Quit Alcohol - Support Thread

If you've been drinking as much and as long as you've stated on these boards, 'hawk, don't take either the discontinuation of benzo's or alcohol lightly. Both of those drugs can fuck you up hard as you leave them behind. But leaving them behind in a proper way can save your life.

Please make sure you have access to good medical folks in dropping either of those substances. Seriously.

Glad you're getting through it.

We can be our own worst enemy, 'hawk, or our best friend. Life's the teacher.

Every member of my family of origin died by their own hands in one way or another; 4 of them. I'm still here. I'm not a perfect person, have my own sins under my belt, and my own gifts. Have held the gun to my head a number of times years ago, and some days don't seem worth going on or making things better..

Trouble is, no one knows what gifts or traumas tomorrow holds, and the only way to find out is to be there.

Take good care.

AA works if you work it, you have to want sobriety bad enough to sit through as many meetings as it takes, keep in mind that while you're at a meeting, you ain't drinking.

...i put the jug down in April of 1997 and i haven't had a drop since and while i hated the meetings in the beginning, i went to hundreds of them, in the beginning i was going to 2 a day, sometimes 3.

...just remember, you don't have to quit drinking for ever, you just have to not drink today, you put enough todays together and pretty soon you have a year clean under your belt.

...one day at a time and I've been booze free for 20 years!

peace, bozo

...btw, my username comes from my AA experience where i had to learn humility or die, now i'm just another bozo on the bus!

I failed miserably, however I am more disappointed at how much poison (tobacco) I have smoked than the booze I drank since giving up. I did go booze free and tobacco free for 11 days.... I stopped tobacco a full year years ago, why, why!! man that shit is strong.

I started to think after 10 days that I was free, ...

I think I am so busy with life right now that smoking weed without tobacco was getting me way too high and unproductive.

Maybe I ll have to try again without weed next time, just getting sober for real, for once...

what a journey life is...

still on the straight & narrow, 3 weeks & i feel so much better, the only depression/anxiety since day 2 or 3 was a third day of grey cold weather. got some news that i'll need to get a 3 car garage full of stuff from 3 states away. im flat broke and will need to rent a uhaul and trailer. i live in an apartment and most of the stuff is cars and motorcycles. i have no idea what i'm going to do. if I were drinking i'd be a mess over it. good news is that i'll be fetching all my grow gear. it's been 8 years since ive been able to grow and this time i'll be well within the law.

...good luck brother, just keep moving forward one day at a time and don't drink and things will work themselves out.

...and stay focused on today, that's the only day you have a choice in what you do.

good luck, we'll be pulling for ya, bozo

Fantastic!! That's really awesome, man, congrats!!...It will keep getting better and better. Keeping off the sauce makes dealing with life much more manageable.
Hope to see some pics from your upcoming grow soon! Getting back in the garden will be really great for you, too.

I quit for a couple of months, then fell off the wagon for five days, then quit another month and fell off again. I'm just too much of a pussy to stop. Many years ago, it wasn't quite this damn hard.

...i did that in my beginning too and in truth it is very common.

...sadly this almost always leads back to the alcoholic behavior and all the resulting bullshit.

...i've lost more than a few friends this way, to prison and death and to the jug for another long term battle.

...AA works if you work it so if the next time you want a drink you go to a meeting instead, there is a good chance you will remain sober that day.

...i'm here to tell you that it DOES get easier so long as you NEVER forget where the jug takes you, the minute you start believing you are safe, RUN to a meeting, FAST!!!

peace, bozo

Don't beat yourself up, man. It can be a bitch to stop, but you can for sure. Just don't drink 'now'.
You aren't a pussy, you are human- just like the rest of us...
Cannabis helps to reduce those drinking urges, big time. Next time you want a drink take a few hits and see how you feel.
You are doing great

I am dating an alcoholic & this is a nightmare. He mentioned it when we first got together but I didn't realize how toxic this lifestyle is.

Idk what to say or why I'm even saying this now. My ex left me homeless so I'm obviously not a good person (and therefore I have no room to bitch).

Alcoholism definitely destroys lives, and kills. There may come a time that the non-alcoholic must leave to save herself/himself and others from the inevitable destruction. If/when that happens, the people who leave should not feel guilty. An alcoholic often doesn't realize, the death he drinks is poisoning everyone around him. I know this from experience.

All those poor toxic livers..

Shame we don't drink herbal brews anymore to get pissed and get our medicine from as well its this putrid, mass produced, watered down, tasteless, medically negligent, phytochemically inactive swill..

You can actually dredge an alcoholics liver and clean their blood if you swap them onto something with hepatic and alterative herbs infused in it..

We used to drink dandelion and burdock here in the UK as well as lots of other botanical brews but now its all knights templar, wife beating pig swill for the masses.

We lost our way where alcohol is concerned. It can be a great preservative for plant medicines which is why we ever drank it in the first place.. The herbs were antibacterial and the alcohol was there to preserve the herbs in a fluid medium.

I am an alcoholic. I attribute it to Flying Hueys in the Vietnam war. The Army made sure we had lots of booze available. We got shot at daily. I used to shake after the flying was finished and calmed myself with alcohol, lots of it! Been sober for 14 years and life is good. I will take pot any day.

everyone have their own story but it's miracle how i'm still alive.

when i was kid i used to see that drinking alcohol is normal and only happy people use it. it was my reality because my dad was an alcoholistic but he had kids and he still wen't to work. it was big mistake to think that way.

i almost killed myself with alcohol. so much stress and overtraining in gym. i was drinking couple of beers everyday and many times i used to get so drunk that i just passed out. from morning to next morning. i ate benzos aswell. huh!

when you can't stand with your own legs and you find yourself crying in shower with all that negative things that happened in past. have not slept 3 months. i just decide to quit alcohol forever.

all that things i have seen and experienced is too much for many people. for me too. but somehow i handled them with my mother help.

marijuana i have been smoking for 10 years with or without alcohol. one time i got panic attacks and anxiety. i think i was too young then. now i smoke how much i feel and then just take break. actually i use volcano only, respect your lungs!

sorry my bad text outfit and english. maybe i write more later.

brown thump thanks for your message it helped me little to stand up from my past. i miss one people so much but i had to leave her. drugs :(

Sad to say I've fallen off the wagon due to my house full of party minded people out of the blue . Been on my own and full control for a long time , but couldn't take all this ,,,, hoping to quit on my own again , without antibus help , pray for me , kids coming back to live here permanently , don;t welling myself to ant them to find out ,,,, I'm on 12 cans plus 1 or two bottles of wine a day atm . 4 yrs I stayed dry ,,,,,

Still on 12 cans Mahou 5.4 % a day ,,, feeling like I'm a weak person , not able to look at myself in the mirror , telling that person that it's time to get back on the track . This is going to be hard , even with the help of weed , but will try soon . God bless u all .

Great respect for u in that heli . Must have been nerve wrecking . Dry for 14 years deserves a medal . I managed 4 , but fell off the wagon in 2017 , hoping for a second chance , but that's down to me and my will power . Hope I'll find that power again soon . Take care ,
