If you like Johah, got to study Nahum. If you can hear Nahum, got to study Revelation.

Nahum 1 NKJV

God’s Mercy and Judgment

1 The [a]burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

God’s Wrath on His Enemies

2 God is jealous, and the Lord avenges;
The Lord avenges and is furious.
The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries,
And He reserves wrath for His enemies;
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
And will not at all acquit the wicked.

The Lord has His way
In the whirlwind and in the storm,
And the clouds are the dust of His feet.
4 He rebukes the sea and makes it dry,
And dries up all the rivers.
Bashan and Carmel wither,
And the flower of Lebanon wilts.
5 The mountains quake before Him,
The hills melt,
And the earth [b]heaves at His presence,
Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.

6 Who can stand before His indignation?
And who can endure the fierceness of His anger?
His fury is poured out like fire,
And the rocks are thrown down by Him.

7 The Lord is good,
A stronghold in the day of trouble;
And He knows those who trust in Him.
8 But with an overflowing flood
He will make an utter end of its place,
And darkness will pursue His enemies.

9 What do you [c]conspire against the Lord?
He will make an utter end of it.
Affliction will not rise up a second time.
10 For while tangled like thorns,
And while drunken like drunkards,
They shall be devoured like stubble fully dried.
11 From you comes forth one
Who plots evil against the Lord,
A [d]wicked counselor.

12 Thus says the Lord:

“Though they are [e]safe, and likewise many,
Yet in this manner they will be cut down
When he passes through.
Though I have afflicted you,
I will afflict you no more;
13 For now I will break off his yoke from you,
And burst your bonds apart.”

14 The Lord has given a command concerning you:
[f]“Your name shall be perpetuated no longer.
Out of the house of your gods
I will cut off the carved image and the molded image.
I will dig your grave,
For you are vile.”[g]

15 Behold, on the mountains
The feet of him who brings good tidings,
Who proclaims peace!
O Judah, keep your appointed feasts,
Perform your vows.
For the [h]wicked one shall no more pass through you;
He is utterly cut off.

Nahum 2 NKJV

The Destruction of Nineveh

2 He[a] who scatters has come up before your face.
Man the fort!
Watch the road!
Strengthen your flanks!
Fortify your power mightily.

2 For the Lord will restore the excellence of Jacob
Like the excellence of Israel,
For the emptiers have emptied them out
And ruined their vine branches.

3 The shields of his mighty men are made red,
The valiant men are in scarlet.
The chariots come with flaming torches
In the day of his preparation,
And [b]the spears are brandished.
4 The chariots rage in the streets,
They jostle one another in the broad roads;
They seem like torches,
They run like lightning.

5 He remembers his nobles;
They stumble in their walk;
They make haste to her walls,
And the defense is prepared.
6 The gates of the rivers are opened,
And the palace is dissolved.
7 [c]It is decreed:
She shall be led away captive,
She shall be brought up;
And her maidservants shall lead her as with the voice of doves,
Beating their breasts.

8 Though Nineveh of old was like a pool of water,
Now they flee away.
[d]“Halt! Halt!” they cry;
But no one turns back.
9 [e]Take spoil of silver!
Take spoil of gold!
There is no end of treasure,
Or wealth of every desirable prize.
10 She is empty, desolate, and waste!
The heart melts, and the knees shake;
Much pain is in every side,
And all their faces [f]are drained of color.

11 Where is the dwelling of the lions,
And the feeding place of the young lions,
Where the lion walked, the lioness and lion’s cub,
And no one made them afraid?
12 The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs,
[g]Killed for his lionesses,
Filled his caves with prey,
And his dens with [h]flesh.

13 “Behold, I am against you,” says the Lord of hosts, “I will burn [i]your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions; I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall be heard no more.”

The Woe of Nineveh

3 Woe to the bloody city!
It is all full of lies and robbery.
Its [a]victim never departs.
2 The noise of a whip
And the noise of rattling wheels,
Of galloping horses,
Of [b]clattering chariots!
3 Horsemen charge with bright sword and glittering spear.
There is a multitude of slain,
A great number of bodies,
Countless corpses—
They stumble over the corpses—
4 Because of the multitude of [c]harlotries of the [d]seductive harlot,
The mistress of sorceries,
Who sells nations through her harlotries,
And families through her sorceries.

5 “Behold, I am against you,” says the Lord of hosts;
“I will lift your skirts over your face,
I will show the nations your nakedness,
And the kingdoms your shame.
6 I will cast abominable filth upon you,
Make you vile,[e]
And make you a spectacle.
7 It shall come to pass that all who look upon you
Will flee from you, and say,
‘Nineveh is laid waste!
Who will bemoan her?’
Where shall I seek comforters for you?”

8 Are you better than No[f] Amon
That was situated by the [g]River,
That had the waters around her,
Whose rampart was the sea,
Whose wall was the sea?
9 Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength,
And it was boundless;
Put and Lubim were [h]your helpers.
10 Yet she was carried away,
She went into captivity;
Her young children also were dashed to pieces
At the head of every street;
They cast lots for her honorable men,
And all her great men were bound in chains.
11 You also will be drunk;
You will be hidden;
You also will seek refuge from the enemy.

12 All your strongholds are fig trees with ripened figs:
If they are shaken,
They fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Surely, your people in your midst are women!
The gates of your land are wide open for your enemies;
Fire shall devour the bars of your gates.

14 Draw your water for the siege!
Fortify your strongholds!
Go into the clay and tread the mortar!
Make strong the brick kiln!
15 There the fire will devour you,
The sword will cut you off;
It will eat you up like a locust.

