River - on the Surbiton side of Kingston-Upon-Thames - it's a London Borough - in England - and the apartment is an ex-council flat - 30 steps up on the 3rd floor - so we do benefit a bit from the heat emanating from the 2 apartments below - rarely the temperature gets below freezing in the winter - and if it does get really-really cold then we do have an electric heater we could turn on - in an emergency - but haven't had to use it yet this year at all - our home is not rented to us - because I was able to take out a mortgage and buy it many years ago - from the local council -

Here that would be closer to a condo than an apartment. Do you get charged an annual fee to maintain the building and grounds?

Good morning folks. It’s raining its ass off here. Did manage to get the puppy to do his business this morning standing out in the pouring rain. Had planned to finish som Christmas shopping today but think instead we will save that for Wednesday and bake some chocolate chip cookies and wet trim that last cap junky plant in the flower tent. Hope everyone has a nice day planned and are staying warm and dry. ✌️

Now its contaminated ,needs 24hr security, costs us money still.
