Very nice, BA! With a 12" waterfall in the res, you won't need to worry about oxygenation in the buckets (or air pumps/airstones). And good idea suspending the drain pipe from the ceiling. Can't wait to see some clones in those buckets! Hope you took some extra clones so you can pick the six stongest. What strain are they? Indica or sativa?

Thanks Pete! I took extra cuts. It's the same strain. Jackie White = Jack Herer x White Widow. Sativa dominant. Shouldn't be more than a couple days now til they root. During which, I am sealing up the leaks in the bulkheads with some silicone.

Hi BA,
Good that you've grown Jackie White before. I've scrogged indicas but not sativas, which will stretch about a week longer. How long did you flower them for? Ten weeks?

I found what should be a perfect size for an inner bucket. A 3.5 gal bucket from US Plastics: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=65250&catid=752 11.75 inches diameter and 11 inches tall. The 3.5 gal round bucket can sit on its bottom lip about 3" above the rectangular bottom pail, resulting in about 6" of vertical space for air type roots. I've heard that US Plastics ships out fast and has very good Customer service. We hydro growers must account for a lot of their business!

I've yet to flower these actually. This evolution will also be a learning experience. The grower, which I obtained the beans from, says to flower 8-9 weeks.

Nice find on the buckets. I especially like the fact that they meet FDA requirements. I think you're right about the business. I noticed the other day that the 13 Gl buckets and lids are identical to those of the WF, just white. Those pails will be a lot easier to cut lids for.

Hi BA,
Knowing the total flowering time will help us time your scrog so that we can control the height of the buds above the screen. With six plants under your 4'x4' canopy, I anticipate a fairly short veg period to fill the screen about 3/4 full. At that point, you can switch to 12/12 lighting to start the flowering time. I'll elaborate later when the screens are filling. Right now my best guess is that your plant will stretch for about 3.5 weeks, which is closer to an indica. That's based on an estimated 8-9 week total flowering time and the 40/60 phenomena: http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/fourtwenty/articles/4060.htm

I'm hoping that the 3.5 gal round bucket will provide the space needed to grow a large upper root system. Without a top drip, the inner pot may be too dry but we will see. This is the kind of roots we need. Fuzzy air type roots that fill the container from top to bottom:

Sorry for the delay in responding. I had to dig up my notes that I took when buying the seeds:

-finishes in NLT 60 days
-mostly sativa
-long stretch

I finally decided to reel the mom in with a scrog. I let her go wild while focusing my efforts on the construction of the rig. The issue being, she looks like she is ready to flip given the expected stretch and the fullness off the screen but I am going to start veggin the clones in the prototype that is in my flower room, this mother plant was veggin in my veg room and was out of control.

I think I'm gonna like this scroggin' thing. I can already see how this will increase the yield when growing indoors.

I think the best option at this point is just to flower this mom in place in the veg room and then proceed with the original plan with the clones. I guess the time is arriving to build v2.0 so that I can support flowering and vegging plants seamlessly. I'll PM you on my thoughts for the next design but they include a rolling 4x4 table with a 50 Gallon 4x4 footprint res. I'm planning for the res to sit directly below the table, use similar drains for the buckets and a common drain fitted into the center of the table where the drains will converge and waterfall into the res. I would like to get to a point to where I could leave the rigs in place, one in veg, two in flower, all with same, interchangeable, inner buckets so I can just move buckets from veg into the flowering rig.

Those buckets look good. Those or something similar will be included in the next version, I was thinking about this the other day and why not 10" netpots like the ones that fit atop a 5 gl bucket? They are cheaper and easier to come by.

I took a bunch more cuts while cleaning up the lower growth on this bitch. I dried out two more clones in the RW and instead of trying to educate myself on another method, I just went back to what I know DWC. The 4 in the top L corner are all rooted, just waiting a couple days for them to grow farther into the bubbler before transplanting.

Shouldn't be long now, I'm thinking sometime late week.

Flowering this plant ahead of the clones will afford me an opportunity to get intimate with this chick and learn all her tendecies while under a screen in hopes of increasing my yield with the clones.

Hey BA, those tall clones in your bubbler don't look so good. What happened to them? When you use rockwool, are you leaving the plastic wrap on so that the sides don't dry too fast? If the sides of the cube are exposed, you should cover all the cubes with a dome or use a tray with individual cells to prevent the sides from drying. As soon as the roots come out about an inch, they can go into the buckets. Then keep the rocks moistened with nute solution until the roots grow down to the water level.
