Strange Slime buildup on roots

Reading more and more into the UV route it seems that you got some groth loss due the the UV light making the nutrients not active or something anymore.. that it kills nuetralizes iron and you have to add back or you own you get problems. Surprised to see you had success richy that wasnt too lacking.. if you google uv steril hydro the commercial research seems that route isnt so good

Seems beneficials are the route.. how are you guys making your own tea? what is some of the best off the shelf stuff to buy?

Here's a recipe that i found and just started myself, and it seems to be working very well. I mostly had everything except for the earthworm castings, but you can make a compost bubbler for cheap! Bucket, Air pump w 4" stone, stockings, earthworm castings.

My roots on friday were ruined by some shitty algae, cleansed the system with physan, brewed my tea for 24 hours, added 3 cups to a 18 gal res. Now I have tons of root growth. I took some pics but Vista is garbage and keeps crashing when I upload them.

Seedlings less than 1 month old nute tea mix-

5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
1 to 2-cups earthworm castings/5 gallons of water

Veg mix-

1/3 cup Peruvian Seabird Guano (PSG)
1/3 cup High N Bat Guano (Mexican)
1/3 cup Earth Worm Castings (EWC)
5 tsp. Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract
5 tbs. Liquid Karma
5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
@ 1-cup mix/5 gallons of water

Flowering nute tea mix:

2/3 cup Peruvian Seabird Guano
2/3 cup Earth Worm Castings
2/3 cup High P Guano (Indonesian or Jamaican)
5 tbs. Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract
5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
@ 2 cups/5 gallons of water EVERY watering.

You can use queen size knee high nylon stockings for tea bags. 3 pair for a dollar at the dollar store. Tell 'em you use them for paint strainers. Put the recommended tea in the stocking, tie a loop knot in it and hang it in your tea bucket. The tea should look like a mud puddle. Agitate the bag in the water vigorously. An aquarium pump and air stone will dissolve oxygen into the solution and keep the good bacteria (microherd) alive and thriving. Let it bubble a day or two before you use it. If you find you are making too much tea and having to throw it out, use 2 1/2 gallons of water and cut the nute amount by half.

Good to hear Steel.

Use caution with those recipes. Over application could over fertilize. The simplest of recipes is needed for our cause. Earth worm castings to harness the microbes and a sugar source.

Yes, simple EWC Tea is all you need. Best part is that it is super cheap.

Off the shelf stuff: Great White, EA & EN, etc.; I like to add AquaShield in addition; and Root Excelurator, also. There are a lot out there. Just don't add mollasses or carb products to the rez with them. You could have an overgrowth that will mess with your pH, and if your good microbe colony is not doing so well, then you will just have opened the free buffet line for the slime.

Say richy do my roots not look good? Those pics are two weeks old.:joint: That one with the 400 MH bulb off and the aquarium light on

The picture is in low lighting, but they seem healthy. From what I can tell they are white to tan color; healthy from a visual perspective.

Read post #601 and #606 above.

I think my work is done here guys/gals. It was asked, a name has been put to, and the collaborative work here has solved the problem. I know from here on out I will have no more root problems. It is solved as far as I'm concerned and what I have experienced.

I am starting to get a lot of the same questions on things that are already posted in this very long thread. If somebody would like to take the torch, per se, I'm out; but, around.

If your referring to my questions, you only mention using the beneficials in your cloner (I stand to be corrected but I dont remember reading otheriwse) not through an entire grow..

Most people I know that use beneficials only use them to get things started and usually never add during flowering, just for veg. My only question to everyone here is how are they running them through there grow cycle and what effects it has during flowering etc.

Hey guys good info, Ive been in denial because my stuff didnt look exactly like this... at its early stages it almost looks like a ball forming, you know when you dig up soil you get those little beads on your roots, except this stuff was clear at first and I was afraid to treat it. Been using h202 which helps & blasting it under running warm water which ALSO works well but still leaves it all over ( and now I need to buy more liquid plumber to clear my shower drain ), it just gets most of it but it comes back in 48hrs or so.

Well physan 20 is on the way... I was just thinking though someone posted that all the major dutch growers got it which affected supply in 2007. It is pretty scary this stuff just grows out of tap water without exposure to light.. that I drink... I'm seriously switching to distilled water for myself starting today. sick. If it can grow in a bucket why cant it grow anywhere... just nasty

Is best results just following their recommended dose and running it for several days continuously before flushing?

Ok perhaps it would be helpful if we posted the relevent info 1st in the tread, im digging thru 50 pages trying to find the dosage

I just add the physan straight to the water at about 1ml/gal and let the roots sit in it overnight.

is this the dosage to run continually? Do you re-add it back after X number of days? Do you need to keep using it for the rest of the grow?

Thanks

ps > ok so i just added it and its bubbling up like a bubble bath and out my air holes lol... can you say cleanup crew? 5 minutes and I can see it is going to work on the slime though.

i think with 1ml/gal you don't want to leave it in your res for too long; i'd drain the res the next day as per the quote above... with that much some will still be floating around your system for a bit... the guy above you is running one capful per 50gal... look at the size of your cap and go from there depending on the size of your res... that would be the continual dosage... good luck

Ok thanks. With the 1ml / gal dosage and an air stone you get the mad bubbling, which as I have now found out these finer bubbles pop differently and unless you raise your water level the upper roots will dry out with this stuff in the tank
