Strain selection for outdoor 2012....

No it doesn't include the peat and perlite but it does include the fertilizer and biologicals. Coir is chock full of Lethal Yellowing..If you're talking at me about being scared of pathogens in your native soil ...Bringing in coir fiber is rolling the dice on also bringing in Lethal Yellowing.

I just don't add any other manures because I use so much castings. Don't want to throw the balance off between the compost , casting , fertilizer , and aerators.

I grew about 80% Betsy last year. Great plant. Yields varied from 4 to 7 lbs per plant and she came in Oct 1-10. I just grew so much of it last year that I can't see myself doing it again this year...Just need to switch up what I'm tending to.

I also think the Betsy can get a little brown if left out too long / gets hit with weather...and I frown on brown.
I did an entire garden of betsy last year and hear you on the brown. Same reasons im not growing her, just did to much and what is left over is turning red/ brown but still has that ass kicking smell.

I gotta admit I am not the sharpest knife...but what is Lethal Yellowing? Are you talking about the tendency for the plants to yellow too soon...or some actual disease.

Gotta admit though...I find myself moving more and more towards peat based mixes. It is definitely easier to keep the plants healthier in than coco.

One of my favorite parts of this thread, is that since it's inception different growers, workers and very involved members of the community will weigh in with different ideas, styles and opinions about EVERYTHING pertaining to OutDoor.

We then get to watch every summer how these different styles blend and come to bear fruit. Pictures do speak a thousand words, but these early conversations in the crucial prep stage set the table for all our successes.

Psyched to read about your specifics T.H, thank you.

Veg n Out, you are using the same Avatar as Trinity Gold used to. If you are not the same, my bad. If you are, glad you are still here.

Clones taken, March 1st, still waiting on legs. I'm running 2 Black Boxes with

Super Silver Haze and a Blue Dream cut.

GL all.

Pics when it gets interesting

Peace

I thought this was the Growing Outdoors thread. Too High!
If anyone could move it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Veg, I definitely think that being wary of new pathogens is always an intelligent stance. Have you heard of or seen lethal yellowing in cannabis? It is vectored by planthoppers, which I typically have a hell of a time fending off mid-summer, which makes me feel that your precaution is warranted. Lethal yellowing (and phytoplasmas in general) is predominately found on woody monocots, but there is evidence of certain phytoplasmas infecting cannabis. All in all I am thankful to know that lethal yellowing may be an issue to watch out for, but I would not be too worried about it.

As far as the coco coir goes, I thought you were going to knock it because of its high salinity (depending on the source). I am a fan of coco-soil mixes (not to say that I prefer it to peat heavy potting mixes). From an environmental impact standpoint I prefer coco coir because it is an abundant byproduct. Eventually the price of peat will be so high (due to depleted bogs) that growers will have to switch to bark or coco as the backbone of their potting mix. Thats just my two cents.

On another note, have you (or anyone else) put in a significant amount of vermiculite in your outdoor mix?

I haven't. It doesn't break down and is high in Al ... I get plenty of Al from the Azomite in my mix... I have thought about it, but just go with perlite instead.

That whole thing about the peat bogs depleting is BS propaganda from the coir industry. The truth is that the peat bogs that are being mined are replenishing faster than they are being dredged.

If we stopped mining the Canadian peat bogs they would just fill back up in a couple of years !! Truly amazing the amount of propaganda out there!

Salinity isn't too much of an issue, can be tied up with gypsum and organic matter...but possibly bringing new diseases to the door, All bad.

I have a source I trust that has found LY in gardens with heavy coir content present. I do not know the source of the coir in these gardens but I can ask and hopefully find out.

Im all for preventing disease but Ive never had any problem with it in coco, in or out. It may not be for everybody but Im getting 2-3 pounders out of 20 gallon pots planted first week of july from 1 gallon pots and the bag appeal is far greater than soil grown, goes as ins every time.

Mendocino county has always been 25 since 2007 when we the voters voted it in.

The 99 plant grows were a voluntary program to try to save a few pigs jobs.

Not a right as a medical marijuana patient.

You could run 99 if you jumped threw the Sheriffs hoops and paid a $1500 application fee, 25$x99 ($2475) for zip-ties, sheriff inspections, and other restrictions.
Or
Were stupid and greedy.

Remember 3 things not to get busted
Don't get greedy, Don't get greedy and Don't get greedy.

If you had more plants then 25 and the sheriff is over for any reason (like issuing a arrest warrant) and sees them they the grower is to remove the crop to 25.

Just look what happened to northstone organics. Registered with the sheriff and did everything and in come the fed's.
He is being prosecuted federally. What the county DA says about zip-ties isn't going to help him.

Everyone has asked me to enroll in that 99 plant program since its beginning.
I said "are you F'n crazzy! I don't want sheriff inspections, or on record that I'm running 99 plants."

I know neighbors that were raided with 50,67,99 and 250 buy the feds. They took it all.
But not herd of any 25's being taken.

Word on the Street?
Its the Feds that are the problem not the local DA's.
If the Sheriff and DA's were doing this they would not have a job next election.

Damn!!!, is that in 20 gallons of straight coco? Must be drinking a TON.

Not too bad, That's crazy... 20 gallons @ 2.6 cu ft is like one bag of dirt!!! 2 to 3 out of one big bag of material must be as good as it gets. Probably a good investment in food too eh? Like feed, water, feed, water?

By the way, goin for it out here on the coast this year thanks your stories of success, not to say I wouldn't have gone for it anyways. HAHA

You should do a grow thread, the pics in your album and yields compared to pot size look to be like you're getting the full potential out of your ladies. Peace..

the soil plants were planted 2 weeks earlier from 5 gallon pots. cocos were 3 cubic feet of medium, 1 and one 1/2 of 2cuft 'Sunshine Just Coir.

feed every watering outdoors, but sometimes, give plain water then go back over with food.

the pics in my album are from a 150gal soil smartpot grow two seasons back. I think the nugs shots are from coco grown plants though.

I hope I'm not disturbing or anything but I want a piece of advice. This year I'll be growing outdoors, Master Kush from Nirvana, 5 fem. Could someone tell me what to expect in terms of yield and potency ? And what height could they reach ? I'm at ~47 N btw and it's already sunny outside so I think it will be a hot summer. All help is appreciated.

There's no way for any one to know because the yield and height is unique to each grow and location. Good luck and have fun in the garden.
