Attempting a dal makani from scratch today.

Typical shop didn’t have dry kidney beans so I’m substituting them with pinto beans.
One of the best Indian dishes I’ve ever been introduced to!
dal tadka is nice too . wholesome . i could do with a bowl to help my body

lucky bastad having a place to farm

veg tastes so much better when you grow them yourself

i remember the spuds of old
the land is a flood plain , and only really any good for sheep lol.

it is a blessing, but it is extreme at times. the wind can be a pain, the soil is like concrete, mines underneath, coal shafts , all kinds of obstacles .... we just finding faults and then trying our best to counter the issues with the limited equipment and money .

my mate works hard but he does crazy stuff. rushes , and feels like he is in a race of some kind i feel. i nearly buried him yesterday for standing on my new asparagus shoots , while he was trying to cable tie a big wind blocking sheet , in the middle of a fucking gail.

i just had to say' this is craziness, fuck off and do it when its dry and no wind'

we will get there in the end i learn to be more patient , and my mate will learn to take more care

for potatoes , we could just buy ready to go soil mix , but it would cost more than the value of the potatoes , and you have to rotate crops and such. we are trying our best to use existing manures composts and soils. we did buy some budget bulk top soil last year when we started to help pack out the beds .

sungolds , never let me down. my go to tomato , just ahead of gardeners delight for uk . even outdoors raw sungold does well in the uk . i have also one called 'honeycomb' this year which is a similar f1 hybrid, that is meant to be as good

sungolds almost taste like grapes on some days. the best as a fruit straight off the vine
