Micro and bloom IS lucas formula Elmer, but in coco it's recommended to go with 6/9 instead of the 8/16 that Lucas calls for since coco has plenty of P in it and holds in to it.

G`day Jnugg

I guessed it was GH formula .
Yes I understand the lower K[ not P] . The coco holds it in .

For a newbie I`d stick with perlite . The summer is coming in the Nthn Hemisphere shortly .The heat can lead to complications more easily in coco .
Perlite is a lot easier to manage for inexperienced growers .

That`s why the Hempy Bucket is so popular, its simple . Don`t make it more complicated than it needs to be ...

Thanks for sharin

I don't know where you get either of those statements from, but I would strongly disagree. Coco is not only easier to work with, but it's cleaner (no dust to breathe in), and produces much better results, for the simple reason that coco holds a vast amount of oxygen, whereas perlite doesn't. There is a reason Hempy and many other experienced growers switched from perlite to coco long ago. It's superior in every way. Larger yields from coco, and foolproof if you use quality brand.

G`day RG

Well I use coco myself .
for the simple reason that coco holds a vast amount of oxygen, whereas perlite doesn't.

There are lots of gaps in a bucket of perlite . They are occupied by ... oxygen ! Hempy`s coco recipe calls for perlite in the rez so that kinda ruins that argument ?

If it was actually fool proof there wouldn`t so many threads with people having problems . Yes ?
For some one who has some exp, changing from perlite / vermiculite, to coco is not too big a step up in technology .
If you go back a page and read the half dozen newb posts I was responding to . You might understand why I dumbed it down for this kid ...

WRONG, and, WRONG!
The gaps are occupied by air, of which nitrogen is 78%, and oxygen is just shy of 21%. Unfortunately for your mistaken theory, coco holds much more oxygen in it's capillaries that are readily usable by the plants. That is why Hempy CHANGED his recipe for Hempy buckets, replacing perlite with coco.
Someone needs to get up to speed before dispensing bad advice. Maybe if you read what Hempy actually said, you would have a better understanding:

As far as your statement that "The heat can lead to complications more easily in coco .
Perlite is a lot easier to manage for inexperienced growers", well, that is just bunk. There is nothing complicated about coco. Buy a premium brand, like Canna, which is pre-washed and pre-charged, and has trichoderma, which the roots love, means no problems whatsoever. Just pour it out of the bag and use it. As far as blaming your mistaken statements on "dumbing it down" for the readers, well, that is pretty lame. If you are not going to take the time to give a proper response, then don't respond at all. Disinformation is not helpful.

If you are such an intelligent resourceful person why have you come on this site posing general questions that could easily be answered with a little research. Asking in such a way that makes you look both young and impatient and then insulting members that make an attempt to help you, despite the fact that I encouraged you to answer your own questions and discouraged IC members from helping you. I did this because I anticipated this type of reaction from you. Typical spoiled american young entitled etc. You fit the bill. Go ahead and insult me all you want. I am actually intelligent and would prefer if you do insult me at least try and be creative. :dance013:

fuck, wish this had been posted weeks ago..no biggie thou been cold in grow room so hempys are slow as shit right now, just put heating mat under them 24 hrs ago.

is it to late for me to grab some coco and transplant or exchange the perlite/vermiculite mix out? my hempys are 2 liter bottles 3/1 perlite to vermiculite. 2 of them are 3/1 per/verm with hydroton res.

It can be done. All depends how big your root system is. You can wash the perlite off with a hose after carefully pulling plant out of container, and then transplant to coco, preferably Canna.

G`day Noydie

Well when temps rise above 30 c perlite insulates better .
This I know from personal exp .

I prefer coco , but as I found out if it gets hot it can bite your bottom ...

Is there anywhere addressing the idea of rooting/cloning directly into a little mini-hempy? In other words, straight into perlite/vermiculite without rockwool?
I was thinking maybe a little pop bottle or something.
I'm sure someone has tried it, but I can't find it in any threads with search, so...
Anyone seen it or done it or heard of it?

howdy troops, never noticed anything mentioned about say= top of plant temp say 28c
floor top of pot temp=say 22c or so plants about 3 to 4 ft tall,=hum 60to70. I have gauges in all places just enough to give me the shits lol, but interesting could be the 6'' incoming air blowing on floor, any way they seem to be ok, but was maybe expecting a higher temp at bucket top??

On a serious note, I didn't understand that post at all.
Is there a question in there somewhere?

 no problem really, just wondering about the diff in canopy temp to pot area temp on floor. being a difference from say 28c at top and 22 24 at floor. just found a floor fan not running, problem fixed temp has evened out nicely.
