I prechecked plants indoors before putting them outside. They were all really good. OG , Maui, Mango Haze, Nevilles haze LA Conf, Sweet Tooth, and several others. They were all very strong. I chuck all the rest. They each had their own good high

vermontman, how is your potency versus indoor?

Zitz, haha I'm always positive about an extra harvest. It is easier for me during the winter. I only do two things differently; I don't train the buds because height usually isn't a factor, and I keep them in pots so they can come indoors during bad weather. I don't have the usual summer/fall problems. Bad weather does include tornado and intense wind though.

Elmer Bud, do you stick with sativas during winter? Also, is the winter grow purely for fun or necessity?

Donald Mallard, how late were you taking your winter grows? Do you consider it more trouble than it is worth?

So when do you good folks put your winter plants out to flower? I try to flower from February to May. This gives me about 17 weeks to finish a plant. Is this about what everyone does?

Hi Samson!
I find the potency to be similar out to in. But I think doing test plants outside in winter here. the high UV probably helps fix potency in the genetics, making it a great breeding tool. The plant above was kept outside from seed is now about 11 weeks old total. Sativas are great to start outside here in early Nov. to Nov 30 with 11.5 to 10.5 hours sunshine. Now the day length is getting longer so now is closer to spring plant Fall harvest.

Its difficult and near impossible to get sativa to ripen properly when the daylight hours are increasing ,
some flower , but never quite finish before they reveg ,

hybrids sure ,, i can get them fully mature that time of year , but its not worth doing with pure sativa ...

yep Donald once you have the hang of photoperiod, its all about timing, :)

Vermontman I want only pollen or seeds here in Santa Rosa Ca. , home of the Emerald Cup . I can buy at my local dispensary over 101 strains , not counting duplicate strains . Pollen not available for sale . This year I am growing now Bohdi s Acapulco Gold to cross with clones of Barney's Acapulco Gold .

That sounds like a good solid plan. You might want to line breed Bohdi seed to keep it pure also if you haven't already? Just a thought. Barney's Acapulco gold pics look a lot like Preservation dudes A.G. I was running.

They Look Like Fat Leaved Thai

They Look Like Fat Leaved Thai

I can stare at Donald's Laos plants all day.

I remember getting Thai Sticks year after year starting in the early 70s. Every other kind of bud was changing all the time. There were so many kinds of Colombians, and it seemed every batch was different. The look, smell, and effect of the Thai sticks seemed so consistent.

Being interested in the magic of these plants, I was trying to grow any seeds I found, and it was not uncommon to find a seed now and then in my favorite weed at the time, almost always the Thai Sticks. Those sticks may have been from different strains because I remember a few distinctly different types of Thai Stick plant leaves. Those Laos plants look like what I would have called fat leaved Thai plants.

Just to finish my old age repeated ramblings... The Thai sticks started coming in different forms in the late 70s, fatter ones with red thread instead of the original small flat thin grey hemp or bamboo material. I never thought the red thread sticks were as intense or as good, but the quality and potency of the high was still excellent. I could imagine a good argument for the less speedy high, which they were. One time I saw some gold colored bud on the skinny sticks, as gold as Colombian Gold. It was as good and speedy as the original skinny sticks without the red thread, which it did not have. My last batch was heavily seeded and loose buds, but probably from a compressed brick. It was awesome good, and I kick myself for not preserving those genetics. They were very skinny leaf plants, looking more like Gypsy Thai plants, and the only ones I grew successfully, under the first HID bulbs I ever had.

Oh man, those were the days, smoking weed at it's zenith of potency. It's never been the same since the late 70s.

Anyway, I just can't stop staring at plants that look like Thai weed, and yearning for the old Thai Stick high.

Donald - I hope they are intensely trippy, soaring, and nervous system buzzing, as if your teeth and body were falling asleep like your leg feels when sitting too long with your legs folded but buzzing/tingling at a higher frequency, as those old school Thai Sticks. Make lots of seeds, my friend, just in case.

Cheers guys ,
Tb , the seeds for them came from one of those red string fat sticks ,
our friend said it was the strongest sativa he has had ,
and he is no stranger to strong pot ,
so we live in hope that the reproduction could be as good ...
certainly some fun genetics to play with ..

Baked beanz , no haze in these girls ,
might show some similar growth and the end product may also be a bit similar ,
according to mr bushweed ...

ill get more pics in a few weeks vermontman ,
im really enjoying growing these girls ,
very pretty , graceful plants ...
just starting to show sex now ...

Good post. I will amend it by saying zenith of quality rather than potency. I think that is what you were thinking.:dance013:

How many double thai do you have seeded. I have 6 plants, in which only one was a female. Out of the 6 though, only one male had thinner leaves like that. Are you experiencing the same thing, or are they all lanky? Mine got chopped at 14 weeks, and wasn't even close to done budding (seeded her, not for smoking)
