Red' Greenery's 150 HPS Cab

Hey sunset! I'm glad ya like the new design. The rubbermaid is great for starting out and tinkering. That's great your still putting the tubs to work.

Hey Natoffski, so you're back to the 400 HPS now. That's great. Check out my thread for design ideas before you build. I'll help you out with the ventilation/cooling.

Here's a day 32 flowering update.

This is a pic of the big bud from the girl on the right. This plant is doing fabulous.

This is a budshot from the left plant. It's growing like crazy still and unfortunately popped a couple of balls. I didn't see anytoday.

I'm really happy with the upgrade to the 150 HPS. It seems to push the plants to grow faster. They are hungry and are showing it. I've given them a 1000 ppm dose of Sensi Bloom for the first time the other day. The previous feeding was full strength 20-20-20.

Lookin Awsome Red!!! 20-20-20 .... holy, your girls are hungry? .. maybe I'm adding things up wrong around here but I thought I was glutonous with the ferts till I saw that...lol. Last time I tried a full mix like that was chemicals on my house plants and I almost killed everything in site.

Peace Bro....lookin awsome...BG

red ive got 2 questions...

1. how do you figure out the ppm of a certain product...like where shouold i look to figure out what it is and what i need.

2. ive got a hannah ph/ec/tds meter but the instructions dont tell me how to test the ec...does anyone know where i can read up to see how to do it?

thanks and your plants look awsome

Thanks HTC!!!

Bonsai - these girls are nute pigs!!! This is my first grow using Dolomite Lime and it is making all the difference in this grow. I'd normally struggle P lockout caused by not enough Calcium/Magnesium and low pH by salt buildup. I've grown a couple of times now with 1/2 strength 12-15-12 and some Epsom to manage pH and flushing when it gets out of control. The fluoros just didn't push the girls this hard.

Ever since 12/12 these girls can't get enough and want lot's of N too. I've been running full strength Shultz 12-15-12 and with an extra dropper for good luck. One watering I used full strength Shultz 6-30-6 and Fish Ferts 5-1-1 to give them a kick of P and some N that they were hungry for. The 2nd last watering was full strength 20-20-20 and now I'm trying out the Sensi Bloom A/B at 1000 ppm on the 1200 ppm schedule for light feeding.

Darren - I'm using the ppm dosage on the bottle. AN has a feeding program/nute calculator. I've mixed up a batch with less than what's called for in my grow week. If they show def's, they get a higher dose next watering. If the tips burn, I flush and start over with a lower concentration. That's all I've been doing with the other nutes and have reasonably good results.

Hey Supe - looking good. That 70 will give them a little boost too!

Ratz!!!! I took a couple of nice pics of the girls today and somehow misplaced the memory chip from the camera somewhere in the house. Arghh!!!! I really hate losing stuff.

The girls are looking really good today. The water cycle is down to 3 days now. My pH was a bit low 6.3 on the last watering and I decided to just give a watering with plain water. The pH came up to 6.6-6.8 so they're not showing any sign of salt/nute buildup.

Hey Red - Nice Lookin'!! I guess you're a confirmed HPS-er now, eh? I was wondering if you're using powdered lime, or the pelletized dolomite?

Also, I've already got my stash in jars - it all seemed to dry VERY fast (6 days)!! I "burp" the jars for about 15Mins-1/2 hr per day... does this sound alright to you??

BTW - Northern Light is on the left, White Widow on the right

Ooooh, nice little stash ya got there! What's your dry wt?

Didja come close to making the 3 oz challenge?

I'm using the granular dolomite lime. This is the best stuff to use. It's Calcium-Magnesium-Carbonate and releases Ca and Mg equally to the soil. This stuff is slow acting and will stabilize the pH throughout the grow.

Hydrated or quick lime is Ca-Carbonate only. It's quick acting and can burn your plants. It also generates heat when mixed with water.

I guess I'm a HPS convert now although I think the CFL's are just great too!!!

My plants sure like the 150 HPS and it is really pushing them along.

One thing I've noticed, since flowering the plants lost the deep green hue and don't seem to be growing as much leaves as with the CFL's. I guessing that the CFL's stimulate more vegetative growth during flowering.

if i remember i2k thinks he got 4 oz. but that was when it was wet. id bet he got more than 3...

if decided to use cfls for vegging and maybe one or two in flower but i LOVE how the hps just gets them to grow faster.

Soooo close!

Soooo close!

Hey!

Alas, disappointment... Just weighed my "dry stash" - which tally's up to 2.88oz - close, but not the magical 3 oz. Ahh-well, guess I just missed the 3-oz challenge - next time I'll get it!!

Not to bad for a 1st timer, and after over 20 years, I'm certainly a lightweight toker, so this stash will last me, like - forever!! Something I've discovered w/ this stuff - like Brylcreem... a little dab'll do ya!!! (Oops, just showed my age!! :yoinks:).

