Hey ho, Elevator Man. Goin' up?

Yes, you've got the right wicks. You can actually use anything that will wick the water. I've seen some folks using pieces of a cotton t-shirt or cotton rope. I think I'm gonna try some cotton rope next time. That does sound better than the fiberglass.
You can ALSO same $$$$ and go get some "hollow" cotton rope...works AWSOME and less than 1/2 the price of the wicks!!

Anyone want a bottle of hormone rooting gel? - what a waste of money that was!!!

Thanks Grat3fulh3ad. Cloning always depressed me cos I never had any luck, even wiv the chems.

Got anymore bright ideas I can use? :)

quick question i havent done much cloning yet been straight from seed for over 5 years lol i know thats bad lol
anyways i want to make one of these but cant find the wicks do you think i could use that white rope thats pliable? or any other ideas thanks
also with the white conatiners not clear do you need more light to go throw also would 2 24 watt cfls be enough for one of these setups?
sorry these questions may have been asked already thanks alot already it makes it look so easy
also do you use cloning powder before you put them in right?

Hey Pope. How's life at the Vatican Weedpatch?
This cloner is the real deal. I was a clone hitman until I found this thread. Now they thrive. I took my last batch out at 12 days and they had beautiful roots.
Your question about rope - yeah, most anything will work. Old cotton T-shirt cut into strips - towels - and I actually found WICKS in the candle department at Wal-Mart. Cheap. 97 cents. They are the kind that go in kerosene lamps or those fancy candle oil thingamabobs.
I used cloning powder the last time I cloned a batch. My first time, I didn't use the cloning powder and it still grew nicely. Either way works.
Your lights will be plenty for the clones. I also had better success not using a humidity dome. Good luck.

Yes, the clones were prepared with the (underwater) cut and scrape and then the clone powder.

I notice Ur cloning clonees, and U may have already answered this as I didn't read the whole thread. Do U have any problem with the plants mutating after repeated cloning from clones? I'm currently cloning from mothers, but mainly because it simplifies timing in a perpetual grow.

Taking cuttings from cuttings does not cause mutations, as far as I can tell... been taking cuttings from cuttings for years, and they all grow out the same...

Well Grat3fulh3ad,

I have a few questions too. Your not using a cover any more you wrote. So are the results better? How far is your CFL from the cuttings without the cover? Can I assume you don't use wiltpruf, heating pad, or a fan? I have learned it's the small things that will make a difference. I am amazed at that this tread has lasted over a year. Are you still seaching for the grail?

I'm still using the same cloner, which was an upgrade on an earlier smaller version...

dead clones

dead clones

I took several cuts and put them i the perlite under a dome with my light 2' away( 210 watter ) only had 4 of 20 make it. the temps are in the 75 to 80 range. They get fungus on them at the base a rot.should I leave the dome off and change the perlite. they are ak47 that have been under constance 18 hrs.light

yeah man, leave the dome off, and drop those temps another 5 degrees or so... rooting cuts don't need too awful much light... My cloner is a foot away from 2x 28w cfls... change the pearlite as well, I once bought some that had been stored outside and had algae growing in it and was damp... But I have found that higher temps upper 70s -low 80s, can most definately contribute to fungus, mold, damp off, rot etc...

I've always had trouble cloning too,and a modified(smaller) version of this worked like a charm for me. Takes 20 or so days but maybe that's just my strain. Thanks Grateful Head.
PS,the Deads music will live in my heart forever. Miss you Jerry.
Peace

WOW cloning made simple

WOW cloning made simple

:woohoo:  GH thanks for sharing,I was wondering i use vinegare to bring down my ph (7.8to6.4,1tsp to 1gl) will this hurt my clones? and also when clones are ready to transplant ,is ffof50%-per25%-ver25% all right to use in 12oz cups

Very nice cloner Grat3. i am in Korea and can't find any perlite. Do you thinjk it would work with pumice?

pumice is heavy and coarse (Sharp edges) pealite is very light weight and has round edges

Tiny styrofoam shreds might work better - might not

vinegar is really unstabile and PH will vary wildly.

Strangely enough, ph 7 distilled water seems to work - better than my PH 7.0 tap water

I'm gonna build this today and hopefully it will solve my cloning problems. I haven't been able to root 1 clone yet.

Anyways, I'm thinking of cutting sponge for the wicks. The Tiki torch wicks will probably be hard to find since patio torches are currently out of season where I am. Rope would probably work but that's something else I have to go and buy.
