Real Skunk Wanted

It would be interesting (to me at least) to companion plant a cannabis crop with some skunk cabbage to see if there's any transference of aroma. Also of interest would be to extract the skunk cabbage terpenes, first to see what composition of terpenes/oils etc may create the skunky aroma, thereby creating a focus for breeders to aim for; secondly, to see if the extracted perfume can be applied to cannabis without toxic effect. This latter is what I've recently been suspecting the original '70's skunk may have been partially comprised of. The psychoactive effects of the old strain wasn't overly special imvho
...but, Oooooo, that smell!!!! :headbange

They've made it easy for you skunk spray comes in a bottle. I've pondered that theory for years that skunk spray was applied to packaging to deter dogs during border crossing, it makes sense, especially since there was been not a single soul that has claimed they have found real skunk smelling plants in Skunk #1. Despite the claims there is not one shred of evidence.

It won't work getting one plant species to transfer odor to another plant species.

BTW: I've already created a Skunk Essence thread.

Pure Skunk Essence (aka Pure Quill)

Crop king seeds has a very nice skunk pheno. Reminds me of old times. I think he advertises it as 70's genetics

That's sounds promising mate , I just smoked a Jew joints of Pineapple Express , the first one I've seen that smells and tastes of the sweet pineapple pheno of sk1 X northern lights from years and years ago lovely flavour and lovley bag appeal

OG Tree Grower

Out of the 5 seeds I got they were all nice, two were colourful and average skunk smell/taste but the two that were identical had the smell and taste that stood out from the other 3. It's one of those Strains you have friends asking when more will be around

Another thing I will add since there is so much intrest

At 8 weeks it can be harvested but your missing out on a lot of weight, wait the 9 weeks, 10 if you like a really heavy buzz

It doesn't like super heavy food schedules
It responds well to defoliation and training
It grows Christmas tree like in shape
It's killer smoke and average yield

I figured I should add these posts in which I asked Sam the Skunkman today for a possible RKS seeds release.

My request to Sam:

Sam, you could always release the RKS seeds to Gypsy to sell as a:

"One time limited get them while you can and don't bug me again RKS sale."

Although I suspect time as taken it's toll and nobody would able to bring those seeds to life no matter who they are.

I think they'll be selling live Unicorns on Ebay before anyone can bring life to 20+ years old RKS Skunk seeds.

Sam's response to my request:

I don't think you understand I would have to do a bunch of work, several years to have an RKS Skunk#1 line that was really RKS. I do not have any quantities of RKS Skunk#1 seeds. I have a real lot of seeds and a bunch of clones that are somewhat RKS, the seeds were made from Skunk#1 seeds before I selected my sweeter clones, they will have some RKS Skunk#1 in them. They are very old and can not be sold, some do germinate but less then 10%. I do have many kilos of them so anything is possible. Also it is pretty easy to keep well made seeds alive for 25+ years under refrigeration, I have seeds that I sprouted that I had in the fridge for 25 years and got over 95% to sprout and grow. I tried 25 different of my hybrid varieties and got some of all to sprout most more then 90%. But I made the seeds myself and I let them fully finish before harvest. The Skunk#1 seeds were produced outdoors in the EU and they are not as dark or as well made as seeds made directly by me, as the weather had input into the harvest date, I would of let them finish for several more weeks if in my greenhouse. The problem is not the seeds, in my case it is I don't want to do the grow out and selection work.

So there you have it people. I guess we're on our own sadly to try to find and/or recreate this mythical Roadkill Skunk.

Sam would be wise to pass those old seeds to somebody that would actually use them rather than sit on them for the rest of eternity.
Especially considering the demand for such a variety in pure form.

Give em or sell em... it matters not...

Unfortunately, Sams made it clear many times that hes not at all interested in reproducing or allowing someone else to reproduce RKS.

Short of forseeing a huge financial crush coming to his family, I don't think he would even consider changing is mind.

-----------------------------------------------

Imagine 2000 packs, with a guaranteed 25% RKS pheno ratio, auctioned off with only a few posts to the various sites that Sam posts to. With a 2 month warning, the $ would be astronomical!

At least I tried and now we got our answer.

BTW: I wasn't asking him to start breeding and reselecting them which would have taken years.
I would have been happy playing russian roulette on unworked seeds even if 90% don't germinate.

I suspect many of you would have taken the chance as well.
As for myself, that damn postman better show up with my Columbian Gold seeds soon. :spank:

I've got 30 year old seed grown out which I belive are derived from Skunk #1. They also have a 10% germ rate. Nothing to be gained from anyone else beyond that which I have. And I firmly believe my "sweet" old Skunk #1 type cultivar will produce proper Skunk. The difference here is mine will be made available.

I guess it's up to us to recreate rks...

I would just like to add. that it's just not the skunk smell of rks that made it so special. it was also the high, the color, the growth pattern, and the level at which it smelled.

I have many plants that if I blind folded you. you'd think it was rks...

just figured I should say that. because I read a lot of post about people finding ''rks'' in a entirely different variety. unrelated to skunk...

unless your just looking for the smell? then that's cool to..

corky has a good idea recreating skunk with landrace genes. it just takes a lot of time and big numbers. I think that's going to be closer to the real thing than a skunky nl#5 or afghani variety..

peace!

Northern lights don't smell strong enough to be involved in this project.
As for the afghani, it's actually part of the Original Skunk pedigree.
In time, I will go shopping for those seeds as well.

Super skunk is super skunk and cheese is cheese. That's all I was saying, that your wrong calling super skunk cheese. One is one and one is the other. Super skunk is skunk #1 cross afghani, cheese is just skunk #1.
If your bored about this topic then don't post about it mate.

In Sensi's Super Skunk of today you can find cheesy AND skunky phenos.

if I get my 1984 to 1989 secret sativa seed club seeds to pop I will sure donate you some skunk genes I have sk1 , haze and sk1 X haze , original seed comp seeds .

There are some supplemental agents to add to germinating old seeds that i was reading about. I will let u know when i find them. As i remember they helped popping old rezdog seeds from seedboutique. Without them it was one of ten surviving and with it was 5 or so. C u later.

So i have found the thread and the other pages, they're in German language but better than nothing:

http://1000seeds.info/wordpress/produkt/xseed-von-b-a-c-10g-zur-samenkeimung/

http://www.abtei-fulda.de/gartenbau/humofix.html

And the icmag page: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=322218
