I didn't go after him at all.

BTW, I turn off EVERY black comedian that uses the word n i g g e r in his act.
If you can't entertain me w/o using a word that is despicable then you aren't smart enough to be allowed in my home.

N I G G E R was a word used lynch mobs and was the very last word thousands of innocent black americans heard as they were either hung or burned alive. That word has a place in history, NOT in popular music or comedy....... not w/o a certain amount of reverence or respect attached to it.

Stoner4Life I understand your point, rap is not for everybody. But what you see on tv is not what all rap is about. some of it but not all of it.
And there are prob to reasons the thread started got so defensive

1. This is a thread for rap, if you dont like rap, then you prob shouldnt be in this thread.

2. hip-hop to some is more than just music its a culture, its an escape. And when you disrespect someones culture, they get offended and punch back.

Kind of keep that in mind im not saying everybody should love rap but what you see on tv does not define the art. peace out

woah, this thread has gotten out of control... true, there are those stuck in the monotony of money, coke, rims, and hoes, and yea, thats what the mainstream plays b/c they think they know whats hot and whats not.... fuck half the bullshit thats out there right now anyways, hiphop, rap, r & b, country... nothin is really new, its just the same re-hashed technique done over.... i listen to music for the beats, the instrumentals, fuck the words, half the time people aint saying shit thats means shit in the first place... now some, if you actually listen, have a message in their songs.... true the ignorant can get caught up in the repetition of bitch and n i g g a this and that, just like the ignorant can get caught up in the ooo shit i got 24 inch rims i must be pimpin bitches awww snaps... when it comes down to it, if you dont like it, change the station.... stoner4life open to his opinion, and i can understand where hes coming from, but not ALL rap/hiphop is like that, just what is heard is all the same due to the marketing strategies of the record companies...

Well, I'm an old guy and really not into rap, but there's one old classic no one has mentioned. Still the best (and close to the first, I think) rap ever:

The message:

(e.fletcher, s.robinson, c.chase, m.glover -
Sugarhill records 82)

It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under

Broken glass everywhere
People pissin' on the stairs, you know they just don't care
I can't take the smell, can't take the noise
Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice
Rats in the front room, roaches in the back
Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat
I tried to get away but I couldn't get far
'cuz a man with a tow truck repossessed my car

Don't push me 'cuz I'm close to the edge
I'm trying not to lose my head
Uh huh ha ha ha
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under

Standin' on the front stoop hangin' out the window
Watchin' all the cars go by, roarin' as the breezes blow
Crazy lady, livin' in a bag
Eatin' outta garbage pails, used to be a fag hag
Said she'll dance the tango, skip the light fandango
A Zircon princess seemed to lose her senses
Down at the peep show watchin' all the creeps
So she can tell her stories to the girls back home
She went to the city and got social security
She had to get a pimp, she couldn't make it on her own

Don't push me 'cuz I'm close to the edge
I'm trying not to lose my head
Uh huh ha ha ha

It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under

My brother's doin' bad, stole my mother's TV
Says she watches too much, it's just not healthy
"All My Children" in the daytime, "Dallas" at night
Can't even see the game or the Sugar Ray fight
The bill collectors, they ring my phone
and scare my wife when I'm not home
Got a bum education, double-digit inflation
Can't take the train to the job, there's a strike at the station
Neon King Kong standin' on my back
Can't stop to turn around, broke my sacroiliac
A mid-range migraine, cancered membrane
Sometimes I think I'm goin' insane
I swear I might hijack a plane!

Don't push me 'cuz I'm close to the edge
I'm trying not to lose my head
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under

My son said, Daddy, I don't wanna go to school
'cuz the teacher's a jerk, he must think I'm a fool
And all the kids smoke reefer, I think it'd be cheaper
if I just got a job, learned to be a street sweeper
Or dance to the beat, shuffle my feet
Wear a shirt and tie and run with the creeps
'cuz it's all about money, ain't a damn thing funny
You got to have a con in this land of milk and honey
They pushed that girl in front of the train
Took her to the doctor, sewed her arm on again
Stabbed that man right in his heart
Gave him a transplant for a brand new start
I can't walk through the park 'cuz it's crazy after dark
Keep my hand on my gun 'cuz they got me on the run
I feel like a outlaw, broke my last glass jaw
Hear them say "You want some more?"
Livin' on a see-saw

Don't push me 'cuz I'm close to the edge
I'm trying not to lose my head
Say what?

