i pulled all my LA cons b/c they went to flower and then were just stuck in that revert mode for so long i said "bye bye" and just replaced them and all the replacements have caught up almost. You can tell if its trying to revert from actually being in flower mode or if its just preflower. Preflower shouldnt make the top of the budsites turn into nuggets, there should always be leaves as your new growth on the tips during veg not clumps of pistals, the preflowers pistals are just at the nodes

Yeah I agree.
When you put them outdoors, depending on the strain, age of the plant and the amount of daylight hours that are present when you put them out, has an impact of when they start preflowering. Most will try and reveg but some have a more difficult time than others.
Usually the sativa/hydrids that have been vegging for months will start preflowering and this cycle can be extended for a long period of time before they actually go into true flowering stage.

Another good indication of whether they are in true flowering stage is the leaf blade count will start to decline.
When plants are first growing the leaf count gradually increases until the plant strain has reached it's genetic potential before flowering. Most of this depends on the strain itself but they can stay in preflower stage for a long time without concern. Its normal.

When a plant is in true flowering stage, that blade counts decreases so you start seeing sets of fives, then threes, sometimes even single leaf blade counts.
Some strains revert back better than others but this stage can really be stretched out for a long period of time where the plant will start to flower , gradually go back to veg stage but then switch back. Yeah it confuses the plant some but most can handle this just fine.

I have one like 'the jointedone' mentioned that just didn't quite make it back into veg cycle and I have wondered myself what to do with her. She is also one that shouldn't have been topped so vigorously as she is too bushy and doesn't allow for enough air circulation so I now have to pull some branches down or this one will be a prime target for bud rot or other infestations.
I'm going to keep her around if only for the learning experience.
I personally think it might have to do with the fact that the strain has equitorial heritage. We'll see what happens.

Good luck to you localhero
Great question!

I only start to use nutes for flowering when they are in true flowering stage.

Tom advised that 5grams of MycoStop is sufficient to treat 12 big plants.

Oi, Tom. Lookit you go.

I'm also having the problem, where it looks like a plant or two of mine are starting to flower, so I really hope it shouldn't be a problem
did I see that I should just feed them light flower nutes?

Thanks Straintester!

Since we're showing off big ones...

This plant is from a seed found in a bag of O3 Kush purchased at Vapor Room in San Francisco. Biggest leaves I've ever had on a plant. It's only three feet tall so far.

My LA is doing the same. I cant bring Myself to pull Her. Shes in a 380 gallon hole though, so Im gonna put a sweetTooth, x18, a 4SD and a GDP around her in the same hole, just in case I have to do as You did. My Son says leave it alone, its comming back into veg now, so Ill wait for now

OMG Tom, breathtaking really. Thank you for sharing your secrets with us all!

One that I was wondering about Tom, is your watering method for outdoor big pots. I dont mean all the very specific irrigation baloney that is different for every property...more the "water the middle to outside and leave the center dry" kinda info. It is tricky and I have shot myself in the foot a few times this season trying watering OD for the first time. Heh, I cant exactly do the "lift the pot" method like indoors.

I am sorry if it was covered in another thread, I will happily go there if directed. I believe the roots determine everything above ground, and you sir have a very special way of treating the root zone in watering the early part of the plant cycle.

I am using your soil mix this season as well, thank you. Awesome thread.

So I got out to the land today and everything is looking just fine.. These plants seem to love Tom's recipe because I don't see one sign of deficiency and everything is a nice lush green so far.. I got a couple pics (had more but a lot turned out blurry) but they won't look that impressive since they're all tied down and it's hard to get a perspective.. grass has grown up all around it so we lifted up the cattle panel and weed-wacked all of them so they have a nice little short-cut lawn to grow on.. they are about impossible to see from any distance over 15 feet away or so.. the pasture has grown up nicely around it.. In these pics nothing is over maybe 18" high but about 4-5 of them are about 6 feet long by 4 feet wide now.. Some are quite a bit smaller, and some just apparently don't like being outside at all.. They're probably 1/4 the size of our biggest.. But this was somewhat expected since we have no experience with any of these strains outside.. SWT #3 started flowering as soon as we put it out june first and the main cola started budding pretty heavily but has stalled.. It's in the one picture where you can see the main cola a bit.. the rest of the plant though doesn't have much budding, just that main cola for some reason.. Regardless if we go again next year SWT #3 will not be put out for that reason.. Our LUIxF13, and Sour DieselxNL#5 are by far the most vigorous.. The C99s are hit and miss.. Some look beautiful and a couple just aren't growing that fast for whatever reason.. Somewhere I have an alpha dieselxswt #3 but I've lost track of which one it is.. I'm not really concerned about what is what because we're just cloning the most vigorous growers come August, then keeping the best all-around from those after flowering is over.. Around my area people don't know a damn thing about specifics strains, they just want killer smoke.. I'll probably do one more tie-down in another 10-12 days then let them go vertical for the stretch.. I never did get to brix mix anything because the place had been out of the size of dry/liquid that I wanted so I'll just wait until next year I suppose.. spinosad seems to have kept the thrips away and there is very little leaf damage anywhere to be seen.. Nothing but happy plants for the most part..
Thanks again to everyone for all the help in making this happen for us..

Those sure are bigass leaves .
O3 Kush? Is that an OG Kush cross?
I grew some OG Kush and loved it. What an awesome strain.
The sad thing is I lost some of my tags this summer; something I promised myself I wouldn't do but did.
The other ones I tied a tag around the stem and then the other day only just realized that the stalk is so big that it grew around it. Now my tags are part of the stalk.
A bit of oversight.

I would have loved to show you pics of my girls but hubby wrecked my camera on his fishing trip so now I have two broken cameras.:nono:

BUT I just LOVE this thread; its so inspirational.:jump:

Geez I hope my last post didn't kill the thread.
Speaking of all the leaves and such, what do you large plant grower do with your trim?

Big fan leaves I generally throw away but I would like to start composting them.

The small sticky leaves I either make canna butter or hash.
Most of you must get pounds of trim. Do you use it all to make one thing or make a few things?
It seems many are using the washing machine method to make bubble hash.

And I was also wondering if I could ask how much bud you are usually getting per plant on average ?
I'd think many growers from California or BC could be getting 4 to 5 pounds per plant.
Is this possible?

straintester, most of the big boys in here are all pulling at least 5, many 5-10 and some as much as 12+, especially this year.. From what I've read through this thread over the last few months these guys are outdoing their previous years every year.. Pretty amazing and jaw dropping stuff.

I'll be making washing machine bubble this year (hand bubble last year) and donating it to the free disbursement program at Good Karma and hopefully some other spots where true generosity and compassion are practiced.

Would High amounts of K in the soil help initiate flowering? My friend has some that aren't quite flowering but they are getting internodes close together looking like they want to and I was wondering if the k was starting to break down and be more and more available if it might push them in the flowering direction?