Make yourself many—like the locust!
Make yourself many—like the swarming locusts!
16 You have multiplied your merchants more than the stars of heaven.
The locust plunders and flies away.
17 Your commanders are like swarming locusts,
And your generals like great grasshoppers,
Which camp in the hedges on a cold day;
When the sun rises they flee away,
And the place where they are is not known.

18 Your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria;
Your nobles rest in the dust.
Your people are scattered on the mountains,
And no one gathers them.
19 Your injury has no healing,
Your wound is severe.
All who hear news of you
Will clap their hands over you,
For upon whom has not your wickedness passed continually?

Revelation 18 NKJV

The Fall of Babylon the Great

18 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. 2 And he cried [a]mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the [b]abundance of her luxury.”

4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins [c]have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6 Render to her just as she rendered [d]to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. 7 In the measure that she glorified herself and lived [e]luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ 8 Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who [f]judges her.

The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall

9 “The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, 10 standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’

11 “And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12 merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13 and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. 14 The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have [g]gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15 The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16 and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17 For in one hour such great riches [h]came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18 and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’

19 “They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she [i]is made desolate.’

20 “Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you [j]holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”

Finality of Babylon’s Fall

21 Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore. 22 The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore. 23 The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.”

@revegeta666 do you have those giant flying cockroaches too there?
when i once visited barcelona i saw a gigantic one on the subway, it looked at me like it was about to ask me for some change...
Not where I live no. In the city there are cocroaches of all sizes, never seen any particularly huge one though, like those in south america. Those that belong here are the size of a small date, and reddish. Then there are the american ones which are very small and black. All cockroaches fly if I'm not mistaken.

We do have pretty big rats though :ROFLMAO:

That's 20 km from my house. It was a pretty big deal when these first appeared. They come from Africa if I'm not mistaken.

According to my study Bible, Naum was a prophet from a city called Elkosh. There were several cities called Elkosh, one of which was several miles north of Ninevah.

The words ending in "-ite" just mean relating to a certain place. For example a person from Israel will be called an Isrealite.

Excerpt from Pastor Chuck Smith's (CA, USA) "The Word for Today" study Bible NKJV:

Introduction to Nahum:

Nahum was a prophet of whom we know very little. His name means comforter. He was from the city called Elkosh. There were several cities called Elkosh, one of which was several miles north of Ninevah. If Nahum as from this particular location its is possible that he may have been taken captive by the Asyrians and brought there. The city of Capernaum in the Galilee region, where Jesus spent most of His time in ministry, is also thought by some to be where Nahum was from. Capernaum means "the city of Nahum." But we really don't know for sure.

The prophecies of Nahum were all directed against Ninevah, which was the capital city of the Assyrian Empire. The Assyrians had ovethrown the northern tribes of Isreal. They were an extremely cruel people, who torture and humiliated anyone they captured to provoke fear in other nations.

In the eighth century BC, the prophet Jonah had gone to Ninevah and had preached against their horrible and ungodly practices, pronouncing God's judgement upon them. At that time the people of Ninevah had repented, and God spared them from imminent judgement. About 150 years after Jonah, in the late seventh century BC, the people of Ninevah had completely turne away from God and had gotten even worse. So God raised up the prophet Nahum to once again pronounce His judgement.

This time there was no repentance; and shortly after the prophecy of Nahum, the Babylonians conquered the Assyrian Empire, and the great city of Ninevah was destroyed. In fact, it was so thoroughly destroyed that for many years critics said Ninevah was a mythical city that never really existed. Eventually the ruins of the city were found, confirming the accuacy of the Bible.

Elkoshite is properly pronounced with a long "i" so it doesn't sound like you are from the dumps. :smoke:

I have an opossum under my shed right now about the size of one of those african rats. They are rodents too I think. Need to borrow a trap to get them out. My neighbors trapped one and there is still another out there. I have watched this one under my shed grow over the past few weeks. I had a couple tomatoes I tossed out and he was eating coffee grounds I threw in the yard. Will release him once it warms back up. I am trying to be kind, its his land too.

They come from Africa if I'm not mistaken.
the one i encountered was the size of a chicken wing. probably a senior citizen.
great pic you took there with the sparrow!

-3 here today. had to scrape down the shivamobile this morning of all the solid ice . i hate winter and i had a shit day. i had a moan at my customer .... the dog of the tenant took a turd on the floor again and i had to move it and also some work i completed last week is damaged already . i take pride in my work, so i get pissed off at damage and disrespect
Sorry to hear about that. The wind is spinning that Arctic air around! Had 35 mph this morning. Glad I didn't do leaf removal yesterday.

My dogs have been terrible with this cold. Had 3 accidents by my big dog had to clean up, but may have been food sensitivity. The miniature daschunds really hate the cold, and had a pile dumped by the door for me to pick up this morning. I have to clean up in the middle of the night sometimes, its tough, but I count it as my fault usually since I have control over the animals and should take better care to manage them.

Was it negligence or on purpose that caused it to be damaged or was it normal stuff?

Elkoshite is properly pronounced with a long "i" so it doesn't sound like you are from the dumps. :smoke:

I have an opossum under my shed right now about the size of one of those african rats. They are rodents too I think. Need to borrow a trap to get them out. My neighbors trapped one and there is still another out there. I have watched this one under my shed grow over the past few weeks. I had a couple tomatoes I tossed out and he was eating coffee grounds I threw in the yard. Will release him once it warms back up. I am trying to be kind, its his land too.
nothing like some coffeegrounds to start the day.