It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under

It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under

It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under

A child is born with no state of mind
Blind to the ways of mankind
God is smilin' on you but he's frownin' too
Because only God knows what you'll go through
You'll grow in the ghetto livin' second-rate
And your eyes will sing a song called deep hate
The places you play and where you stay
Looks like one great big alleyway
You'll admire all the number-book takers
Thugs, pimps and pushers and the big money-makers
Drivin' big cars, spendin' twenties and tens
And you'll wanna grow up to be just like them, huh
Smugglers, scramblers, burglars, gamblers
Pickpocket peddlers, even panhandlers
You say I'm cool, huh, I'm no fool
But then you wind up droppin' outta high school
Now you're unemployed, all non-void
Walkin' round like you're Pretty Boy Floyd
Turned stick-up kid, but look what you done did
Got sent up for a eight-year bid
Now your manhood is took and you're a Maytag
Spend the next two years as a undercover fag
Bein' used and abused to serve like hell
'til one day, you was found hung dead in the cell
It was plain to see that your life was lost
You was cold and your body swung back and forth
But now your eyes sing the sad, sad song
Of how you lived so fast and died so young so...

Don't push me 'cuz I'm close to the edge
I'm trying not to lose my head
Uh huh huh huh huh

It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under
Huh, uh huh huh huh huh
It's like a jungle sometimes
It makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under
Huh, uh huh huh huh huh

I remember 1988 December
Someone said, "Puff on this before you go up in her"
So I did it and I guess it must have did the trick,
She enjoyed it so I guess I must have rocked the clit,
Felt like a man and I loved her with an indo trip,
Don't know why, cause I couldn't even feel my dick!
Ego trip lasted and I'm always gettin blasted, but it's drastic
cause sometimes that shit can help you get your ass kicked.
Can't buy it with plastic, so I'm off to drain the vein for days
I get complaints, cause the neighbors say my house stink.
Call myself a saint, cause I won't touch a bowl of food
I gives a fuck, just don't interrupt my Looney Tunes!
this afternoon cause I can find a job anytime..
Step off my behind, I'm in a Doobie Brothers state of mind
Run-D.M.C., AT&T, yo they both Be Illin'
I smoked that blunt for last month's three hundred dollar billin,
And I'm willing to admit that when provoked I smoke to cope,
but if I didn't take a toke I'd be leadin a street revolt,
So I make a mental note, and to my frustration,
I decide I can't do shit about the situation.
Put the spliff to my lips, flick the Bic and it's on hit
Coulda been my last blunt... but I can't quit!
cause then I have to deal with, Some motherfuckin real shit
Squeezin me tighter than you gotta squeeze a cow's tit,
But on the flip tip I know I gotta get a grip,
even though in high school he used to be hip

Lyrics from anti-weed "Last Blunt" By The Coup :D

Listen to the whole song here

There's a bunch of rap out there who never pimp hoes and shoot ppl for sneakers. Unless it's a parody of gangstas/getto ass part of the genre.

bizzy bone from his new album ruthless

""I know they wish for me to perish
Cause I dropped out of high school chasin the jewels with no credits
Flippin burgers, I just can't see it
A face smoke green with a triple beam in one night no secrets
Fuck them feds, it ain't no love at all for 'em
They pull me over with police dogs, look in my {*WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF*}
That's motive enough for murder!
I stand in the cut with tec 9's, burners ready to serve 'em
I'm in the rain, with the nine on my brain, blaow to police
and fuck the world! Fuck the whole wide world, America and all!"

this is by cunninilyguists.. songs called georgia

Georgia, My state my home
For 17 years learned right from wrong
Cried saline tears when i write these poems
As I made these fears give flight to song
The red clay stains the soles of my shoes
The red clay stained the soul of a fool
My grandparents told me the goal that you choose
When you realize the worlds only open to few
Will measure your worth, tether your hurt
Its that same search that can lead you to church
But if they have the time to hate a whole race
How do yall have the time to tel me about my faith?
Do ya'll have time to discuss God's grace
If youre too busy studying the color of a face?
I don't follow man to avoid the disgrace of
the closeminded culprits of southern mistakes
Glass houses built out of empty Coke bottles
Throwing rocks at statues of southern role models
Use to be followed by souls that are hollow
But had to much love to ever get swalloed
By the dark hearted people that threatened my kin
Spit on my friends for the color of their skin
So when i think back to the clay that raised me
I thank God for the strong man it made me

half the time people aint saying shit thats means shit in the first place...
i disagree, maybe that mainstream crap but a lot of rappers have great lyrical content that usually carries a message. listen to cunninlynguists.

