The Official Hempy Bucket Thread

Sorry for the lack of pictures to back this up but I have to say a couple things. First, I want to thank the members that contribute to this site and specifically this Hempy thread for making my bountiful harvest more easily attained. 2nd, I am not one to brag but that is part of what I'm going to do.

Here's the deal: I hit 1+ GPW. I hit 1+ GPW by doing very, very little daily maintenance/upkeep. I hit 1+ GPW by just watering with Maxibloom at .5 tsp per gallon of water as needed. No other additives or pH adjusting and I hit 1+ GPW anyway. Minimal pruning and trimming (just a little training), minimal nutrient preparation, minimal attention given in general, and I still hit 1+ GPW. 3 plants, 2 harvested at 10 weeks and one harvested at 11 weeks, under 360 watts of HPS yielded 380 grams. AND, environmental conditions weren't ideal. Temp was too high with humidity too low for 3 weeks in the middle of flowering, and I still hit 1+ GPW.

I attribute the surprising success to the grow method: Hempy style. It is so forgiving and so low maintenance that, combined with freezer curing, it has allowed me to pull the finest buds from an operation that requires minimal effort.

So thank you icmag.com, I hope to be singing your praises for many harvests to come!

Congrats man that's a real success story right there. I love 1 gpw grows. How many plants did you grow in the run and what size buckets did you use? What was the strain? Sounds like you had a great gene there man.

Re: The Official Hempy Bucket Thread

Have to disagree with that. I am getting much bigger yields watering daily in 2 gallon pots than I got watering/feeding every 3 days in 5 gallon pots. The daily watering/feeding gives the plants hydro roots, and the growth rate is much more explosive due to fresh solution (oxygen) to the roots. This is in coco, with chunky perlite rez. The daily watering is much like using a drip system. The plants love fresh solution/oxygen. Easy enough to check. On your next run, try the daily watering/feeding on some pots, and see the difference.
At least that's how it has worked for me after many hempy runs.

I was emphasizing on the beginning part of veg. When you xplant to your final container it is very important to allow them to dry out so the roots "seek" for water. I have noticed thiz last run that feeding/watering daily in the bloom room makes for great growth. We cut back to every 3 days and saw a decrease in growth. So i was talking more about during veg. I agree 100 percent with your comment. In the bloom cycle.

Good afternoon fellow hempy bucket users! i have a question regarding the recent transplanting of clones from my bubble cloner to beercup hempy buckets:

Im using Bcuzz coco and a perlite res and I recently rooted 4 clones and placed them into beer cup hempy buckets. I want to veg them for just a few weeks to strengthen roots then flip em. I fed with 1/4 strength nutes PHd down to 5.8 until a little came of the res hole. Its been 2 days now since i put the clones in the beer hempy buckets and the coco still seems awfully moist (to the point where i havent watered it because its still wet on the top)....i tilt the beercup a little and water comes out the res hole (which i expect because the roots cant nearly be to the res hole yet) I am curious if im doing something incorrectly, or will the coco stay that moist initially? As soon as the roots are stronger im going to be potting up to a 2.5 gal bucket.

thanks in advance

Sam ... thats one slick set up with the drains on the buckets & the shelves :tiphat:

i would tilt cup and drain water out, let coco dry out abit, theres not enough root structure in there to suck it up, let roots go searching for moisture at bottom, dont saturate the medium= coco is very forgiving, when breaking young ones into new small pot i just trikkle water =light feed down sides, no saturation, iuse clear cups can see water in cup and roots growing.

 sizes i use, clear cup holes in bottom.
clear into black.
next big size is 1.5l.
when vegged to what ya reckon is a fair thing, 1.5 almost puts your rooted beauty ladys at resivoir level, couple days boom up she comes. when first put in 9l bucket just lightly feed down sides ,dont flood the fuker lol , you will get the hang of it in no time, easy as.:tiphat: that probe is cheap water moisture meter,i use it all the time, when you get the hang of it just lifting the pot, pulling sideways etc you can feel if it needs a feed. as hempy said '' keep it simple stoner''' kiss.

just tilted the cups and let it all drain out. The tops of the beercups are still rather damp after 2 days without watering from the initial transplant.....almost look like wet coffee grounds. Temps are not too hot as I have them under 6 23w CFLs so perhaps the coco isnt drying out as fast due to that. i suppose ill just let the coco dry out a bit before watering again....i presume i might have water logged the coco (if thats even feasible)

Also, i took a little coco from the top of the beercup and pinched it....a little water drained out.....and this is after 4 days. im worried my medium is TOO saturated

Hey hempy-users!

What are you starting your seeds/clones in? I went with rockwool, but seeing some potential problems down the line since I'm not using an automated watering system.

I start right in the mini hempy cups. Fill up to the hole with perlite, then top up with coco or perlite/vermiculite mix. Keep it good and moist.

I'm going with straight perlite. Does it work to start seeds and clones in that as well?

I need to find non-transparent cups here in europre... ><

It's better to add vermiculite with the perlite. Vermiculite holds water and nutes better than perlite. In fact I have germinated seeds in straight vermiculite with success.

That's not to say you can't use straight perlite. It'll work, you just need to water more often.

As for cups, the 16 oz red beer cups work great.

I do not start my seeds in perlite but I do clone exclusively in it. I have tried many other ways of cloning and for me straight perlite is by far the best. It takes a little longer in perlite, but for me that is not a big issue.

I would only add vermiculite if you are not able to water that often. I like to try and feed as often as I can. When I mix in vermiculite it takes forever for newly transplanted plants into 5 gallon buckets to dry out.

Rockwool is totally compatible with Hempy Buckets. The little 1X1 size.
1 vote for rockwool.
