hey can anyone tell me weather i should ph my water during flushing???? hope thats not too dumb a question!

not a dunb question... my experience/palatte has taught me "PH @ ALL TIMES!"

i think its a 'cleaner' flush.... fi that makes sense

thanks guys much apreciated! got some nice froot loop skunk and its smelling perfect, also just wanted to say that i smoked a tester yesterday one bong and had a three hour whitey,never had one in all my days,not realy keen to hit it up again kind of scared me.

an how much water should i give them in 5 gal buckets 1 or 2 gal

Always try to get SOME run-off. ~20% is great if you can waste the water.
5 gal buckets I would say will need about 2 gallons to get fed and run-off, but thats relative depending on: how dry the medium has become, what phase the plant cycle is in, how large the plant is, current lunar phase..etc.

When I water with non salt nutrients I usually water till I just see run off, like just a tiny bit. If I'm using something that contains salts I usually alternate with water and get more run off to avoid to much salt build up.

JACK THE RIPPER coco coir vs soil.

This last two weeks coco coir has grown larger fan leaves than her sister in soil. In side elevation coco coir appears to be larger, plan view soil appears to be larger. I think coco coir is catching up and will end up yielding more. Which looks healthier to you?

unless the lighting or colors are off in the first pic, the soil plant(left) looks more lush and deeper green.

I wouldn't worry too much. It should raise in the next day or so as the nutes absorb. Check it tomorrow and go from there. I try to water and nute at 5.6.

KNNA on coco runoff and flushing:

It's of limited value only when the excess is of cations, and very specially, Ca. Due the high CEC, pH and EC of runoff may be very misleading, and it shouldn't be used as reference. Adjust the watering solution and forget the runoff, as it's figures may be much higher than those measured in other mediums without any problems for the plants. Flushing works perfect against a excess of N (NO3-) or P. But if the problem is excess Ca, then flushing wont solve the problem, it willl just help a bit and may aggravate other problems induced for excess Ca. K, still being uptaken as cation, is easily flushed too. But Mg and Ca excesses don't respond well to flushing. Both get bonded to over 90% of total coco colloids in normal conditions, so keeping an equilibrium between the two is the key when growing in coco.

the hydroton works well in the botom - also does broken ceramic pieces and even washed gravel.

many times i break some cheap old pots to put in the bottom before i put the coco in.

diotomacious earth (higromite) works well, too, a little layer on the top keeps gnats in check too.

Hey everyone I am fairly new to coco and I am interested growing my girls in straight coco next time around. I have heard that coco has pretty good drainage. Does it have enough drainage so that it would be unnecessary to amended it with perlite or coco croutons? I have seen that some people add perlite when doing ebb and flow, or drip system, ect. I however will probably just be doing a top feed and I would hate for the coco to dry out to fast If i amended it with perlite or croutons.

Basically my question is this. Does straight coco with no amendments provide sufficient drainage?

Hi!

You dont need to blend your coco. And if you want different texture in your coco just change coco brand. Canna for example is really fine. And coco bounce is the opposite.

i use canna coco straight from the bag, i water once a day untill runoff ph 5.8 and ec 1.6 never more than 2.0. stay lucky

Straight coco in pots raised 3 inches off the catching trays with a short wick to assist draining the perched water table They`re into their third week of 9 flowering and all except for a couple of my 14 plants are needing 2ltrs to give enough run-off ie.20-40%. My nutes are running at ec1.5 ph5.9.

Does 2ltrs sound like a lot for plants in 12-14ltr pots. Its like 28ltrs per day for the 14 plants.

They were running off with 1.5ltrs till a couple of days ago.