When some get together and think of rap, they tend to think of violence
But when they are challenged on some rock group, the result is always silence
Even before the rock and roll era, violence played a big part in music
Its all according to your meaning of violence and how or in which way you use it
No, its not violent to show in movies the destruction of the human body
But yes, of course its violent to protect yourself at a party
And, oh no, its not violent when under the christmas tree is a look-alike gun
But, yes, of course its violent to have an album like krs-one
By all means necessary, its time to end the hypocrisy
What I call violence, I cant do , but your kind of violence is stopping me
By all means necessary, the rap audience must grow up
The same type of fightin we do, they do except weve got nothing to blow up
It doesn`t matter if you win or lose, its only how good you play the game
This is the oldest sneak attack, because it takes away our senses to gain
If all I do is play the game then I am just mediocre
We strive to be the best we can be, not to just get over
Some people say that life on a whole is serious and nothing is funny
Thats only if you base your life around competition and money
Yeah, Im making some money, hes making some money, but none of these things are necessities
What I find to be a necessity is controlling a positive destiny
With this, money, fame, glory and credit will come in time
The people down with me know this every minute they hear me sayin rhymes
I got some friends, I got some allies like stet, and big daddy kane
They know that by all means necessary that peace is the name of this game
Whether peace by war, or peace by peace, the reality of peace is scary
But we must get there, one way or another, by all means necessary.

Just waking up in the morning gotta thank god
I dont know but today seems kinda odd
No barking from the dogs, no smog
And momma cooked a breakfast with no hog
I got my grub on, but didnt pig out
Finally got a call from a girl wanna dig out
Hooked it up on later as I hit the do
Thinking will I live, another twenty-fo
I gotta go cause I got me a drop top
And if I hit the switch, I can make the ass drop
Had to stop at a red light
Looking in my mirror not a jacker in sight
And everything is alright
I got a beep from kim and she can fuck all night
Called up the homies and Im askin yall
Which court, are yall playin basketball?
Get me on the court and Im trouble
Last week fucked around and got a triple double
Freaking brothers everyway like m.j.
I cant believe, today was a good day

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg said:
Still Snoop Dogg and D-R-E (Guess who's back)
Still, still doing that shit, right?

[Dr. Dre]
Oh for sure, check me out
It's still Dre Day, A.K.
Before I chrome the lot, can't keep it home a lot
'cause when I frequent the spots that I'm known to rock
You hear the bass from the trunk when I'm on the block
Ladies, they pay homage, but haters say Dre fell off
How? My last album was "The Chronic"
They want to know if he still got it
They say rap's changed, they want to know how I feel about it

[Snoop - singing]
If you ain't up on pace

[Dr. Dre]
Dr. Dre is the name, I'm ahead of my game
Still, puffing my leafs, still with the beats
Still not loving police (Uh huh)
Still rock my khakis with a cuff and a crease
Still got love for the streets, repping 213
Still the beat bangs, still doing my thang
Since I left, ain't too much changed, still

[Chorus:]
[Snoop Dogg]
I'm representing for them gangsters all across the world
Still hitting them corners in them low low's girl
[Dr. Dre]
Still taking my time to perfect the beat
And I still got love for the streets, it's the D-R-E [Repeat 2x]

Since the last time you heard from me I lost some friends
Well, hell, me and Snoop, we dipping again
Kept my ear to the streets, signed Eminem
He's triple platinum, doing 50 a week
Still, I stay close to the heat
And even when I was close to defeat, I rose to my feet
My life is like a soundtrack I wrote to the beat
Treat my rap like Cali weed, I smoke till I sleep
Wake up in the A.M., compose a beat
I bring the fire till you're soaking in your seat
It's not a fluke, it's been tried, I'm the troop
It's "Turn Out the Lights" from the World Class Wreckin' Cru
I'm still at it, After-mathematic
In the home of drivebys and ak-matics
Swap meets, sticky green, and bad traffic
I dip through then I get skin, D-R-E

