MM you are a keen and productive maker of biochar.

Have you directly (under the scope) studied the role of char in providing 'luxury condos' for microbes?

Would there be any benefit in adding char to a tea?

I know, questions, questions... :smoke:

Anyone tried the bennie teas? he says to use the nute as a powder spread within your medium, and the root and foliar you can add to your ACT tea at 1 tbsp / gallon

I just ordered the 3 pack off ebay, anyone had good results? The real reason I am trying the bennie cap 3 pack is to get rid of aphids without using imid. Hate chemicals, thats the whole resaon i started growing for myself.

Since biochar is a longterm soil amendment and ACT is a quickly made liquid I would think it a waste to add biochar. I do, however apply ACT to biochar prior to mixing in soil.

While I was adding biochar to my soil last weekend that thought hit me so I started up some ACT immediately. It's in my basement and a bit cool so I'll give it until tomorrow before using.

MM - how long do you let the bio char & tea inoculate for? just picked up a bag of cowboy brand lump charcoal and want to make sure i time the soak correctly while my soil finishes up.

I don't know if I'm doing it right but we just fill a 50 gallon steel drum that has the bottom full of 1/4 inch holes, with charred shavings and dump 12 gallons of ACT into it. The ACT slowly perks through the char and out the holes.

My reasoning is to keep it anaerobic and preserve the ACT in its present state of microbial population. An added bonus is that you can set the drum on top of a compost heap or soil and inoculate it as well.
