I am who I am coz I is who I is.
Just finally got my sproutling into the coco, and gave it its first water, i now see why alot of people find coco abit hard, its got not much water retention,
will it hold water more once plants root system is bigger and is drinking alot faster,

Can you give me an estimate on how much i should be feeding during diff stages
EG, sproutling, veg, flowering. or do i just go off how much i see its drinking at the time, guessing that all plants probally have their own thirst levels.

Sorry for so many questions, 1st time coco user.

Cheers Afro. :D

Have noticed the same thing when transplanting into too big of a pot at first. However, also noticed (this is imoe) that even tho after transplant into bigger pot you should still feed daily. In essence this is hand fed hydro. Every time you feed they will recieve fresh nutes and fresh oxygen which promote fast root and plant growth. I have trays to catch run off, and even if next day they do not need it still am giving them enuff to fill those trays. Only takes about a week for me and they will be eating alot and be almost dry when you go back in. Don't take long at all man, roots love coco. Hope this helps.

Cheers justin helps alot, i keep forgetting coco is a medium so that it does drain fast, but also growths and drinks in proportion to this :D.
Cant wait till my little baby starts shooting off.
Reminds me ive only been feeding plain water while its so small, might mix up a 1/4 str nute solution from now on.

i strongly recomend CANNA coco and HESI coco nute series. its by far the best in my experience.

the other products we use are:
supervit HESI
Rhizotonic CANNA
PK 13-14 CANNA

peace

Hi bonecarver. Do you still recommend mixing Hesi & Canna nutrients?
Why not go all with Hesi? i.e. Hesi PK 13/14, Hesi Supervit, Hesi TNT complex etc.

Although, am thinking it depends upon which nutes you are using. When I do 1st transplant of rooted (in 1 inch rockwool cubes) cuts/seedlings into coco am using canna A&B I am at about 1/2 str veg nutes from the get go. Only like 4 ml A&B at ppm of 500-ish. I do not know what you are using for nutes, but would suggest giving them at least 1/4 str nutes from get go because coco has nothing in it...

or at least you hope it has nothing in it.

Hi All! Really great thread, i'm loving it! I'm a first time coco grower, and i must say....beautiful growth!

I'm using a 50/50 coco & perlite mixture. I was using a weak nute solution and watering 1ce a day. Then i switched to the Lucas formula 3part (bloom, micro and calmag) feeding twice a day (morning and lunch) and my babies boomed. But i was wondering since I was using the perlite in the mixture, making it more pourous, should i water more often? Cause they look like they love it when i water!

And is one liter per one gallon pot too much or too little?

one liter per gallon sounds ok, but it depends how much your plants use...

Thery're still quite small 4-6 weeks from seed, so it seems sufficient i was just worried i'm overwatering them!

is two waterings ok or can they take a third? 'Cause the water drains really fast, probably cause of the perlite, so i'm wondering if i can increase? or will i be pushing it?

By the way BoneCarver_OG, this site and particularly this thread has inspired me to get growing, so thank you, and keep spreading the word:thank you:!

I'm gonna toke one you!

Greetings from Africa!

Hello guys,

Planning my next grow with coco hempy buckets, just wondering if I can use coco nutes like canna coco a&b or if I should stick to the GH formula?

thanks a lot

I have left over GH from my flood tray. No reason to waste it. Plus I can get it cheap from a grow shop 2 miles away. I'll stick with GH, which has been really consistant for me over the years.

The hummingbirds should be here soon!

After my clones are rooted into 4" pots, I pot up into the pots I'm going to flower in, with full strength 0-6-9 GH nutes and 4-5ml Cal Mag.

IME fresh new coco (I use Canna) actually grabs a lot of the nutes. When I used 1/4 or 1/2 strength nutes I instantly got deficiencies, plants would yellow up almost overnight.

I usually use 2-3ml Botanicare Cal-Mag with 0-6-9 GH nutes, but JUST for the pot-up, I use 0-6-9 with extra Cal-Mag at 4-5ml/gal. Plants always hit the ground running, never ever burned even one from too strong of food.