[Chorus]

It ain't nothing but more hot shit
Another classic CD for y'all to vibe with
Whether you're cooling on a corner with your fly bitch
Laid back in the shack, play this track
I'm representing for the gangsters all across the world
(Still hitting them corners in them low low's girl)
I'll break your neck, damn near put your face in your lap
Try to be the king but the ace is back

[Snoop - singing]
So if you ain't up on thangs

[Dr. Dre]
Dr. Dre be the name still running the game
Still got it wrapped like a mummy
Still ain't tripping, love to see young blacks get money
Spend time out the hood, take they moms out the hood
Hit my boys off with jobs, no more living hard
Barbeques every day, driving fancy cars
Still gonna' get mine regardless

[Chorus x1.5]

[Snoop]
Like that, right back up in ya
'95 plus four pennies
Add that shit up, D-R-E right back on top of thangs
Smoke some with your dog
No stress, no seeds, no stems, no sticks!
Some of that real sticky icky
A little weed, put it in the air
For you's a fool D.R.

And of course Dr. Dre and snoop dogg. Westcoast classics. I especially like the last verse lol

From what might be the best hiphop album of all time.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UKjj4hk0pV4

Verse One: Nas

Rappers I monkey flip em with the funky rhythm I be kickin
Musician, inflictin composition
of pain I'm like Scarface sniffin cocaine
Holdin a M-16, see with the pen I'm extreme, now
Bulletholes left in my peepholes
I'm suited up in street clothes
Hand me a nine and I'll defeat foes
Y'all know my steelo with or without the airplay
I keep some E&J, sittin bent up in the stairway
Or either on the corner bettin Grants with the celo champs
Laughin at baseheads, tryin to sell some broken amps
G-Packs get off quick, forever niggaz talk shit
Remeniscing about the last time the Task Force flipped
Niggaz be runnin through the block shootin
Time to start the revolution, catch a body head for Houston
Once they caught us off guard, the Mac-10 was in the grass and
I ran like a cheetah with thoughts of an assassin
Pick the Mac up, told brothers, "Back up," the Mac spit
Lead was hittin niggaz one ran, I made him backflip
Heard a few chicks scream my arm shook, couldn't look
Gave another squeeze heard it click yo, my shit is stuck
Try to cock it, it wouldn't shoot now I'm in danger
Finally pulled it back and saw three bullets caught up in the chamber
So now I'm jetting to the building lobby
and it was filled with children probably couldn't see as high as I be
(So whatchu sayin?) It's like the game ain't the same
Got younger niggaz pullin the triggers bringing fame to they name
and claim some corners, crews without guns are goners
In broad daylight, stickup kids, they run up on us
Fo'-fives and gauges, Macs in fact
Same niggaz'll catch a back to back, snatchin yo' cracks in black
There was a snitch on the block gettin niggaz knocked
So hold your stash until the coke price drop
I know this crackhead, who said she gotta smoke nice rock
And if it's good she'll bring ya customers in measuring pots, but yo
You gotta slide on a vacation
Inside information keeps large niggaz erasin and they wives basin
It drops deep as it does in my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined
I think of crime when I'm in a New York state of mind

("New York state of mine" --> Rakim *repeat 4X*)

Verse Two: Nas

Be havin dreams that I'ma gangster -- drinkin Moets, holdin Tecs
Makin sure the cash came correct then I stepped
Investments in stocks, sewein up the blocks
to sell rocks, winnin gunfights with mega cops
But just a nigga, walking with his finger on the trigger
Make enough figures until my pockets get bigger
I ain't the type of brother made for you to start testin
Give me a Smith and Wessun I'll have niggaz undressin
Thinkin of cash flow, buddah and shelter
Whenever frustrated I'ma hijack Delta
In the P.J.'s, my blend tape plays, bullets are strays
Young bitches is grazed each block is like a maze
full of black rats trapped, plus the Island is packed
From what I hear in all the stories when my peoples come back, black
I'm livin where the nights is jet black
The fiends fight to get crack I just max, I dream I can sit back
and lamp like Capone, with drug scripts sewn
Or the legal luxury life, rings flooded with stones, homes
I got so many rhymes I don't think I'm too sane
Life is parallel to Hell but I must maintain
and be prosperous, though we live dangerous
cops could just arrest me, blamin us, we're held like hostages
It's only right that I was born to use mics
and the stuff that I write, is even tougher than dice
I'm takin rappers to a new plateau, through rap slow
My rhymin is a vitamin, Hell without a capsule
The smooth criminal on beat breaks
Never put me in your box if your shit eats tapes
The city never sleeps, full of villians and creeps
That's where I learned to do my hustle had to scuffle with freaks
I'ma addict for sneakers, twenties of buddah and bitches with beepers
In the streets I can greet ya, about blunts I teach ya
Inhale deep like the words of my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
I lay puzzle as I backtrack to earlier times
Nothing's equivalent, to the new york state of mind

