Thanks for the heads-up Chronic. Will have to go look for that one.
I found those retractable hooks at Lowes. Really I called and asked for the Item number and Name. It's bad when you can direct an associate to where you saw them, over the phone. "Adjust-a-hook" Item #8640 for 12.86$us I checked the Lowe's website and they didn't come up. If your interested, Guess you'll just have to call and ask if they have them. Buying the other things off the net is a better deal though.
Hi Simon,I am trying to put a box together and could use your help.Cost is no problem,I just want to do it right the first time.I plan to use the mills pride that is 48''x19''72''. I plan for the cab to be in a bedroom and to leave the bedroom door open for air circulation,so stealth and quietness are crucial as well as odor.I have central heat and air and the themostat will be set at 68f for the heat in the winter,so ambient temperatures should be around this.I plan to use a digital ballast, but cannot decide between a 400w,600w,or two 250w,I am worried that if I use 500 to 600 watts that I will overheat the room that the cab is in or that the size fan required will be too loud for stealth.I would like to use cooltubes and a carbon filter.Should I exhaust my light seperately and then just exhaust the growspace through a carbon filter,or exhaust both through the filter.I could really use your help regarding size, brand, and placement and setup of equipment. Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks, GreenAcres.

you deff goin to have issues with heat with a 600, although they are better. i have a 400hps in mine and still have heat issues in the summer. i have my box in the garage so thats why. 2 250hps would put of more heat and be less efficiant than the 400. i use a 265cfm cage fan, and it is alittle noisy, but when i put my scrubber on it it becomes allmost silent. i just run a small fan, or radio to cover the noise. now if the smell becomes a problem for you(that carbon doesn't last forever) i put a 5 gallon of water with about a cup of PINESOL with an air stone in my garage and wholla it smells so fresh and so clean clean, plus it's cheap and very effective. hope this helps alittle,,,,,,,dwtc
HashAssasin...got off my lazy ass and checked out your Flo gro....lookin' good my brutha!
dwtc...nice cab....yer gonna have to grow some short-assed plants!...lol..."like a skunk got beat to death with some lemons"...hahaha!...love that...
Ordinary Joe...howdy my southern brotha...that 'pvc tube' that holds my clip fans is actually a high quality shower curtain rod from Home DePot...I made sure to buy the most expensive one they had and it was worth it, very strong and durable, and hasn't shown a single bit of rust so far. I'm not running any clip fans at the moment, because the plants are so tiny and the enviro is quite ideal right now. But, I have two on stand-by that can be put into action (that can be clipped on top and bottom) just in case.
And speakin' of Home DePot...they are sure lookin' out for us growers...hot deals on grow cabs at the beginning of the grow season..."you can do it, we can help"...lol...
Well, I've had to reconfig my C13 once again. The heater kept running continuously due to the cold temps I've been getting. It's been as low as 43 in the shed and the Vortex kept bringing a bunch of cold air into the cab. I decided to put my other thermostat in the C13 that kicks on the Vortex when temps rise too much, so I have two therms now, one connected to the heater and one that kicks on the Vortex. So, now that I've done that, I also decided to abandon the air-cool idea, removed the fittings, glass, and ducting from the hood, so I can use the heat from the 250 hps to help keep things nice and warm and comfy for the babies. This is basically how I ran successfully last time. When an old tried-and-true idea ain't broke, folks, don't fix it. But, experimenting is fun, and that's what we all love doing with these cabs.
Nice scoop on the c22's ChronicNewf, I will have to check myself. Never can not enough closets.
"" Some people are dying to come out of the closet and I just wanna stay in mine ""
OrdinaryJoe, I think those other ones are sturdier, but I will have to look around.
I am not personally using any yet, but they might be good for others.
WOW, the C13 box is 162lbs,,,,, I feel better now, when I lugged it around, I thought man, Im out of shape. My setup is actually 2 x C13 boxes, back to back.
I picked up an Adust-a-hook for my little cabinet, it's like a small town, blink and you'll miss it. I had my light fall and burn up some seedlings so I have been rethinking my light holder. Hasn't fallen in years but I had to go messing with it. The Adjustahook seems to like heavier objects hanging from it, I'll just have to see.
This little cabinet did have a 70w hps do to size and I upgraded to a 150 in the same cabinet. I should have done it a long time ago, as the 150 seems to run cooler than the 70. Just by a few degrees.
Edit: The lowering of the cabinet temperature was probably affected by adding a larger vent to the cabby. I only ran a couple days before replacing the light. Also the adjustavent has a little less than a 2 pound pull. Therefore whatever it is holding up must weight 2 pounds or more. If it weights less, it will get pulled upward and stay there. 15 lbs maximum usage. If two (or more) are used, double the figures. The Adjustahook line is 40" long.
My light weights less than 2 lbs so I have to do something else.
Edit 2. I do believe a 150 runs cooler than 70. the 70 kept the temps 6 degrees or more higher and the 150 is only running 2 degrees hotter than ambiant.
Chronic Newfie nice cab. Of course you will need venting. The vent out where the filter is would not have to be light proof completely. The intake near the floor in the grow space will have to be completely light proof. You are losing a third of your floor grow space with this configuration making it no more productive than a c13 which I have. You know your specific needs but if quantity matters I would try to put fan and filter up top. I believe width brings bigger yields than height. Although I use all the height of my c13 often growing trees because I am height heavy and short on width.
hey chronic nice cab. i'm gonna have to agree with sumo about the space. also you need to vent that ballast, they get hot and you deff don't want a fire. if you vented the scrubber and ballast together you would kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
Good observations on the adjust the hook idea OrdinaryJoe!!!!
Chronic , export the ballast out of the box, too much heat.
HEAT rises, You could flip the scrubber/fan up and gain the valuable real estate space and have 2 more plants growing bro. I have the fan/scrubber up top in my dual c13 setup and the temps are perfect.
HashAssasin, I noticed while the Adjustahook was still in the package, there was a clear plastic thing that attached to the line to keep it from retracting. You could use the same thing or something like it (clothes pin) to keep your reflector at a desired height. Anything that could attach to the line and stop the line from being pulled in. I am sure this could be worded better but my mind just isn't putting it together.
Im wondering when I should start flowering. The top half of c25 my cab is the filter, fan, ballast and hood and the bottom half is the grow space. A foot of the bottom of the cab is devoted to the containers. This leaves me with about 2 feet of vertical space. My plants are 2 weeks old and around 5"s tall. Theres 8 plants, but they havent been sexed, a11s and c99s. When would you initiate flowering? At what height?
This is my first grow, as you can probably tell.
I want to take clones. I know its best to take clones in veg, but is it ok to take clones during the stretch period in early flower? If the plants get too big, is it ok to just chop the entire top portion of the plant off?
I managed to cram an air cooled glass hood in there for my 400w, so the plants can get close.
Another decision im having a hard time making is whether or not i should transplant from 1 gallon to 2 gallon containers. They are in plastic milk jugs and I was going to place them on top of another jug. Is 1 gallon enough for a 2 1/2' tall plant? I dont know whats more important.
