Real Skunk Wanted

...Only on the internet do people talk about road kill skunk. That whole term came into existence on the internet...

I take this as confirmation that RKS, as named, never existed. This has been my suspicion all along. But I thought it may be that it was a regional thing. And others in other areas knew it as such. In this here neck of the woods, Skunk was Skunk. And it smelt like road kill. But I never heard anyone call it that. It was also generally known and accepted that Skunk was related to the ‘ghan... others in this thread have mentioned this.

Imagine my surprise years ago with freebies from seedsdirect.to that were Sam’s... #1... WTF... this is NOT Skunk...

Guess the #1 matters... and the History...

Nice lookin' flowers, JM.

back when i was a young guy in the hills of the ohio, kentucky, west virginia area (on the river) it was just called skunk due to the wild animal smell it emitted. and yes there are some in the hills that hold this close to the vest to this day

What does your cross smell & taste like?

These are in the f2. This is the 2nd time I ran this generation. Last time was around 2011.

They all came out smelling like your typical Skunk #1. If you've grown straight Skunk #1...you know that aroma. It's that sweet undertone...and it transitions over to flavor.

I ran 7 females....used 2 males on 4 of them...covering the 3 different expressions found in this round. So now into the f3.

* I had more success finding what I was looking for in the f1 generation. There...I had a couple funkier ones. Those I used to make the f2....but I haven't found their representations in the f2 runs. Maybe in the f3???? All plants harvested between 56 and 65 days. The squat expressions are faster....and where I'll look in the f3.

The skunk aroma...baby shit aroma...rotten meat aroma....spoiled cheese aroma...are all in the same boat..as far as...I'm concerned. I classify it all under Funk.

** In this cross I'm looking for a Skunk frame/flowers with that typical Skunk #1 aroma and flavor washed in any of those funk aromas. Not specifically skunk. I like the Skunk #1 aroma...it's distinct and old skool...but it would be better funked up. I love the structures of Skunk #1 too. They can get big and fat.

*** I'm running select clones again (presently)...then letting them go. I do enjoy this cross every so often...but it's not a success story yet. The hash though...from this round...nothing to bitch about. Nice high.

**** I'm also always looking out for Orange flavored Skunk......seems there's oranges in there somewhere. I don't know the sequence of genetics...or which skunk branch that goes down

Nevil re Ortega gear .
Is the New Mexico Afghani in the 85 catalogue from Mr Ortega?
I don't think so, but you never know. Thanks, who ever you are. This guy was the first to send me seeds anonymously from the US. It was the first Afghani I grew. It was good too. I never heard from him again. People liked the hybrids, I would mind having them again.

BTW Nev, did you ever meet Sandy Weinstein or any of his mid-west group during your travels in the US?
I don't think I did, but I do tend to forget people. I got the cuttings through intermediaries. Those were paranoid times.

Well hopefully, you can find that smell one day. Let us know if you do.

I smelled the strong Skunk smell in the early 90's while driving down
a gravel road in Southern Ontario. I wanted to go check it out. But
I was told it wasn't a good idea to go playing in cornfields being
grown by certain motorcycle people. The entire valley stunk.

Aka. one way trip if you got caught.

Yeah, Elmer....something like that. I grew out some of Chimera's orange work...years ago...Calizhar (I remember that cross had Shiskberry Red in it..as well as..the Cali-o clone) and...for sures...found the orange expressions...but the herb was not very potent. Really aromatic and flavorful though. I made a bunch of f2s...and have had the thought to cross it into my Skunk cross...but

I haven't found the mother plant I need in the Skunk cross. This has been going on since 2008. If I could just do entire grows...run enough plants...I'm sure I could find it. It's an ongoing hobby level project.

* I used to grow/dust Pot of Gold too. Hindu Kush (Sam) X Skunk #1 (Sam)...but the Hindu seemed to just add to the bulkiness of the plants..and added a hashy aroma/flavor. Nothing funky though.

I personally like the sweet Skunks. A potent funky/foul citrus Skunk works for me. I've always preferred the thin leaf sativa types of herb.

I have made seeds many times before.

My cloning is about 25% success now from 0% in the past.

Oh well, at least I'll have fun trying anyways.

Secret to cloning is a small pinch/ couple drops of bloom ferts in the spray when spraying clones down or misting them . always 98% success reguardless technique used . i prefer dome and rockwool cubes

now back to the point .
---------

I got 300 seeds of the closest thing ive found .Thus to the first sensi i ever smoked (RKS) . This might sound funny but my lil brother had a connect to some regs that was the same weed for 4yrs straight. Very high grade Mexican . Regs was so good we could smoke a small pen joint with 5-6 ppl and all get a good buzz. The guy used to get 100 a oz all the way out.

