veggies coming in big time, keeping us busy processing and canning;
picture.php

^ all sorts of heirloom tomatoes
really digging this "mutant egg yolk" that is similar to a green grape - thanks hatchbrew!!

also been out in the woods foraging:
picture.php

^ king bolete mushroom aka porcini
real nice, mild flavor and not slimey. stems remind me of a very firm puffball, caps are a lil more soft and the pores are even softer but super flavorful

picture.php

^ towering nugget spear of Miles Bubba Kush x Flo-Scout

picture.php

^ nanner alert on the Miles Bubba Kush x Flo-scout
lots of crosses using the flo-scout male are showing hermy tendencies... kind of predictable with those cookies in the mix. about right on time with maturity tho so not too big of a deal
also found some nanners on the Giganticus Indicus in the light dep, buds are huge tho and it's coming up on 8 full weeks so i think it's right on time for most of them... no visible seeds in the light dep weed so that's nice

picture.php

^ seeing some mild damage on some lower buds in the light dep, looks like thrips damage but i can't find a single thrip in the place and i've looked a few times pretty good.... can't really find any damage that seems to actually affect the plant, but also can't really identify what made this damage
just breaking even on that one i guess...

Boletus Edulis are excellent & highly prized. I like to slice 'em & fry 'em in some butter, just go with salt & pepper, maybe a little parmesan. I need to get out there & find some.

Sliced, they dry & store well, too, if you happen into a mess of them.

just got home from collecting, got about 15 lbs of porcini aka boletus edulis aka king bolete

also i THINK we found a bunch of old man of the woods as well.
EDIT: not old man of the woods, but hawks wings instead, sarcodon imbricatus - edible as well, not as choice as the old man of the woods... but got another 10-20 lbs of "hawk wing" aka "scaly hedgehog"

Watch for these in aspen & mixed woods-

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leccinum_aurantiacum

Easy to identify. They turn black when cooked but are quite good. They're quickly riddled with fly larvae so only small specimens are edible.

The only sarcodons I ever found were the bitter lookalikes of sarcodon imbricatus... Just a little bite will clue you in...

i've seen literally MILLIONS of thsoe leccinums in the woods by me, have read that they aren't prime eating and can cause stomach issues, so i hve strayed away from them in favor of the boletes and others like puffball

Really nice pics, that amanita one especially. I've always looked for those but never found one. Plants are cranking along, got an efficient setup going as usual.

So is that a magic mushroom? I don't think there are any around Denver here, but I saw some in the mountains.

depends on your definition of magic
it's not a traditionally "psychedelic" mushroom... more of the eat it and go rape and pillage and plunder like a viking in berzerker mode.
no thanks

I was offered some Amanita at a concert, from Your description i am glad we waited to find some L-25.

Garden is looking great . I don't know how you have time to forage through the forest, with the workload you have. Funny how people think hippies are lazy, while they work a 9-5.

The Brightest Meteor Shower In Recorded Human History Is Happening

There is going to be a meteor shower on 12th of August, 2017. According to astronomers this will be the brightest shower in the recorded human history. It will light up the night sky and some of these might even be visible during the day. This meteor shower is being considered as once in a lifetime opportunity as the next meteor shower of such kind will be after 96 years.

The Perseid meteor shower, one of the brighter meteor showers of the year, occurs every year between July 17 and August 24. The shower tends to peak around August 9-13.

The best time to view the Perseids, and most other meteor showers, is when the sky is the darkest. Most astronomers suggest that depending on the Moon’s phase, the best time to view meteor showers is right before dawn.

The Perseids can be seen in the Northern Hemisphere. Look between the radiant, which will be in the north-east part of the sky, and the zenith (the point in the sky directly above you).