young noble off the tupac song hail mary

"Peep the whole scene and whatever's going on around me
Brain kinda cloudy, smoked out feeling rowdy
Ready to wet the party up, and whoever in that motherfucker
Nasty new street, slugger my heat seeks suckers
on the regular mashing in a stolen black Ac Integ-ra
Cock back, sixty seconds 'til the draw that's when I'm dead in ya
Feet first, you got a nice gat but my heat's worse
From a Thug to preaching church, I gave you love now you eating dirt
Needing work, and I ain't the nigga to put you on
Cause word is bond when I was broke I had to hustle 'til dawn
That's when sun came up, there's only one way up
hold ya head and stay up, to all my niggas get ya pay and weight up"

time for some necro lyrics... from the song scalpel

You're stabbed up with a scalpel
(a scalpel)
Stabbed up with a scalpel
(you're gettin cut, you're gettin cut, YOU'RE GETTIN CUT)
You're stabbed up with a scalpel
Cut through your adam's apple, kid you're baffled
(baffled, gettin cut)

Yo I'm packin scalpels
I stole em from the hospital
I gots to kill
If you step representin this gospel
Killin me is mission impossible
There's many weapons
Machetes and buck knives will slice through intestines
WHAT I'll cut open a gut like butter
It comes from the family of the buzz cutter
The scalpel - the surgery master
Lacerating brains and tissue
How I do it remains the issue
I'm in a doctors office getting a checkup
He leaves the room so I start searchin through drawers
I find test tubes and gauze
Blood deposits and gore
And hypodermic needles galore - just what I'm lookin for
Paraphenelia for movies
Grab a couple scalpels to pack up my baseball cap
In case you try to remove me from EARTH
Remove the beauty from your face - til you feel disgraced
Walkin in public like you got a leprosy case

[Hook with variation x1]
You're stabbed up with a scalpel
(a scalpel)
Stabbed up with a scalpel
(You're gettin sliced, you're gettin sliced, YOU'RE GETTIN SLICED)
You're stabbed up with a scalpel
Cut through your adam's apple, kid you're baffled
(baffled, gettin cut, gettin cut cut cut)

It's logical I rap violently, you know I hate you so die for me
Sadistics how it ought to be, carve you like a creature
(slice)
Get my pack up, runnin ablaze
Yo son you're destined to die - with the crew you're with
Right between your eyes - I STAB UP YOUR INSIDES
Your blood is trickling down
Drip, drop, SLICE
You're running - your pace is picking up
Your face is dripping blood - I'm coming
You're screaming - nobody hears you like you're dreaming
The scalpel is right behind you - ready to slice you uneven
My name is scalpel - I cut open the filthiest people
In the hands of doctors that are evil
Doctors that abuse the use of needles
Doctors that use me to rip flesh when they didn't need to
They use me for autopsies on dead bodies
The morticians got me in his hand constantly
I'm his man for atrocities
They call me in to rip open the flesh
To find out the cause of DEATH

[Last hook and variation x1]
You're stabbed up with a scalpel
(a scalpel)
You're stabbed up with a scalpel
(you're gettin cut, you're gettin cut)
You're stabbed up with a scalpel
Cut through your adam's apple (bitch) kid you're baffled
You're stabbed up with a scalpel
(stabbed up with a scalpel, gettin stabbed gettin stabbed up with a scalpel)
Gettin CUT CUT CUT
You're stabbed up with a scalpel, bitch