Anyway it had the road kill smell that lingered for hrs in a enclosed space , had the road kill skunk flavor that lingered in your mouth no matter what u drank. neon to golden green nugs with bright orange hairs on golf ball solid dense nugs . Always came like it was vacuum sealed but only enough to touch the buds.

My father has grown these and found some variation in the offspring . one trait is known to be in 70% of all the females is they only grow 3 bladed leaves . Doesn't matter if grown organic ,hydroponic salts . She takes forever to fill in . Shes tall and lanky and doesn't yield much at all. We were going to work the line until we found all this out . This tells me shes probably a outdoor landrace from south America . Shes very picky about her nutrients and will slow down to a snails pace if over fed or not happy. very light feeder. had to cut super soil by 1/2 , also only liked 10-15g maxi bloom in 5 gal DWC bucket vs most strains love 20-25g

Looking at my seeds (we grew 30 under 3x 600w HPS each run) I would say what we grew was close to the original road kill skunk . But their was no golf ball nugs , super heavy 80-90 day flowering times . super tall phenos reaching 6-8ft high. (we gave 30 day veg) . So the old man backed out . i seeds i still hold to this day are from the original bags we baught at a oz at a time. Im thinking these will do great outdoor so January im going to get ready for may so i can put out large ladies and do my own open pollen project . maybe put a few elites outside let them get knocked up from the males see what comes about. . My father has grown for 30 yrs and myself 15+ . wasn't on us . The finished product was awesome . seemed more it cured more it stunk . But was ok but no Chem or OG, C99 when it came to high

Ill say this the ones i got currently outside are not in real good conditions . (Light deprived, late start ,but in full organic soil) and doing well. This is another reason i think its a outdoor old production strain from south America . Once she hit some 30year old leaf mold and was gave some AACT she took off . Like she was waiting for me to put her under good ol sunshine . she can take a beating i know that . Just don't over feed her . i think maybe i might hit a og or something with a male . who knows .

i know i don't have RKS ,but do think i got part of the equation . which is a South American landrace that has the smell and flavor but not the stature and density and yields . Seems like a piece is missing ? Maybe afghani for structure and yields and lowering flower times . im not sure . They have always had my interest but not enough to dedicate time to them when u got sour bubble , og , bubba ,gg4 Chems at your finger tips. Who also finish in 50-63 days vs 70-90 days

Maybe i should send a few packs in ?

well I watered with bunny manure tea last run in and went back to see everything dug up . I got 3 that got 3 or 4 nodes they were cut in half . barely hanging on to life . pissed off atm . while I even wonder if going back for them is worth it . they are 6 in tall now (were 10-12in) cut in half and 7 more dug up and cant be found . God bess the fucking coon deer or wtfe was that did this.

I hate outdoor for these very reasons . ill go back in a few days and take pics . I left out of rage before I destroyed what was left . 3 out of 12 is pure bullshit who knows if they are even male or female and the sob who dug them up snapped them in two . Already had a late start and things going wrong now. Makes me want to abandon the lil 6in stubs I was left one was stripped down to one node on whats left .

May just run some under a LED I built . just for kicks as im pretty new to LED setups . built myself a Growmau5 setup 200w

I am lucky to still have a clone of the OG skunk#1 from the old days to work with, amazing bud.
My mate the Librarian maintained the "library" last decade or so, and also holds the original Skunk male, time for some Skunky influx soon I think.

ill post the link here when I start the thread on my seeds . right now I got blue dreams under the led . Ive been HPS all my life and now tinkering with the greengenes/ growmau5 DIY LED's Should make for some interesting feed back.Thinking about taking the cam out but don't want to be disappointed for walking 3 hrs to only find 0 I got very lil chance the ones i had left will make it through . They were devastated by wtfe animal it was . starting to think ground hog or skunk is the culprit . 10/22 fix whatever it is i find out for sure . Its a long walk to be disappointed to see everything dug up laying there hanging to life on the verge of death. i did replant them but god were they beat up

Hmmmmm....I received some seeds from a friend last year labeled "Punta Rojo x Afghan f2". I didn't get around to popping them. This year he sent me cuts from a gal he found from some that he popped. His warning was please!!! make sure your smell defense/carbon filters ect are in proper working order, you are going to need it. She smells of pure skunk with a touch of rotten cherries or something. Also no plastic bags can contain the skunk funk....glass jars ONLY!!

Obviously I was, and still am excited. These un rooted cuts stink for sure...he sent them in one of those stinksack bags bags with the lil skunk on it...pretty fitting.

Well its nice to hear that somebody else had the idea of crossing an old school Colombian (i.e Punta Rojo)
to an Afghani with some nice stinky end results. I bet the numbers of plants involved were moderate also.

Do you know which afghan was used in the cross, the exact strain?
