TGA Genetics- Concerning Potency...

The reason most of TGA's gear is Subpar isn't because of the lack of quality female plants he uses ... he uses the same two or three males to pollenate everything he has...he just doesn't realize his lack of vision is clouding his own future. :/

This seems to be how a lot of folks do it now...

There's already enough great females
to work with out there, but tell me of
one great male that's passed around.
Yeah. The main effort (in my opinion)
is selecting a great stud to hit with a
desirable female based on the outcome
you want in the offspring. I go through
seeds to find males. In some circles I'm
made fun of locally as the pollen man
and prod idiocy at the idea of growing
out a bunch of males to find the proven
best.. some will look at me and back away
thinking if they touch me I'll give HIV to
their girls (when it's already been stated
that I've showered and redressed since
handling specimens in my stud stall, just
going though these motions as a joke)...
It honestly often gets to an unprofessional
level of annoying but what keeps it from
being an annoyance and a motivator instead,
is when they all see the results of the mass
idiocy! I'd laugh if someone in PNW calls me
out based on this vague information. Lmao.
In relevance, I like subcool's flavors but IMO
new varieties should be coined when a flavor
is made that is far different from the rest. Too
much similarity in the flavors I've experienced.

The Void 2.0 - I'd call it pretty stoney, one shorter plant slapped me into the couch. The other taller one was fast (6 weeks) and had some purp in it, but not as tasty. The short one did have a knock down buzz imo.
Agent Orange - I found it to be more than chick weed, sativa dominent/creeper, but strong sativa and long lasting. Taste is powerful and strong in this one. But I still wouldn't call it weak, it's just not 2 x 4 indica.
Space Jill - I'd put in the worst 5 of my life category. Yield was horrible, like 15 grams off a 3 foot plant, all 4 females were that way. Using the same veg techniques as other plants I was hoping for 40+ grams a plant. Tiny .5 cm buds as colas, just a joke. Not much taste, beyond pedestrian stone. I hate to bash but all 4 girls of 10 seeds were the same, and at the time I had a really nice and healthy room.

funny seeing the asshat hater comments about subcools gear.

All our patients love how Agent Orange has no ceiling, or how plushberry helped back pain, or how vortex helps with spasms and anxiety. You idiots could always go buy yourselves some heroine or cocaine if your looking to get "high". Most strains from breeders are pheno specific. Know what that means? Of course not or you wouldnt be bashing any breeder. We've won two local bud competitions (festivals) with agent orange, of which is better than most ecsd phenos out there. Educate yourselves before running your pi$$flaps about breeders.

Shit, can't believe I missed this thread - I've run lots of Sub's stuff over the years.

First off let me say that Subcool has been very decent in his dealings with me. He and I have communicated back and forth many a time over the years exchanging methods and info. He's sent me lots of free beans to test his gear. So I just want to say that whatever I/we/you think of TGA as a whole, Sub's always been honest when it comes to his direct dealings with me.

That said, with the exception of a single strain, I'd have to agree. I've run his Querkle, CheeseQuake, Space Bomb, JillyBean, and others. None were especially potent. As others have noted much of his work as a breeder is focused on smell/taste, which to be honest, is no less impressive. Obviously finding something special requires a lot of females grown to completion, and his Querkle did look pretty and the like, but the potency wasn't quite what I had hoped for. It wasn't as if it was garbage, just not what I had come to expect from other stuff I was running/have run.

That said - I grew a SpaceBomb of his that had a smell that was unreal. To this day it goes beyond description. Seriously. So pungent and fruity/skunky that everyone who smelled it thought I did something to alter the smell. The taste was also incredible. That lady was also my most potent of his gear, until recently.

Most recently he recommended a newer cross of his to me - Conspiracy Kush. I told him I'd try it. I did. I got 4 ladies from 9 seeds (one never germinated) and all four were fairly similar in terms of structure but differed in terms of color and potency. I definitely found a keeper. What's unique about this plant is that it lived up to his description at least in terms of structure. HUGE chunky nugs with almost no leaf. My keepers girls has purple and pink hues on some of the ripened calyxes, but is for the most part a very unusual shade of green. I just completed mother selection like two weeks ago and the potency of all 4 girls is way above average for TGA - the keeper isn't the best I've ever seen but it's honestly up there. The smell however isn't quite as incredible as my SpaceBomb but it's up there. It's more pungent than much of what I've run, though right now I'm blessed with a stable of solid mothers. My C99Bx keeper is still one of the most crazy smelling strains I've found. Mosca once told me I'd know the pineapple pheno when I found her, lol, he was right.

