Ya' just gotta' get far enough out to realize there's still real freedom, and that it's self-discipline and a respectful controlling of desires/greed and wants that keeps it that way. Once it gets abused or robbed, then controls reach further out.

I worked in remote clearcuts in 1979 doing mistletoe eradication for the US Forest Circus., out the SW corner of Mitkoff Island, across from Zarembo Island.

Later did professional work on Prince of Wales Island, and would often stop in Coffman Cove to get together with an oyster farmer there, who would inevitably have boxes of oysters intended for the pricey restaurants in Ketchikan, Juneau, Seattle, etc., and due to the weather (same systems that gave you those 30' waves out in the open water) the float planes often couldn't get in to pick up the boxes on time, so rather than having them rot, on my way to sitting in clearcuts for hunting Sitka Blacktail deer, I'd pick up a box of fresh oysters for $5.

The scraping of the shells was not typically condusive to deer calling; doesn't sound like scraping on a tree with antlers at all. But I always came home well-fed with healthy fresh seafod in my belly, and the deer liked the advance warnings of humans lurking in the woods too, I'd bet..
