R

Raistlin Majere

seems i cannot get to sleep :badday:
mebbe i'll do a bong rip here in a minute :muahaha: feels so good to be able to say that

khaleel ~ it is indeed my friend :friends:

accessndx ~ ebb and flow huh :chin: remember i said once my cab is running smoothly i wanna try hydro
do one half soil one half hydro, see how i like it
i was thinking DWC, is ebb/flow easy for a novice ?

Mr GreenJeans ~ thanks brother  good to see ya back this soon
the view is nice, i always loved the rolling hills we have here

-------------------------------
a bit about my trip and plants

#1 is doing the best, almost no leaf damage or leaf discoloration
#2-3-4 were all getting chocked by sticky vines, i had to pull them out best i could
probably rootbound because the roots never grew out of the bottom of the bags :bashhead:
all thirsty as hell/hungry
tommorow i'll run a big bag of LC's mix up and give them a good topdressing
and then a nice big cool drink
probably run water up weekly now as needed :asskick: fcuk i hate doing that :violin:

the two that i lost i believe to be compleatly covered in vines :dueling: and perhaps dead from it, i hope not but i should have been able to find them
humm the one looked like she was pollonated ??? i will have to see if i missed one of them being a male ?
probably one of the missing ones :fsu: we shall see...

alright ima go do a nice bong rip or three, then try this sleeping thing again :violin:
have a good one fella's

The concept of Ebb and Flow is really simple. It's exactly like how the tides of the ocean work...only instead of gravity, you're using an electric pump to bring up water levels.

You have a reservoir...it can be any size: 1 gallon, 6 gallons....10 gallons, 30 gallons, 70 gallons, etc. In that reservoir is a solution of water and nutrients. It's aerated by fishtank air stones. That reservoir also has a fishtank pump that pumps that fluid mixture of nutrients and water into a "table" (numerous different sizes) on which your plants sit. Plants are suspended in inert "rocks" like hydroton or lava rocks in a pot or "net-pot". Those plants can be just plain rooted (like straight out of the ez-cloner, or can be put into another additionally supportive hydroponic medium like rockwool. At pre-designated times you choose on a timer: the fishtank pump takes fluid out of your reservoir and "floods" the table with the plants. There are drains set at different heights that return fluid to your reservoir as it "flows" over the table and the plant roots. Think about it like a bathtub being filled with water and then drained periodically. Lighting and other environmentals are exactly the same as you'd have in any other setup.

That's how I can leave for periods of time without a hassle. The plants get fed automatically. You do have to keep your reservoirs cleaned pretty often, and replenished with fresh nutrients on a regular schedule. It's like a fishtank. But in between those periods it's just a low maintenance system that requires very little intervention.

Of course soil has its' distinct benefits. There's the taste, the "buffering" effect of soil....and the stable growth patterns that are exhibited. Soil is a markedly safer medium and hard to go wrong with. With any hydroponic setup you can easily tank a strain by over-feeding or by radical shifts in pH. The plant roots are basically naked and exposed, so there's a heightened sensitivity to all different environmental factors.

The best hydbridization of course would be an automatic watering system for soil. That's the equivalent of the easy low-maintenance aspect of hydroponics...but at the same time all the benefit of things soil is noted for.

You've got a green thumb. You'd do well with any growing method. But if you've got E&F Q&A...I'm all ears.

By the way: sorry to hear everyone's all banged up (car accidents, innoculations, etc.). I'm sending a big wave of good vibes to ya' all...and sneaking bat-hits at this crazy hotel. It's like a greenhouse the size of 4 football fields.....big ass alligators inside the arboretum......turtles.....giant cat-fish and all kinds of stingrays. Unfortunately a non-smoking joint....and it's been raining cats and dogs outside due to the pseudo-hurricane so I've been pulling "sneaky-petes" off the inside balcony, ducking and covering.
Just got the new DVDScreener of the Hunter S. Thomspon documentary (Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.)....gonna drop those last 2 biscuits and watch.

Vinter: No direct pictures of how my setup is broken down...but I could arrange that next time I clean the reservoirs.
Y: You can TOTALLY make your own system.....I betcha it could be made with little more than a tupperware container as a reservoir, a fishtank pump...some drain holes and some tubing. However, if you want simplicity and turnkey systems I'll drop a few links. By the way, don't have a heart attack with some of the pricing you see, some things can be rather expensive, others are significantly cheaper. I just want you to get an idea of what's out there and available.

http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=EJ210K

This is the one I'm using for flowering right now (but I bought it for half as much at the local hydro store): http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=SGM200

This is the one I'm using for vegative growth and moms right now: http://www.4seasongreenhouse.com/megagarden-hydroponic-growing-system-p-1286.html

You should find what you're looking for and shop around for pricing. Some of these internet sites will rape ya'...others have excellent prices.