Anyway, just wanted to share that with you all. The yield was pretty mediocre though not disappointing, but seriously the bud structure and potency lend themselves to some stellar bag appeal - though I'm not done drying/curing yet. Buds nearest the bottom of my screen are still quite sizable, which is uncommon. So far it's my best strain of his, and to be honest his Querkle was a bit of a disappointment in the potency department, so was the Jilly Bean. The Jilly Bean did have a cool smell at harvest though, but it didn't transfer completely to the cured buds. The cured buds from both the initial seed and clone runs smelled a little more generic than she did at harvest - though I'm not complaining.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience.

Vortex

Vortex

Greetings IC. Just got in my final numbers on my TGA Subcool Vortex run. I did 6 plants from seed in RDWC using Lucas with maxibloom powder in weeks 6&7 of flower. From germination to flower was 50 days and flowering was from 65-72 days as I harvested over a week gathering the most mature first. I found the internodal length and stretch to be extreme. The buds were super frosty but not super dense and I got a shit ton of foxtailing. This is my first indoor grow in sometime so a lot could probably be chalked up to user error. All said and done I am very satisfied and will run some clones to see if I can learn and control the strain better to yield better results. In all I yielded 1050g of which 715g was A grade and 345g was B or flarf.

As far as smoke report. It is stoney. What can I say I am not one of those guys who talks of cedarwood undertones reminiscent of my days in the....... I like it. Sticky and nice. Not super potent on the smell, although I left a bag in my car overnight and in the morning :woohoo:
It doesn't knock my socks off... but then again nothing I have found does anymore.

Couple months later with a good cure on and I am enjoying the Vortex even more than before. Potency and flavor have both seemed to increase. I have a few more Vortex plants running now but after I will be experimenting with some different strains including some from Subcool, but I will not rule out growing Vortex again in the future.

Gotta say agent orange is some of the best smoke imo.... the high is like a refined high. Ultra feel good and potent:) so heady, def one of my many faves....
True not the most potent but in terms of high its quality... u might not feel it after a indica or hybrid sessi9n. Its a sativa type high...

Hey all,

Quick question. Why is it that TGAs gear just does not do it in the potency department for me and a lot of people I know? I've personally grown vortex, JTR, Jesus OG, time wreck and a couple others that allude me at the moment. The dude has his terpenes down. His flavors are amazing. Even the Jesus OG was lackluster at best. Its a complete shame because I really dig his gear. I always give it another shot but after this Jesus og run I might have to call it quits on TGA for good.

he breeds for bag appeal.. smell taste and yield before potency.. honestly. I found the same thing.. friend of mine was poppin mad seeds he received directly from sub cool .. and he found a few keepers.. and after growing them with a few other strains he had been growing for years.. he had complaints on every single strain that it wasn't strong.. that it looked and smelled great. but everyone said they needed to smoke more then normal to get were they wanted to be..

after that .. I stopped.. watched a bunch of subcool videos and shit.. and realized.. he don't give a shit about much besides making money.. and smoking lots of weed. and most of his shit is just CROSSES.. and hes charging out the ass for doing little to zero work .. fuck that.. SUBCOOL = OVER HYPED POLLEN CHUCker.. or also known as a PHUCKER..

I got the chance to talk to Sub a bit at the cannabis cup and dude clearly knows his shit and doesn't hide the fact about his preference of breeding taste over potency. He experiments in his ways with how he wants his strains to be. If everybody grew just for potency we would all be growing like OG, TW and GDP over and over and nothing would ever evolve or change, and that gets boring fast.

Everyone wants those great tasting strains that still can punch you in the face, but they don't happen overnight. Strains like jilly and space bomb help pave the way for that when someone else will decide to breed and cross against to make something really special. Variety is the spice of life as they say, and places like TGA serve their purpose and help strains change and evolve as we learn to evolve how we grow.

We should be hating real pig headed pricks like Cali Connection. Dude doesn't do shit to create strains just copies real ones.
