Do you use a water chiller? or is your AC room enough to keep it cool?

Thanks for checkin' out my table!

What up Mose ??

Flat:
I do not use a chiller. On the list but their expensive and I would need more than one. I trying to configure a way to use the creek in my back yard. But for now.........I haven't really needed a chiller.

If I do set up any kind of water cooling system.........it'll be for lights.

Hey Cap'n. Just some food for thought. I know you are a DIY fan. Here's some things i came across that might interest you.

DIY Cyclestat timer: http://uk.geocities.com/ronj_1217/rts.html
http://www.greenpinelane.com/YAF/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=58

I'm no electro-genius, but i have friends and family who could help me through the process. Seems like i could build one for a few bucks. The second link looks way easier to me, page 2 of that thread has a great 'how to'.

DIY Water Chiller: http://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/23028-diy-water-chiller-setup.html

Basically a mini/dorm fridge and 100' of plastic tubing that you can pump your res water through. Maybe not as efficient as a chiller, but you can get those dorm fridges for like $30 on craigslist. Punch a couple holes, run some tube...BAM! cheapo water chiller.

I know you have several tubs that would need chillin'. Maybe you could try one of those storage freezers. They come in different sizes (seems like 1–30 cubic feet) so you might be able to run 8 lines through it (or how ever many you need) and it might just do the job with 1 big ol' unit (maybe something like this: http://www.consumersearch.com/freezer-reviews/whirlpool-eh151fxr).

Probably not a final answer...but those things have been on my mind lately.

Where u at Pirate. Lets see some updates. Your Aero is like the sexiest system Ive seen on this site. I have a mini-orgasm every time I look at those pics of how perfectly designed they are. Do you keep mothers in Aero, DWC or soil?

Yo !! What up? Thanks man. I appreciate the Props.

My mothers are in Coco pots (2 gallon) on an ebb & flo table. Self built (of course). I am getting ready to swap them over to an Ebb & Gro bucket system though. I'll probably build that as well. Why pay $500.00 when I can build one for $200 and make it my way is my thought.

Thanks again man.

Yo pirate what up man nice DIY love it infact im gonna change up my room here in a little bit (next grow) and go aero... ive been reading this thread and others i noticed you commented that if you built your own ideally you would want it 18-24 inches... That might be alittle more then you said but you get the jist of it....

i wanted to use bonticare tables as well and was thinking why couldnt we/me just build a extender of somesort that connected to the table was water proof and just added 6-12 inches and then screwed that top to that.. suspending the roots so they dont sit making it more like a tag (even though tag is high pressure blah blah blah)...

so if that made any sense to you my next question is what do you think i/we could use for a extension (material wise)....

and last but not least do you think the worth is even worth it?.....

Btw loved the design on graph paper dont know why i never think of simple shit like that lol thanks in advance...

Hey PTB. Thanks man. Are you "Mr. Blunted" ? I've seen that photo of the kitty on "Blunted"s page.

OK. If your wondering about the root suspension I was talking about......... I would keep it simple and not worry about it. I have a 6 inch root space and grow fat ass / tight colas. Trying to add height to the top of of a botanicare tray may prove to be more hassle than its worth. I've thought about it myself but never came up with a simple /. practical way to get it done. If you do please share. But again.............Using the tray as it comes from the store is just fine and I've not had any issues to date. Not one.

Last week I harvested 1 pound from a 3 x 3 table. It works for me !!

Graph paper? Yup !! I use it all the time. I just layed out my outdoor garden with it and now I know exactly where and how many of what I am going to plant based on my blueprint. Got lots of veggie sprouts popping up in peat pellets. I'm planting this weekend. (late........but better than never)

shiver me timbers Pirate. you have many fine threads
and design/build skills. thanks for all the fine tips.

If I take a deep tub (say 12" deep) and make it my reservoir
also (say 6" deep) with a 6" air space above the nutrient line
for the roots and sprayers would I equal your system without

the separate components of reservoir & mist chamber?

thanks

That method you are talking about works fine for aero cloners where the roots don't get too long, but i don't know if i'd use it for the bloom.

The roots are going to get much longer than 6". Then they'll be sitting in the water, possibly getting sucked into the pump/clogging the filter.

that'd be interesting to see a hybrid Aero/DWC setup. haha. Add some airstones and let it rip.

We'll wait and see what the Cap'n says.

LOL !! Captain. That funny shit 5TH.

Actually.......to disagree with 5th. That would work great. I have more units like that than I do this aero unit.

If you go back to page 1 or 2 and look at my earlier units that is exactly what I have. But my unit is only 8 inches deep total with a 3 or 4 inch air space. The roots live in the solution 24/7. Your roots can dangle into the rez with the pump as long as you block it from sucking up the roots. Its a DWC / Aero hybrid and works very well for seedling through harvest.

Also......go back and look at the AQUAMIST on page 1. This is exactly the same thing your talking about.

Go knock-em dead !!

Pirate,

With your hybrid DWC/aero models...

do you find that the water movement is enough to keep the submerged roots aerated?

Do you ever add airstones to any of your reservoirs?

What's your best suggestion for keepin the roots away from the pump? A nice filter bag?

now you got me thinkin...I didn't need to go through the hassle i did with drainage and whatnot...

Constantly evolving...

LOL.. Yeah that my problem too. Constantly evolving.

You can use all kinds of methods to keep the roots out of the pump. Filter bags are ideal. Small PVC barriers / sponge filters / etc. I bought a roll of "Garden Weed Blocker" and use that shit for everything from pot liners to filters. Roots grow right through it. Water and air pass through no problem yet debris stays out. I buy 50 foot rolls for 15 bucks. I've even sewed it into shapes for pots or bags. Get some !!

I never use an air stone when I have sprayers going. The constant rotation and spray of the solution provides plenty of aeration. Never get root rot either. Ever !!

Knock on wood !!

Thanks man.

I use the Botanicare trays and they have a 1/2 inch lip all th way around. The ABS top just sits there in that groove. No spray or solution gets out.

GH trays also have a lip. But they are cheaply made IMO. And cost the same.

I use rapid rooters and "Dip & Grow" compound solution. I don't like the gels because they are to thick. I want the solution to penatrate the clone stem and get into the cells........the gel sticks to the exterior and is wiped off as you stick the clone into the rooter. If you use a Clone machine then this wouldn't be an issue.

Once they root........usually withing 5 to 10 days........14 max.........I transfer the rapid rooter with rooted clone into a 2 inch net cut with a neoprene cap. That cup goes into an Aeroponic unit under a 400 watt HID. After 14 days I transfer that (using that tub you were talking about) 2 inch net cup into the Main Flowering room and into the 3 x 3 Aeroponic table I detailed here until harvest.

If your interested..........I'm gonna put together a cloning tutorial sooner rather than later. There are many ways people clone and I am just going to present my method. It works for me and it should work for many others.
