quitting on your own? try a replacement for your vice, throw yourself into a hobby. try one that's cheaper than your drinking/drug habit & you're already money ahead.

learn fishing reel repair or custom rod building.

here's a good one, golf club re-shafting and grip replacement, you could make a workshop out of one of these cargo trailers and set up shop @ 2 or 3 different driving ranges that don't offer those services.

Wells-Cargo-Landscape.jpg

some good graphics for signage and a schedule you keep to so guys can get their clubs back in a timely manner.

I replaced a 9 year cocaine (freebase) and drinking addiction with hunting & fishing, a return to the outdoors back in '88.

Yeah I have read that about acid and shrooms as well, hallucinogens in general I guess, I know its peyote for Native Americans that suffer from alcoholism, some sort of genetic bias towards alcoholism I believe.

Yes we do lack discipline, that is why we're alcoholics in the first place lol

Need to bump this thread again... I've definitely posted a few times before and still haven't quit, but trying harder this time. going through some bad times, and really trying not to drown my stress, anxiety and problems with vodka (or whatever else). 3 days sober as of today lol

it is probably one of the hardest drugs to kick. but if you want to feel healthy again. Active again, and get your brain straight again. Get some professional help. and do your research.

I know a psychologist whom I really respect. It is his opinion that humans never get rid of addictions, rather, they substitute new addictions for old ones. That being said, I see any harm or loss of function caused by mj to be much less than alcohol, but I also think getting off of booze, you should try to substitute even healthier addictions like running, lifting weights, going on long walks, biking, cleaning, reading etc. Used to come home from work and have a drink immediately? Come home and go for a jog or cook yourself a gourmet meal. Whatever you have an interest in. I know working out helps for a lot of people because it releases a lot of good brain chemicals. Best of luck and congratulations to everyone who has been successful so far.

Also, never be afraid to admit to people that you need help! It's not an easy thing to do by yourself. Get a support system in place, and actually use it! Talk to someone if you feel a relapse coming. Whether it's AA or just talking to friends...

What he said. However, if your friends are drinkers too . . . you may need to say goodbye to them, at least 'till you've got a firm grip on this. It's in their interests for you to keep drinking and being their drinking buddy. Sober, you're no good to them. Whether they mean to or not, they will undermine your efforts right when you need support the most. Trust me on this.

this thread relates to what i've been doing for months now...

i have had too many bad nights in the last year that would make me dumb to continue it.... in which 9 times out of 10 when i have more than 2 drinks I :

A. I spent alot of cash needlessly

or

B. I made bad judgements on people to hang with

so i say fuckit! the negatives outweigh the positives for me at this moment in my life... may be different at a different time and place but right now it's bad news for me.

Medical Cannabis is really all i love anyway, so that's that.

Thanks for helping revive this thread guys. Alcohol is the only thing I've ever had any real problem with, and no matter what shitty things happen still can't kick it. I've been a lot better for the past year but I know I slip up sometimes, and that it doesn't take much. And once I have that one drink, I just won't stop so that's the other thing I've been struggling with.
Never really reached out to anyone on the subject, although due to legal issues I'm about to complete a 16 week alcohol program just once a week thing and have been going to AA as of like this week. Everyone surely has their opinion of AA, and personally I've never been a huge fan, but people are really helpful and considerate there and the stories you hear something always tends to be something you've (I've) personally dealt with etc, and being on the younger side (26) I'm trying to stop the downward spiral now before shit really hits the fan. Loss of career, family, kids, spouse, house, license etc etc

My friends are all drinkers, heavy drinkers at that, so it's of course hard to deal with that. Kinda pissed me off the other day actually, had my 2 yr old at my buddy's/"guy's" kid's bday party and even though they know I have issues with drinking, and driving, and that I had to drive my kid home and was solely responsible for him, they all offered me a beer at some point and couldn't believe I said no.....

Most importantly however, now that I have an amazing kid that I see a few days a week, I know that he has to always come first and the bottle can NEVER come before him and should never come before anything really, something that I've struggled with over the years and really fucked up with, mainly relationships etc. I have faith that alone will keep me from fucking up anymore than I have in regards to alcohol at least.

thanks for letting me rant regardless of how many ppl actually read it lol.

-and as most people have said MJ helps ALOT, it's really the only thing that does. I have been trying to exercise and do yoga or trying to start again at least, but I have a hard time replacing bad habits with good ones...

i am an alcoholic & grower addict

year 2010 - i started drinking a few 3-4 beers a day. after a year i realised that i am drinking every day and it is a problem. now i drink 4-5 beers a day after work, sometimes 2 bottles of wine. i own a company so i can wake up whenever i want and i don't even have to go to work every day. i try to fight it but i stayed sober for 10 days most. i like calming effects of alcohol but i know it destroys me and with every day of drinking it will be harder to quit.

when i don't drink for 2 days or more i have strong headaches, i feel anxiety, angry, i am irritated

i decided to have sober year 2013 and today is day 2 of no drinking - hope to get some support

I have never been addicted to alcohol (psychologically or physically), but I have found that since I begun using cannabis more regularly my alcohol consumption has gone down almost to complete abstinence. I don't have any desire to drink alcohol. If I do drink it, I enjoy its flavor but I never drink so much that I become drunk.

You can do it, man! Have you thought about picking up a new habit/hobby to distract you from alcohol? Something that is completely unrelated to mind-altering stuff.

try AA or something, even if you don't believe in the higher power stuff.

I can easily handle 2 bottles of wine a few times a week.

i started lifting again recently and going on a low-carb diet, my own narcissism seems to have overcome my need to drink.

-used to be a severe drinker for several years

-while i was on fistfulls of (legally prescribed) pills... benzos, ssri's, anti psychotics, mood stabalizers... you name it... (for all kinds of mental illness that i wont go in to) im kind of shocked im still alive at times...

-curtailed my drinking greatly, but would still get drunk sometimes

-still took the pills...

-years pass

-needed a change, began taper off benzodiazipines

-went through lengthy and absurdly terrible withdraw... but ridded myself of them....

-drinking began to come back...

-needed a change, began taper of all medications and alcohol

-withdraw

-but somehow as the 'medicine' left my body, my need to get drunk left as well...

-been 'clean' for many months (still use cannabis and i enjoy a good ipa a couple times a week, but havent been impared from alcohol or had liquor for a long time)

-one day at a time
