Hello from the Rogue Valley. Here is a random comment- I talked to guy that flies around in a helicopter for the government to spot pot growing . It sounds like they are looking more in the forest because the back yard stuff is turning out to be mostly med patient stuff. Sounds like the focus is the big bust Mexican gang grows. Talked to him last year. Helicopters used to buzz my backyard every fall, (I'm out in the rural country) but not the last couple years. He has bought into the "pot is bad because it is so much more powerful" idea.

The pot spotter is related to a friend of mine. Not my buddy . I don't know him that well. It sounds like the focus is the forest, but he didn't say that they never look in back yards. Sounds like they look for anything out of the ordinary . Anything that doesn't look like it belongs or isn't natural.
Part of the reason for less overflights in Northern California and Southern Oregon is about funding. Money. Revenue.
You'll see less and less of these cowboys up in the air until tax revenues return to a level that can sustain this type of stupidity. That's probably several years away.

In Portland (and maybe all of Multnomah County), when you call the police to report a stolen car they ask for your address so that they'll know where to mail the form you'll need to complete for their files. Not that they're going to actually look for your auto - let's get real here. But in case they stumble on it because it's involved in another crime, they'll know where to send you info on where to retrieve the remains of your car. They've very caring and helpful - seriously!
Try and really piss them off by calling in a so-called 'fender-bender' auto accident where no one is injured. Hopefully the caller doesn't have any outstanding warrants. Or actually expects the Portland Police to pretend to be interested or care.
"Hey - we get reports of stolen cars every hour. We'll do the best that we can!" which basically translates into "I'm off in 2 hours. I'll let you know if I hear anything!"
RE: the 'huge grows' by the 'Mexican Mafia' or worse, the 'Mexican Cartels' - if the photos of the 'major busts' involving these clandestine growers of myth (probably from reading and believing the stuff written by Senor Jorge Cervantes), American growers have absolutely nothing to worry about. The plants that I've seen on the media are beyond pitiful. It's like someone's very first hydroponic grow listining to 'the guy' down at the 'indoor garden center'
There may very well be some 'major grows' by people who really know what they're doing associated with these Men of Myth but so far the grows busted in Oregon & Washington were nothing to get too excited about.

Moving here from southern california, i know that most of the mexican cartel grows are done IN MEXICO! they use the underground tunnels to get shit through the border. YES, just like in weeds. Last summer, they found one of these tunnels and the san diego county lead sheriff was all over the news because he was sooo proud of his find and what he had stopped. WEEEELL, he turned up dead a week later. Mexican cartels GROW IN MEXICO! its way safer for them. The people who get busted up here, are just idiots!

Illegal immigrants were connected to a big outdoor bust around here a couple years ago . Maybe that part about them being Mexican gang people was just a scare to get more money to fight evil organized crime invading our forests. They should concentrate on eradicating poison oak , its the most evil thing in the forest here!
