I saw an interview with him where he was talking about his ex-wife judging him, that she divorced him when he did this to himself. He was disappointed that she wouldn't let him see their son. I wasn't.

Like someone else explained, the boy was frightened by the sight of him and confused why he looked that way.

And yet I bet she tells the kid not to judge a book by the cover.
Yeah, not to completely derail too much, but I don't think it's fair to put the kid through that kind of changes. If he tries to hug or kiss the boy, he'll get his eyes poked out. When the kid gets older it's a different question. I don't think he needs to deal with the bullying from other kids at school about it, either. The father should put his own needs last.

Also not to derail...but I'm left wondering if that statement sickens the rest of the men/fathers here as much as it does me?
