well, just harvested some seeds made in one of those trashcan breeding chambers; gave them some classic rock names, just for fun:

"One Toke Over the Lime"
buddah's sister x blue ox

"The Trich's They are a'Changin'"
gorilla glue #4 x Blue ox

"Heard it in a Nug Song"
Cali Connect Cookies x Blue Ox

Next up is a G13 x Cornbread male that will be pollinating 3 or 4 females; a cookies, a glue, hopefully an Lime Cookies Bubba, and maybe one more, ideally a canna-tsu.

Naming puts a different twist on perception, for sure. RD seems to do it well. It's weird, but there are strains I'll probably never grow because of the name- Killing Fields, Destroyer, Mob Boss & some others, Shit among them. Other people are fascinated by such names, I'm sure.

OTOH, I'm tempted to create some crosses just because they could have great names. Goat Wreck Haze x Eldorado = Goat Wreck Eldorado. Queen Mother x anything = some kind of Queen, right?

Silly, I know, but I get that way sometimes.

agreed, never liked the name "agent orange" or "green crack"

just was listening to those kinds of tunes the other day when harvesting seeds..... good to be silly sometimes, can't go taking ourselves too seriously, right?

also.... setup this bigass aero cloner.... full of clones (risky on the first time i know)...
and i'm a lil worried about water temp getting too warm, so i've put it on a timer, running 15 mins on and 15 mins off all day... that sound ok? it's been a while since i've used one of these, been doing the rockwool cubes in domes with trays deal for the last couple years and it's been working fine until recently.
In cloner res i used plain water, lowered pH slightly to about 5.5 - 6.0, used liquid dip and grow to dip cuttings in.

They should be fine on that cycle 10 on 10 off. I let my aero cloner run 24 hours a day without issues and water temps stay pretty good.

well, just went over to the organic section, it's pretty dead over there so think i will stick in this thread.... i know i keep saying "new thread", but feel like im just now getting cozy in this one.

The room is chopped, all hanging now, took it to 60 days.

^ Flo x Grimm Reaper, very thick spongey buds, with a slightly sweet but also "tangy sour" kind of taste, like bitter unripe tropical fruity smell.
Also, traded some clones yesterday and got back a keeper cut of the Flo....

^ more glue turning colors

picture.php

^^ colorful colas on this expression of the glue

picture.php

^^ Frosty golfballs on this expression of glue.

and finally, here is the kiddie pool, isolated:

^ really has convinced me about shared rootspace in organics, more soil, better, more surface area better

you should use some fencing wire and landscape fabric.. make a loop that fits inside the lil pool and get her about an extra foot deeper...

So is shallow but wide superior to deep and narrow? O and if you didn't catch my other question, wat benefits have you found top dressing the em?

thanks 4 the kind words tleaf, getmo, ghostmade & budman!
:thank you:

yhea, i seent it....
i have the floraseries bloom and micro even (main ingredients of snype's mix)
*fingers crossed*

you should use some fencing wire and landscape fabric.. make a loop that fits inside the lil pool and get her about an extra foot deeper...

the new home-made pots are considerably deeper (18-24 inches of soil, plus hay mulch) than the kiddie pool.

So is shallow but wide superior to deep and narrow? O and if you didn't catch my other question, wat benefits have you found top dressing the em?

imo shared rootspace is better when balanced between depth and width. i think the kiddie pool is about 10 inches tall, so about 8-9 inches of soil deep in it. Imo this was on the shallow side, but the plants only had a few weeks to veg into it, not their entire lives.
ideally i will create 2 sets of beds, plant established clones from cups/1gallon pots into beds, veg 8-10 weeks in one set of the beds (while the OTHER set of beds is flowering mature plants), then flip into flowering when the other set is harvested/tilled/notilled/replanted/replaced

as for the BENEFITS of topdressing EM....
the biggest effect i've seen so far from topdressing the curds from my lactic acid bacteria serum separation is accelurating the breakdown of amendments, fueling growth of thermofilic bacteria, heating up my soil and killing a few of my small gorilla glue plants before i could get them out of the hot soil in time.
i think my soil amendments had been a lil heavy and not "cooked" long enough, and i probably was also a lil heavy handed with the curds when topdressing, it was late at night, and i was pretty enthusiastic (over-enthusiastic, even).

Man I have been missing while I'm building mine. Dam bro nice work, can't wait to throw my glue into flower. I'm just happy to have finally got some ladies flipped, they were getting anxious, lol.

Killed it with the kiddie pool, one thing I have learned and will always use from here on out.
If it's deeper than 16" it's pointless.

nice to see the kiddie pool. was thinking about setting up a tent w/ 400hps and putting one of my smart pot big beds in it. 100 gallon. 13.5 sqft of space.

How many did you plant in there?

why do u say that?
just curious, never heard that before....
i have considered that deeper you go you risk more soil compaction....

Over the years it's just something I have to come to notice everywhere. Growing indoors the roots stop making it to the bottom of my 7 gallon SP, but there are tons out of the short 3 gallon, same outdoors. Then when plants are done and I'm pulling them to see how the root mass was, again very few roots past the 16" mark.

I tried messing with the soils to see if it was compaction, adding tons of vermiculite and perlite, again the root ball was huge around the 6-12 area but only little tiny roots past.

This then had me consider the plant type, and it's nature, she likes to root low wide and fast due to her shorter lifespan. She's not a tap rooter.

I'm stuck using the SPs I have but, like you I'm going to design bins, I don't have space for the kiddie pools lol. I'm thinking 24x24x16 on casters for indicas, and 30-36 for sativas.

Hydro guys don't need to concern themselves on this, their roots can drag in the water for miles, due to suspension.

9 in the pool, def could have done 6 and been ok... slightly longer veg time.

as for the 16 inches deep soil, def i think if you don't veg too long that does sound ideal, but for TREES with long veg time in the pool, def gonna be able to reach deeper imo.
would love to put my beds on casters.... they are 36 inche squares, except for one is 46" x 35".
