Red_Greenery's Handyman's DIY Grow Tub

hey dbahsee...
as for intake...cut holes in the bottom rubbermaid near the floor with twice the area of the exhaust...no intake fan needed. The neg pressure caused by your ex fan will pull fresh air through the passive holes you cut in the bottom of the lower rubbermaid. Called a passive intake...check the begining of the thread for reds intake design and pics.

as far as wiring a fan...all i did was use an old cell phone charger...cut off the adapter for the cell phone, seperate and expose the wires about an inch down, connect to your fan wires...plug it in an make sure it powers the fan...if it doent work, switch the wires and try again. tape up the exposed wires and your Good To Go. Too easy.

good luck...all the info you need is in this thread but, PM me if ya have any more problems ill try to help ya out. good luck

For a good exhaust the intake hole should be 2 times the size of the exhaust hole...

a 6" fan would have 2-6" holes for passive intake...
or 4-3" Holes
or 6-2" holes
0r even 12-1" holes
it just needs to equal twice the exhaust

This First one is inside the box and the seedlings are about 2-3 weeks old i started them outside and then bought them in as soon as they sprouted. Ive got a 7 inch fan in there for when the lights are on or off running all the time and i water them once a day in the evening before the lighting starts it 12/12 cycle

Now this pic is how I have them growing at the moment in this small version of the setup. I wasnt too sure if it was a good idea to permanently attach the lights to the top rubbermaid container so I'll use this way till they get a lil bigger.

Can anyone tell me if i should be putting 2 elbow pvc pipes on the left bottom side of the box since my exhaust fan is the box on the right

And finally this is what they look like the 2 at the end were some i left outside for a week after i took the first set indoors. I took em out cus i figure i can get more plants into the box itself . Can anyone tell me if im doing anything wrong with this initial grow. from what ive seen it seems like i need to have a passive intake setup

If anyone sees anything wrong please let me know my temps with the lights are 30.9 c and without the lights its 25.3. just tap water is all I've been giving them so far. Im confused as to what my next logical move should be to get this frist time project off to the races lol I have read so many different pposts on various forums that im confused as to what my next step is ? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Let's see...

3 Rubbermaid tubs - $6 each so that's $18 Total

A 3 fixture vanity light $12 from home depot

2 computer fans from scrapped computers. - $15 each from Radio Shak

2 plastic boxes with lids - $4 each

15 feet of 4" ducting - $11

Emergency Blanket - $3

A couple rolls of duct tape - $3

various bits and pieces $10

Plexiglass or Glass light shield $10

So how does $96 bucks sound? I actually built if for less because I scrounged up most of the junk.

I picked up two pack of 3x26W cfl for $15 and the 6X42W were $6 each so the lighting total is $15+$36 = $51

The grand total is $137 including lights for both veg and grow.

I remember issuing a 3oz challenge for under $100 bucks building this design.

Did anyone take the crown?

Let's see your tubs!!!!

Good to see you back red! This thread is what got me all started.

I have moved on to a 400w HID setup for flower, but I still have my original rubbermaid working as my veg/mother chamber. Thanks for all the great info!

arpnuke showed which are the intakes and exhausts on the R2D2.

The passive intakes with the Kleenex Box Lighttraps are 5" x 5". The exhaust holes with the ducts are cut to the size of the duct which is 4".

Hey everyone! I just moved to the mainland from Hawaii where I did some great outdoor grows over the years but now that I back on this hunk of rock my space is limited and so I decided to go with a 55 gallon Rubbermaid setup inspired by Red Greenery . I am running 16x23 watt CFL's 6700 K which are 1600 lumens each = 25,600 lumens. I am growing 5 Tundra Autoflower, 5 White Berry, 3 Spoetnik, and 1 Purple Lady, all feminized. I am growing in GH Coco Coir and using Botanicare nutes. Early on I had some ph problems, temp issues and humidity problems. I got the ph dialed in and the temps under control and the girlz bounced right back. Unfortunately, I am still having humidity problems> I am at 35% RH but can't seem to get it to around 50% RH. I have tried just about everything under the sun to get it adjusted. I put in a humidifier but the humidity just went right out the exhaust. I misted the plants as well but they started to get sun spots and so I put an end to that. The leaves feel like paper! Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance to all.
White Berry on the left and Tundra (Autoflower) on the right.

Got to give Red the mad props for showing us the way. Years since I stumbled upon this thread. Ive tinkered some with the original design to suit my needs like a wireless temp gauge and peepholes to watch her grow. But I took it further with the ol medicated imagination of mine. Ty RG
Maiden powerslave and EVH's guitar stripes are in the works

The only thing stopping me from making this is that I am totally confused as to what is intake/outake. There is too many vents and i cant seem to distinguish the air flow. Can anyone explain this to me please?

What is promix and where can i get it?

Hi everyone, I'm going to get back to putting my methods down. The first thing that you have to do is pick a method of growing and stick with it.

The first choice is to go with either soil or hydroponics. Soil is better suited for small grows and is far easier to get good results with. Hydro is excellent but is more technical, and expensive.

The first thing you need is a good soil recipe. Here is my soil recipe and an explanation of how it works. This soil is for plants not seedlings and will be what you use when repotting out of the beercups.

2 parts Promix
1 part Perlite
1 part Vermiculite

Cannabis needs well draining soil and the roots have to breathe and take in oxygen. Perlite is used to provide drainage. Vermiculite holds water. Both Perlite and Vermiculite are inert (dead stuff) and provide no nutrients to the plant. The Promix is mostly compost which is safe for seedlings because it is but is unfertilized.

Let's add some organic fertilizers and natural stuff.
2 tbsp per gallon - Bone Meal
1 tbsp per gallon - Blood Meal
1 tbsp per gallon - Dolimite Lime

The Bone meal is a slow release source of phosphorus, Blood meal is a slow release source of Nitrogen and Dolomite Lime sweetens the soil as a slow release anti-acid and is a source of Calcium and Magnesium. These organic goodies extend the time until you start using fertilizers.

I put all the dry dusty ingredients into green garbage bag and mix with the bag sealed. I put the bag in a gallon washpail and add the soil mixture until the pail is full. Then I add the organic fertilers. Pretty simple - eh!

Red has been de-registered, shit he is a wealth of information and a very friendly guy as well, I for one will miss his presence here on ICMAG.
Not good at all.
Sorry Red my mistake but this thread was by a guest and all your posts were by guest today when I swung by, Glad to see that it wasn't true.

Peace
