skipping town

Im facing a misdemeanor case that carries a maximum of 93 days in jail. The judge that i have, is pretty likely to lock me up. What would happen if i just skipped town and moved a 1000 miles away, like 5 states away. Would they come get me? Would i be facing additional charges if they did?

It depends on if the state you move to has an extradition partnership with the state that you came from.

Some states won't pay to have you returned, while others will. Some states work together as far as extradition goes.

If your crime is of a small enough magnitude then they would just wait for you to slip up and then they would come after you.

I say just do the time. Max it is only three months.

Threre is absolutely no reason to run from something that is so easily fixed. You have to be prepared to do the time if you do the crime.

Yes, you would certainly be facing additional charges, plus fines (for going to get you if needed).

Why skip for a three month sentance? You'll be looking over your shoulder the whole time and end up with a six month sentence. Problems are always best faced head on. Good luck to ya bro.

It's always worst if you run. Ususally you'll be released early anyway, depending on the state. If you run, you eventually will have to do the time anyway. Then when they catch you they will surley lock you up in the HOLE, because you tried to defy their authority.

Plus that will be on your record and could effect a future incarceration if you were to be arrested again. I remember, when they would catch a runner the trustees would tell us that the person was in solitary confinement. That might not happen in every situation depending upon different factors I guess.

I feel for you.

It may seem convenient to run but it is much worse in the long run if you do.

The previous posters are correct. The lurks can relate. 3 years ago the lurks had problems with the drink. Fortunately no one was hurt by poor decisions in the long term. The lurks had to serve 150 days. It sucks but it was the consequences. The sooner they are accepted, the sooner they may be put in the past. Learn from your actions and do your duty. It will make you stronger. Best wishes.

Not sure what state you are in but in mine, you get 3 for 1 time. For a 3 month sentence served in a county lockup (where you go for anything less than 6 months), you will only do 1 month. 1 day equals 3 days of sentence.

More years than you have fingers & toes ago, I managed to plea a manufacturing (growing) charge and received a 90 sentence and only pulled 30 days because of this.

i just simply don't want to do it, when i get out, i'll have no job, no apt, all my shit will have been put out on the street, im talking about moving like 5 states away. I can't imagine they would come get me over a misdemeanor. And skipping the country is also an option.

the shit i did was so petty, if i was in any other county in america, i would have paid some stupid fine, and get ordered to not get in trouble in their county again, but unfortunately for me, i live in a Nazi Police state, with some of the highes penalties in america. They hand out 60 day sentences to 18 year olds caught with a joint every day. then when you finish your 60 days, you spend the next 2 years pissing in a cup every week and taking breath tests every other day or so, plus fines out the asshole, and hundreds of hours community service.

I was planning on moving back home this summer, and if i get probation, i can't do that, if im not gonna finish my prbation, i may as well just skip my sentencing too and hit the road.

If you have no means in which to secure a different identity then by all means you cant run from a computer system that you need to "check into" to get anything.

No car, no drivers license, no tabs, etc.

Why would my petty little misdemeanor be put on any kind of national database? They would issue a passive warrant for me, and wait to pick me up somewhere in the county.

Yes. The lurks has an associate whom was in the south eastern region of your country in 1999 and received a non moving violation in his vehicle. Never paid it. Never heard anything about it. Until the associate purchase a home in 2003. Now there is a collection agency on the case. Complet with threats of license suspension. But it's petty and not worth concern. Skipping bail on a misdemeanor charge is more serious. An arrest warrant will be issued. The next time you are drunk in public or a friend is drunk in public and LEO intervenes, if you are ID'd, you will go directly to jail and be extradited. And you will be given the bill. Now if you skip before conviction, that is fuzzy but still not avisable. Perhaps you should be discussing this with your public defender? Make a list with the benefits of doing this on one side and the negative consequences on the other. Wich side is longer?

Some people will learn the hard way. Once you are in the system, you are stuck. Deal with it now before it snowballs into major problems. Dump your stuff in storage and have a family cover the 20$ to 30$ a month bill. You can make that much working recycle. If your employer will cooperate, you may get work release. That is negotiable with the judge. The Jailer will take a few days to get around to it as they don't give a rats ass about their inmates. But don't make waves and things will work out. Jail is not as bad as people on the outside make it out to be. Prison is something else but the lurks never had to deal with that and only heard stories from the inside of others who did get to experience it. Cancel your lease or sublease, there are options. Be strong. Think about it.

Just do the time. Some states have programs that allow you to only spend your jail time on the weekends, that would prevent you from losing your job and apartment. Three months for a misdemeanor seems excessive. Don't forget the most important rule when it comes to legal proceedings: Always hire a good lawyer to represent you.
