Thanks smilley - means a lot.

Couple things I forgot to mention, in re: to what's been discussed..

When it comes to pre-flowering training, the challenge for me is that I veg in a separate tent - from the minute they're in the room w/ the screen/wall, they're on a 12/12 deal.

I've generally had good luck in being able to use those first 10-12 days of 12/12 to get everyone locked down and whipped into shape. :whip:

Separately, in this case, the Goat didn't train as "flatly" or "against the wall" as I'd have liked. She was initially spread out quite well (more resembling the ND now), but she stretched more than I'd anticipated. She has a roof (shelf) above her, and when she kept taking off, I had to pull her away from the wall a smidgen, so she could launch up and out from beneath the shelf.

In doing so, it pulled the main stem further from the wall/training points, and therefore reduced the angle between her branches and the wall, in re: training..

Thanks for swingin' in smilley :ying:

Thanks for swingin' in..

Your pictures/experience confirm what I've been asking about/saying, .. Your fencing/wall/whatever appears to be rigid (or semi-rigid) plastic.

That's what I have on the bottom row. Works like a charm.

Up top (where are there no plants yet), I have cotton/knit/whatever, 4" trellis netting, secured up top, and not on bottom. Y'know, like you'd have your cukes climb outside..

Even if I were to secure it on the bottom and all sides, I'm almost certain that it won't be nearly as effective in training as a rigid(ish) screen like you have (and I have on the bottom).

Not sure if or how I've not been making that clear, but after seeing the input from you folks, you're actually confirming what I've been thinking I ought to do.

:thank you:

looking good bro

i like your multicolored cloner.. looks like some retro wallpaper.. i thought the colored peices were pool noodles or something but they look like real neoprene..or at least a clean diy..where did you get those i have never seen them before....seems like a great way of organizing and labeling clones

also what cloning solution you using ??

little tip.. split your stems like this with a razor....

makes for some real nice clones ^^that one was only on day 5 and you can see the 1st root

congrats on the cloner

Hey GMax

The colored pieces are similar to the the black neoprene pucks. The black pucks my spot gets have a hole punched out in the center, but even with a stem in the hole, water from the sprayers can still sneak out. The colored ones just have a "T" notched in them, so they sort of "hug" the stem tightly, rather than the stem dangling loosely in a hole.

The main reason I moved to the colored deals was because they seem to have a different texture than the black ones. The black ones I used to use seemed to get "dried out" over time. They'd get sort of coarse to the touch, and if you'd just rub your finger across it, little bits of black neoprene would peel off. The colored deals seem to have a smoother/more firm texture to 'em.

As for cloning solution, good question. Right now, I'm not using anything in there - just plain old, chlorinated water. (not DEchlorinated)

..and that decision is probably as much based on principal as it is practicality. I've had great success w/ the bucket in the past, with just straight water (or a drop or two of Superthrive). For that reason, and the fact that I don't want to spend more money on solution if I don't need to (although it may make me FEEL better, like I'm being more proactive about it.. "Dude, I even bought this bottle of fancypants cloning shit!")

I do have a bottle of Root 66 somewhere - I figure I'll add a smidgen of that if these bitches are temperamental..

not all neoprenes are created equal..

i used to get ones that were thicker (tallness) and spongy like and i didnt like those ones because the top part of the neoprene would be moist too and they seemed to hold bacteria and they would get flimsy after reusing them a bunch

the ones i have now are still black but smooth texture to slightly porous that works way better...they are thinner and they have a T cut out..i prefer these ones because they are sturdier in the long run (reuse over and over) and when they are in the cloner only the part that is below ground is moist which is good..over time the others seemed to wick up water (moist neoprene+light=problems, that lead to dampening off, the biggest clone killer) ..but they do flake if you rub with you finger

plain water will do the trick.. i have rooted many with just h20 ( RO,not tap though) if it not broke dont fix it.. but that splitting stem trick is pure gold

keep it up bro:)

Exactly - if you look closely in the picture I posted, you can see the "T" cutout - which is nice, because I can just open it up and nestle the stem in there. (I let the bucket run overnight with bleachwater to give'er a good rinsing, and at the time I still had 4-5 of the black ones with the hole cutout in the middle. "No big deal," I thought. Came back down the next morning to splatter all over the walls of the room - a significant amount, not a few spritzes).

I used to use dechlorinated (set-out) water, but then I learned that a small amount of chlorine (incidental to what comes out of the tap) isn't a bad thing - helps keep bacteria and slime away. There's a thread around here about a guy who uses a smidgen of pool-shock chlorine in his cloner deal, and he swears by it.

:joint:

Thanks for the company gmax!

Now that is some sound advise there ! :scripture:

Too funny you mention that. I went on a hunt today - deliberately went to Lowe's first (because I already know what HD has, because that's my spot, because I hate Lowe's), and totally scored.

Got a 2' x 25' roll for $9.97.

I like it a lot better than what's on the bottom - same material/rigidity, but the grid on the new stuff is much wider/larger than what I'm currently using on the bottom, so it doesn't have such a "shading" effect on the panda behind it.

As such:

lookn better w that plastic shit on the walls for training, thats gon really do the trick, the more u anchor branches to that stuff on the wall the less u will need that "other" trellis hangin from the top. if u anchor enuf u wont need it at all, thats what avi thinks....
good lookin silverhawaiian

Thanks avinash.

I took down the netting. It can go outside in the spring, with the cukes.

With the rigid plastic behind the plants, against which to train 'em, there's really no need for the trellising in front of 'em..

Now that I've got the second batch in the oven, that means I've gotta get cookin' on the next wave of recruits..
