Rubbermaid Tubs Garden Complete

Do you have a thermometer in the container at plant level? One thing I've found in both of mine is that heat can be a real problem. It took me a while to adjust the fan and passive intakes to get effective heat exhaust.

If I were setting up the lights using a light bar, I'd mount two ropes to the back side of the bar, one at each end. Make holes in the top of the unit to run the ropes through, adjust the height of the lights and tie the two ropes together on the top of the unit.

What wattage of CFLs do you have in the box? What dimensions are your complete unit? How many watts per square foot does this give you? Are they warm (soft white) or cool spectrum? For vegging, you want cool spectrum (daylight or sunlight) bulbs.

Way cool box. Just use a couple of these stickers to secure it.

When it's closed & the lights are on, it sure looks like it should have those stickers plastered all over it!

I know, I was thinking if you ever saw the po-po in your driveway [ gawd forbid ] you could throw a digital alarm clock on top of it and tell them to clear a six block radius.

that would simply result in bigger charges, more likelyhood of getting caught. And they would probably cut off your penis to ensure you cannot pass on your DNA.

hi ambre!

very nice project!

how tall is it?

pretty kitty, too.

please don't take this the wrong way, since i'm afraid of electricity...

are all those wires 'safe'? i'm asking because i don't know, not to hassle you.

i like it!

btw you should have got a multiple light fixture so u wouldent have so many wires comin out of the bitch!.

No problem about asking questions!

The lights are not a safety issue. I took the pictures before I completed the exterior, but all those connections are now covered with electrical tape. The sockets are pre-wired and sealed in rubber by the manufacturer, so they are perfect for these types of applications. The sealed sockets allow all connections to be on the outside of the container, not on the inside where the water risk is.

Using a fixture would have reduced the vertical growing room by the thickness of the fixture, the height of a "Y" splitter, and part of the height of the bulb. Mounting them horizontally like this uses only the diameter of the bulb plus about 1/2" of space above the bulb for cooling & insulation. The horizontal mount also uses the light quite efficiently since the light primarily shines out to the sides and not the ends of the bulb; I have reflective material just above the lights to aim that part of the light down, as well.

The total height of the unit is 30.5" not including the scrubber/fan; 40" including the scrubber/fan.

Good explanation, but i would have personally gone with the multiple bulb fixture just for stealth factor. I like the carbon scrubber you got going. With 6 23 W 2 (biggest size rubbermaid) stacked and. 1 6"x3" passive duct for intake and 1 70-100cfm pc fans blowing thru a rubermaid carbon filter. I would do one or 2 scrogged plants. Expect mabey an ounce or 2 after 100 days from seed.

The whole setup with nirvana seeds would probably be under 100 bucks (w/timer) and cost 25-30 to run. Not bad for a nice oz or 2.

POd-

I'm not concerned with stealth for these units. I own my own home and they are in a bedroom I can lock when needed. I just wanted to expand my available growing space so I had room for experimenting and playing, but I didn't want to set the entire room up as a grow because my Mom comes to visit occasionally and that's the room she stays in when she comes.

The larger unit holds 4-8 small LST traned plants in a recirculating bubbler system (the recirc bubbler system is the current experiment) and the small unit is used to sprout seeds and root clones.

I built a stand out of 1" PVC pipe to hold the larger one. The reservoir goes on the floor under the rubbermaid garden and the top of the stand is used as a pulley system to raise the lid and hold it up when I need to access the plants. I can easily lift or tilt the lid on the small garden, but not on the larger one, so a lifting system was a necessity.

I expect that, if I ever stop experimenting and actually let the plants in the unit grow unmolested, that I could get a couple of ounces from it every two months or so. The recirc bubbler running in it now is the prototype for the one I'm building to replace the Ebb & Flow unit I had in my main flowering garden. This change will put all of my plants in bubblers - some stand-alone units and some on recirculating systems. All I need to find is a shallow container the right size for a small reservoir and I'll have my mothers/veg unit on a recirculating system, too.

a little veg rubber maid and a stacked flower one with around 130 watts in it. pull mabey 1.5 oz's every 2 months in soil.

Would be nice if you live in a little 1 or 2 bdrm appt. But if i had a house i would just use a 600hps or something pratical and with good yeild.

Actually, Mom knows I toke. Can't say she approves, but she doesn't condemn, either. I told her I toked back when I was about 20, so she didn't discover it the hard way. My Mom is one of my best friends.

Meow back to you from the one on my lap!

My mom brought one of my leaves to a local nursery because she didnt know what kind of plant it was. They did and let her know, and yep she was pissed. Gotta love teenagers.

I would have done well to keep this in mind,, as now I am running into the height issues you avoided by your mount system, I will change that now,, a light burn or two later,, :pointlaug
I'll keep the fixture and hang it so the lights are horizontally placed.
Then it's off to la casa de pot again, for another fixture, lol
I want to keep the lights on my C99xPanama Red......... she's a beauty.. (thanx Wally!! )
and Ambre?

Thank You for this thread :respect:

Hey ambre what do you say it costs to run your 1veg / 1flower rubbermaid grows? Add like 5 bucks to your power bill a month or what?