When I was buying all those years ago, the most I ever purchased at 1 time was a quarter-ounce, so this stash looks just plain HUGE to me!

Also, since using this stuff - I've researched and discovered a new term... Whiteying!!! Gads, I'm such a weenie! I need to lighten the loads in my Volcano for sure!!!!

Hey Red - can you name brands on your dolomite lime? I used a pelletized lime from Espoma, it's all that I could find @ the time. HERE'S the specs on it. It looks similar to what you're using, but I'd like advice on it.

I'm hoping to get my girls to reveg... the temps @ the soil line are in the low to mid 60'sF (I slowed the light fan down to raise the cab temps, and I seem to be getting a constant 65F now) - is this warm enough? They've been in low light/reveg mode for a week now, still nothing to report there (which I guess is normal).

I'm thinking that your HPS will give you more dense buds, and less green. This kinda makes sense, in a perverted way. I mean, wouldn't less veg. growth during flowering = more compact, harder & denser buds??

Hey Darren - you'll love the HPS. It does give the flowering plant that little bit extra. My plants are doing better on this grow because I'm feeding the girls better.

Wow I2Kangrow - 2.88 is awesome!!! Most first time growers are lucky to pull an oz off a plant. You had nothing but pH problems all the way through too.

So you're getting the Whitey's eh! Sounds like some good stuff - mon. I'm not a big hitter either. I grew 6z total on the last run, a 2 plant then a single reveg and my stash lasted a year.

I'm using CIL (canadian tire) brand Dolomite Lime, that Epsoma stuff sounds super to me, it has all the good stuff Ca and Mg and lot's of it too. This is my first grow using D.Lime and it's done wonders for the girls. The pH is stabilized and for the first time there are no red stems either.

You'll have to be patient on the reveg. It takes 2 weeks at least for some V growth to start.

Are you going to start another grow soon?

looking good R_G - you've shown yourself to be a very skilled grower by the ease with which you made the transition to the new setup

Sorry to here about the balls on one of your girls.

I'm looking forward to watching them finish up in there.

is it normal for leaves to yellow during flower...it looks like N def. but ive fed them with the reccommended dose of flora nova bloom. and its only on one side...right under where the tear was in the stem theres about 4 or 5 leaves that are yellowing

Hey Suga - thanks for the kind prop's. I'm getting a bit better on each grow.

Just wait... I'm making the transition from GP nutes to the AN line that is made for cannabis. I'm going to do the rest of this grow with the Sensi AB Bloom.

Darren - what week in flowering do you think you're at?

N def is normal in mid flowering. I've got some showing on the lower leaves right now. It's not dropping leaves or spreading very fast so I'm not concerned. The plant stops taking up some nutes as flowering advances.

You might need a bit of Mg if anything. These plants are Mg pigs so a bit of Epsom salts is always a safe additive. As far as I can tell, your FloraNovaBloom is about the same as my Sensi A/B Bloom. It's a complete feed in a bottle.

Yeah advanced nutrients. Not too much info on the webpage though.

My local hydro store carries GH but not the FloroNovo Bloom. The owner talked me into the Sensi A/B Bloom. It's the same as the FN only comes in two bottles. You mix A and B the same amount. Apparently most hydro companies don't make a one bottle does everthing mixture because the stuff doesn't mix well.

well the flora nova only has 2 bottles..grow and bloom. should i be mixing some grow in with the bloom when i water? maybe thats why the bigger one is yellowing so much. i looked at the site but it doesnt have anything for sale it seems. was trying to get some of the stuff your using as im lazy and want somehting that is retard easy lol.

on an update note...plants looking good except the bigger one has some yellowing...when under the light i can see it gettin very frosty. not covered or anythign, but its getting there. still about 90% white pistils...but i think some browned from stress and such...pics to come later in the week when they need watering. (its a pain in the ass t move the top off with the hps in there and its "hanging" from two bolts i put in the top of the tub. like a chain except that i didnt have a chain so its got the clips in the fixture hanging off the bolts. if i can ill get a pic of that too

If I may interject...Darren I just went through that learning process too. I for years had only used Bloom with Bloom and Grow with Grow nutes. My last 2 runs I've used Grow with Grow untill a few weeks before flower then I start adding Bloom and during the first 30 days of flower I use full strength grow and bloom and then start backing off on the grow and nitrogen heavy ferts untill finally it's just bloom and light dosage. Then finally I'm learning the flush is a major part of finishing. Figuring out your plants and how much they want to be flushed is key. That's when you should see the most yellowing and color changes and that's when it's a good thing.

Other's could explain why but in my humble opinion I now know this works on a basic principal no matter what ferts you are using.

Am I right Red?
Peace
