Hey, yknow...I've been reading some of the SamSkunkman stickies (I have his Thunk for next year - I doubt I can finish it, but I'd like to impregnate a lady with something) and he makes a very valid point about the somewhat stagnant state of the gene pool for the last 20 years or so.
I think he called it "Simple re-shuffling", and it struck a chord. I think I might use some contacts here and see if I can find some true wild landrace seeds.
I've had a couple of people (even a breeder on the 'bay) ask me if I could source some Japanese landraces...and I think I might make the effort over the next few months, seeing as its harvest time soon.
I've smoked some (I think I mentioned earlier in the thread that I got gifted with a shoebox full of supposed landrace Hokkaido weed from a pretty reliable oldschool local stoner) and I even germed the seeds! Unfortunately I didn't get to finish them. I stashed about 50 seeds somewhere and promptly forgot where I put them. This was a couple of house-moves and a few years ago. I'll see what I can do, anyway.
We'll see.

Can't find the camera (again). Went up, excellent progress from last week.

Sample HB. It smells sexual.
:rasta:

Also got some SW, I accidentaly split a branch almost right off last week, didn't tape it so it didn't heal. As it is now, its the first weed that I haven't liked the smell of...its still offensive.

Had a look at the trichs on the HB and SW @60x, some slightly milky but most clear.

wait, what? it smells sexual? did I miss something?
I think you better wash that thing with Mr.Soap before you smoke it...
seriously though bro, you have probably one of the toughest outdoor grows on IC (go check out 500+) on a mountain and with battling monkeys and shit with the flip flops of death trippin on homemade shroooooms.
you rock! :spank:
This Kali's for you

HB smells sexual - are you sure it isn't cheese hehehe.

Landraces - do it! I've got one (said to be from Australia) and I swear by it. It's accustomed to similar latitude as Japan. Every seed fem, every girl hermies late in the season at the base so you cut 80% of the plant all seedless off the top and it self seeds the popcorn on the bottom for the next year.

In the right season, the plants live, reveg, and turn into freaking monsters!

They'll also live several seasons without harvesting too, so it was discovered when a 'busted patch' was left alone for several years.

This'll spread like weed, and it is very strong uplifting smoke.

Got F1's of it bred with big bud. Sat doms that grow well indoors and finish in 8 weeks. Out-performs many strains bred to perform given same conditions, outdoors and in, and is stronger than most. 1 of 10 f1's will hermie, the smaller indica dom stragglers, I just cull em early now. Also, it doesn't smell, you hear that indoor growers, no filter required.

These plants and f1's (f1's all fem seed too) perform so differently to other strains I've played with, I'm sure the old guy who said it was a landrace was correct. I've had it nearly a decade, swear by it being good regardless of where it's origins lie.

One day I'll share it with some friends who run a seedbank in Europe. Then you can all enjoy a strain you can get to grow and repopulate itself in the wild without heavy seeding and males ruining the harvest. And of course the smell free f1 performers for under lights...

btw - you don't say a branch broke - you blame te monkeys!

Hey guys, thanks for dropping in. :D

CD: Thanks bro, I don’t think I have the toughest grow, I only have about 10 plants, but guerilla growing can be…inconvenient. I tend to make it harder on myself by wearing flip-flops, drinking beer and eating shrooms before hiking up there. Lol

I’ve had pretty good luck with the weather so far too, not too much drought, not too much rain.
Last years spot it was so much easier to access my plants, I could hit them in the morning on the way to work if I wanted to.
Next year I’m probably going to have to have at least another patch that’s easier to get to.
Of course I still want to use this spot, with a little more amendments, it should be good soil for next year. I think it’s like a curry – they usually taste better the next day.

MrFista: Thanks for the info. Strains from Australia interest me. :chin:

Thanks CD, the taste, stone etc of the SW buds...nice, but they'll get better...too early to harvest yet but they certainly have strength and character...will do a proper report when theyre harvested and properly cured for 3-4 weeks.

edit: the grinder is the (big breath)MediumSpacecaseTitaniumPollenCatcher...and the shrooms are still working... :rasta:

Hey all, just saying hello. I got another little glass bubbler in the mail yesterday, its pretty nifty. Yet to try it out, but I did use my glass spoon pipe to smoke a little hash that I made by collecting the trichs from my grinder and pressing into a tiny little block.
Hope to hit the mountain this afternoon, probably get some pics. Things to do on my list are:
1. Inspect all buds on all plants for dead leaves (may help to cause rot/mold) and check for signs of bugs and any mold.
2. Give them some bug/mold spray.
3. Give the HB and SW some molasses (nutes?), the rest molasses and some nutes. Will decide whether to give HB & SW nutes after checking condition (looking burnt or doing pretty good? No nutes. Prob. take another 2-3 weeks, not getting fat yet? A dose of nutes)
4. Prob. take another sample bud from each of the above to check the trichs with microscope. I’m pretty sure they’ll go for another 10-14 days.

So that’s where I’m at. Still got some sample bud left – very nice. :D

Hey Sai, just a reminder...
pick only those samples that will allow for more airflow to the rest of what you want to finish. More air = Less mold and rot! maybe take some from lower central mass..

CD: Thanks, I wasn't sure where the best place to take a sample was, thats a good idea. These next few weeks waiting are going to go so slooooow, lol...
Luckily theres been good weather and the typhoon didn't end up being too bad at all. I'd say that any mold that pops up is either going to be from dead leaves or the plant would have to be a mold magnet genetically...I keep saying it, but mold burnt me last year and its my only fear atm. I just have to keep on top of the bugs as I have been doing and everything should be smooth sailing...famous last words :bashhead:
Thanks for saying Hi, Mrs Babba!

Smurf: Lol, yeah, any excuse...and actually no, I'm not using kelp, instead of making teas I'm being lazy and just using store-bought organic nutes and molasses. I really couldn't be farked this season. Maybe next year. Thanks for the tip though, lots of seaweed here. :)

I'll post some pics of my new hardware...up until now I've always just used home-made bongs (brass conepiece, straylian style) and destroyed the evidence by melting them. Paranoid much? :D I try to keep shit relatively discreet regarding paraphenalia.

Maybe a small bottle of liquid kelp from the store will see you thru to finish, even some soluble kelp powder or flakes,,, nothing flash, no need for a tea,, just add it to what you have already, definitely worth the effort tho. (damn I sound like a sales rep) :bashhead:

smurf: I'll look into it, but I can't promise anything. :chin: heh...I know kelp is a great additive, but I doubt I'll be bothered this year unless I see a bottle at the right time. Don't mistake my laziness as arrogance. :D

kalle: Hey buddy, glad you like it, more to come. :) Snow White and I are getting well acquainted. :rasta:

Just thought I'd post this, too:

Saibai - Free and Healing for Ten Months, Fourteen Days, 2 Hours and 46 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 16 Days and 14 Hours, by avoiding the use of 4787 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me 84,876yen.

Thats 85,000yen or about 4,000 Denmark Kroner, or about 950 Aussie dollars (or about 800 mickey-mouse dollars (snigger)) that I've saved!
This is how I justify spending money on paraphenalia etc. :D
Although, the little bubbler that arrived yesterday was free... :asskick:

I'm not that worried about the money, it comes and goes...I'm more happy that I'm not paying to kill myself slowly and painfully through cigarettes anymore.
I still want to smoke a cigarette sometimes though. :bashhead:
