I took all my used/flushed indoor FFOF soil, I used over the winter, and mixed 2 bags used to 1 bag new FFOF soil and added 30% Chunky Perlite to it, and havent had to feed my girls 1x this year.... and they look dark green and healthy.
They have only gotten rain water when it rains.
I think Ill get 5lb plants and only used 1 1/2 bags of new FFOF and 1 gln Chunky Perlite per growbag. Thats $35 a plant + $5 for the growbag. $40 for a full season 5lb plant aint to shabby.

I sleep on the porch and wake up to hummingbirds and the awesome flower smells. a hummer did skeet on my face one morning though that was unpleasant

So it seems to me it doesn't matter if you start with a dialed soil or if you add foliars and the like during season, you will still be spending money, because if you think you save money not using anything but water your wrong, you spent money on your soil correct? So in my eyes it doesn't matter what 1 uses it ain't your money to use or waste, and sorry but $200 a yard for soil is a ripoff no matter the quality or results, we need to learn to build our soils and teas from where we live and grow like nature does, but if we need to add goodies so be it, as long as we all remember how blessed we are to do what we do with this incredible plant we have in front of us all!!!!! Of course this rant is from qn inexperienced non big plant grower, as I don't need large plants, they would just end up rotting, I only grow plants I can manage as I am the only 1 , I don't hire anyone EVER. Besides I harvest a few times a year so full term doest matter to me only healthy plants all year.

I run a one man show, but am busier than a one legged man in an ass kickin' contest! (I hope not to offend anyone if you have one leg)
When this thread first started one pound per plant was considered large. How things change over time, for the better in this case.

200 a yard isn't bad at all, you get what you pay for. I've used cheaper soils like empire builder, mendo mix, fox farms, even black gold, and haven't ever had results like what I'm getting now. soil tests showed several of those soils were all out of balance….
especially since for full term, you are re-using the soil year after year and constantly building it so its not a bad cost at all. @ 3 yards per plant I'm only spending 600 bucks on soil, thats barely half a LB when you can potentially yield 5-10lbs per spot, AND re-use it again next year.
i wouldn't use EWSF in a light dep personally. i went this route because i wanted a good base with a proper micro herd that i could develop and nourish…and because its not loaded with a bunch of hot ingredients i was able to mix in all my own preferred ones.
if i had to use a set and forget soil i would go with vermifire, that stuff is loaded and I've never seen plants take off so crazy…
another thing i noticed amongst a handful of friends gardens using EWSF is that root rot, fusarium or wilt is pretty much non existent. i used to lose about 3 plants per season to the dreaded wilt…over mine and my friends gardens we have lost zero plants to wilt since we started using norcal blend last year. thats why strong microbiology is so nice, it helps your plants fight off rot and pests naturally. shit i dont even have spider mites which I'm pretty amazed, i haven't applied neem or any kind of pesticide and bug damage is non existant.
A healthy immune system will = no wilt, no rot, no problems. No Dis-ease.
Like humans, plants have a particular spectrum of minerals, micros, and enzymes necessary for optimum health.
Too much of one might mean too little absorption of another. If Vermifire has such properties, it is most likely close to perfect soil balance.

Bulldog, I'm gonna date myself, but it's all good...When I started growing over 25 years ago, we used to do the happy dance over a 4-6 OZ plants! LOL I can't believe how far things have come.

Microbiology is great yet can't make up for imbalances. A local friend started the season with some pest pressure and disappeared after about 4 weeks of making some adjustments. We're hoping we have things dialed to the point where disease pressure, mainly powdery mildew, is at least reduced and think we're on the right track.
In a bad weather year you'll see who has their program dialed in or not. It's easy to look good in great weather.

I was skimming through the early years of this thread and wow! People used to grow absolute monsters..... I mean real trees. What happened? With all the info, good genetics and all day sun it seems at least 10 pound average would be the norm.
This is my first year outdoors with big plants. Im seeing things like pests, bugs, animals, that Ive never encountered before. It has been a learning experience so far and were just leaving the veg stage, and getting to the stretch phase, which Im sure will have its own challenges.
Im pretty thankfull that I can get on the computer and chat with experts at the craft that will guide me straight. When I first started growing outdoors at 13 years old, I lost every plant for 5 seasons. No growbooks, no magazines, nothing.
I thought getting a 1/4 ounce was fantastic! I started growing really small plants in 5gln paint buckets w/ holes punched threw the bottom for drainage with homemade organic mixes of soil and still had minimal success.
Things have changed so much now. So quickly too.
I can go to the store and get everything I need, and have alot of info at my fingertips.
I tried it out this year and so far so good. A little knowledge and a humble attitude can carry plants along ways.
