That's the one struggle of breeding 120+ pound Corso's that are expected to live 8 years
Such excellent dog's they deserve to be bred with longevity of basal breeds
Also the health issues, then there is AKC, Ente Nazionale della Cinofilia (the Italian Breed Standard)
Do we care more for standard or health and longevity

When you pick hunting dogs its based on ability ?
Well these are the thoughts that I ponder pre breeding 🤷‍♂️
If you only get 8 years out of a breed it should be discontinued or hybridized imo

The breed standard changed and they focus on appearance and gait. AKC and CKC is a joke and people who know dogs will agree.

It's funny when you see the handlers running with them around the track and people clapping. If it's a smart well trained dog ,why is it on a leash?

They did it to the german shepherd and they sacrificed strong bones and ability for rake

The low haunches of the Greman Sheppard and the hip dysplasia
Agreed there are issues there, although I have looked into other "wolf" types

Belgian Malinos or Dutch Sheep dogs

The one stumbling point is the skull shape which 🤷‍♂️ It does eliminate the need for ear cropping maybe

Also is the natural bobtail gene

Breeds that can present C189G mutation:

Australian Shepherd
Austrian Pinscher
Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog
Braque du Bourbonnais (Bourbonnais Pointer)
Braque Francais (Savoy Sheepdog)
Brazilian Terrier
Brittany
Croatian Sheepdog
Danish–Swedish Farmdog[4]
Dobermann[6]
Donggyeongi[9]
English Shepherd[citation needed]
Jack Russell Terrier
Karelian Bear Dog[4]
Labrador Retriever[10]
Mountain Cur[citation needed]
Mudi[4]
Pembroke Welsh Corgi[7]
Polish Lowland Sheepdog
Pyrenean Shepherd[4]
Rottweiler[6]
Schipperke
Spanish Water Dog
Swedish Vallhund[4]

The tail is like the chow... more to read
The hind quarter carries the same in relation to the sheppard although the Great Dane is a fine German Breed imo not unlike the doberman and rotti

What are you hunting? My shepherd will take bitter cold weather, has great vision and hearing,go fetch a duck, get the flyers, bring me my boots ,run coyotes and foxes and anything else off and he will make sure the grandkids don't roam off and he won't let strangers out of their car,no one can come in the house, i never lock the door. I would never get a dog by fad or looks. Do you have a Cane you wish to find a male for? You can bring her to a breeder and have a good look.

They name the gsd dysplastic but of all the breeds they are the ones that get tested the most so it's not actually true if you get one from a reputable source. The belgian is a great breed but unless you are willing to drain it's energy a few times a day it will be destructive lol. I couldn't meet its physical requirements . Do you live in a cold area?

I need a live stock guardian thats the Corso she excels at that task
Previously I had a great mix dog that was a great tracker of large game, she would roll in poo smell around and take me right to a downed deer. Natural Ability of a hunter
The one I have now for a lab sheepdog mix is pretty fierce not done much hunting and tracking anymore been a few years

With the Corso I feel it can be improved health and longevity
With a 750lb psi bite they are like lions, thats where retaining the skull shape is important
Very intelligent also know the differance between pet and predator

Hot humid summers and cold wet winters
Play time is important for large young dogs agree fetch is my go to for running the zoomies out of em
We go for beach run walks and water retrieving

You currently have some pups around ?

Times have changed so the usefulness they bred the dogs for is no longer an issue,in the early days they would want a hardy one that didn't eat much and served a purpose, today couch potatoes buy working dogs and complain they are too much of a handful, lazy people shouldn't get one. I always see people with breeds they aren't suited for.

Water is great for them. Mine has such a high prey drive I toss the stick and he's relentless so I took a broom handle and drilled it to put a rope through the end and tie another stick or toy to it and drag it fast in circles and toss the rope like fly fishing and it tires him out, then he's calm and relaxed .

No pups, i shut down the kennel because I was always worried who bought the pups and if they would have a good life. My lab died a year and half ago and I only have one now.at one time i had 13

Mine doesn't have the sloped back and is 50 lbs heavier than the norm but he has no bone issues so far

Personally I believe the short lifespans of dogs in general is due to all the shots, vaccines and shitty food people give them .

People tend to treat dogs like humans and expect human reactions and emotions, those people are batshit crazy ,they are the ones you see walking the dog with it 5 feet ahead and choking itself on the leash and both them and the dog hate the walk. I laugh my ass off because it only takes a short time to make them stop but people do it for years and years.

Obesity in K9 is very common also lack of exercise, some good points
