Man I kinda feel like a vail been lifted and its only been 2 1/2 weeks. Quit cigs on the 6/12 and alcohol 6/17. I quit facebook at the same time and started exercising, been hella more productive.

Social media, man. For me it's equivalent to porn. Many intelligent, serious men claim addiction to both. But I could never understand that view. Those things are just byproducts of what you do when you're fucked up in other, more substantial ways. They are times-sinks that we use when we are depressed, addicted to alcohol, etc.

They are the skidmarks of a drunken man doing squats on a hangover.

Get right in the head and Facebook distractions get put in their rightful place with no conscious effort.

I always fuck up right about now. 11PM. Took my dog for a nice long walk at 7am this morning. Volunteered at the animal shelter today. Lifted weights. Was nice to to the check-out girl at Kroger. Made some money. Did good things; lived like a good person. But I need a release. I need to truly relax.

I've got at least 2 months before my autoflowers are good to harvest. Then, I can calm down with flowers. So why not just drink from now till flower, after which I'll be done with booze? After all I'm not hurting anybody.

Theses are the games I play with myself. Perhaps you can relate?

Real talk only I always planned to quit and start working out on moday so i could start the week right. Or tomorrow. Might as well drink today cuz aint shit goin on. Or ima ween myself off, so I dont have withdrawals. Myself justifying caving to my addiction.

I wouldnt have real withdrawals, lil bit of shakes and hella irritability, that was just my excuse to myself to justify not stopping. Or, “next weekends (enter holiday/birthday/celebration day) I’ll stop after that.”
The things our minds try to tell us to rationalize catering to our addictions. Its kinda interesting how that works.

Congrats! Keeping busy with life stuff and productive things really are key. Can I suggest some cardio and maybe meditating/mindfulness practices? These helped me in a big, big way and they keep me in the moment, rather than worrying about how am I going to 'be' at some time in the future.

I can relate to the self story-telling for sure...But, with booze the next one could be your last. With a booze buzz on, it might seem like a good idea to take a spin down to the store, or something to that effect, and end someone's life or your own- or both. Good decision making was never one of the side effects with booze, for me.

Play the tape through. It never ends well.

You can fully and completely enjoy life without it. It opens up in ways that will be hard to believe.

If it helps and you need to, pick up the phone or the pen at 11, rather than the bottle. You can have my number if you need it and I am sure that many other members would offer the same. Support is crucial, especially in the beginning. You don't have to do it alone.

The "carbions" have a way of digging deep into the brain, and crave the damn sugar that booze releases. The little bastids are strong, and to beat them you have to be pissed off and hate the whole idea. Yeah, they will make you rationalize away all the progress you have made. They are that strong. They can also be beat.

When I was aircrew in the USAF they put us through evasion and escape training. Interrogation training. This was not long after the POWs from 'nam were released (some anyways), and some of those guys would talk with us about the prison / torture ordeal.

Under torture they might "break down", but the deal was to always bounce back and regain your pride. A alky should try his damndest not to fail, and lose all those booze-free days, but if you do... bounce the Fuck back and start again stronger.

ICMag is a great place to blow off frustration when the carbions strike.

It's been since the Sunday after Thanksgiving since I have drank. I go to the bar and can hang out, drinking my water (I add a little baking soda, which I say is THC crystal), and not want a beer.

But I do come in with a good little buzz, and have cookies in the truck.

That's truly amazing that you can go to the bar and just do your own thing, sober.

I can't fathom that. Maybe one day.

You want it, do it! As for sober, hardly. I have a hellova buzz by then.

Little local beer bar, and I drink water. The habit of drinking something is half the deal. I go there for some socialization, local news, and to get out of the house.

Grab a case or two of bottled water and see if that helps. BTW, I put a little baking soda in mine, it helps make it taste right now.

You have to be skaird of drinking. At least I am. What is cool now, is I can drive places in the afternoon, and not be drunk. I still don't like driving at night.

Hang in there guys, this can be done. Only carbions...

Something I've discovered is that A) I don't have a variety of illnesses I thought I had to live with forever B) It's not a given that I will feel suicidal every morning.

Permanent acid reflux because I eat fast food a few times per week? Nope, turns out when I'm not raping my digestive tract with literal poison I'm fine. Feel great.

That first cup of coffee with the birds chirping? No, it's not a headachey/vomitous torture festival. It's actually rather lovely.

Well done mate your flying it.....

One day at a time...

How's the sugar cravings? Man, I use to eat some amount of crap
When I was on the wagon especially late at night, bag loads of maynards wine gums would of been the tipple then.
Still, it was better than a bottle of whiskey even if I did pile on the lbs..
I find reading late at night helped and lots of walking during the day time. I guess it's about keeping
The head occupied. any way, onwards and upwards mate and all the best....
